Winton House is run by The Abbeyfield (Maidenhead) Society Ltd and is a registered charity. It has 34 single bedrooms, all with en-suite facilities, televisions, telephone points, a care-call bell system and profiling beds for maximum comfort. Residents also have access to beautiful communal lounges, dining rooms – where all chef-made, nutritionally-balanced meals are served – as well as a beautiful, secure landscaped garden with outdoor seating to be enjoyed.

They provide regular entertainment for Residents, including reminiscence therapy, musical, movement, flower-arranging, and art & crafts activities. Staff also arrange regular day-trips out for residents who wish and are able to attend these. Previous trips have included meeting the animals at Odds Farm Park and boat trips, which are great days out. In the warmer summer months, they utilise their lovely garden by organising a Summer Fair event for Residents and the wider local community, which is always very well attended and enjoyed by all.

There is substantial evidence to show that a combination of physiotherapy and exercise can reduce the risk of falls amongst older adults. Physiotherapy can help improve balance, strength and confidence amongst older adults and can help with both seated and standing posture. It can also help to improve fitness levels, as well as muscular strength and endurance, which can lead to improved daily function and independence. Physiotherapy can help reduce your joint pain and recover faster from injuries and surgery, such as hip or knee replacements. This service is provided free of charge to Residents and has proved to be very successful in reducing the number of falls and improving Residents' mobility, confidence and comfort.

I consider the care I received was excellent. There were some other details which could be improved, but as they were acceptable I have not reduced the star rating.
I had all meals in my room and found the food to be excellent but the hot drinks were generally only lukewarm.
My room did not have
a shower and the available shower for general use was not easy for me to use.

I am really pleased that we chose this care home for my uncle. He settled in very quickly due to the caring staff and homely atmosphere. I am confident that he receives excellent care and all his needs are met.
He particularly enjoys his relationships with the staff who are so friendly and caring.

My uncle really didn’t feel happy about going to Winton House on a permanent basis. He went for some respite care after a couple of spells in hospital which improved things but I was concerned that his health, weight and overall well-being declined when he went back to his home. He finally moved in
during the autumn of 2022 and hasn’t looked back. He is now back to his healthy self, loves the food and enjoys the day-to-day banter with the staff. Despite being in chronic pain from arthritis and unable to do a lot for himself he is happy. He has nothing but good things to say about the home and staff and has a great relationship with everyone. It took a while for me to adjust (after a lot of years) to others caring for him but these staff are fabulous and have made it easy to trust them. He wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. Thank you.

My father has been at Winton House for a year. The staff are kind and caring and take the time to chat with him. The communal areas and his room are always clean and tidy. I know that he enjoys the food and there are plenty of activities to get involved in. There is a maintained garden and seating area
which the residents can use and when the weather is good and he is well enough, he enjoys walking around the garden. The staff have been very helpful in taking him to medical appointments when needed and recently took the time to go to the local hospital to discuss his discharge and how they could best support him. Both he and I have been very happy with the care and support he has received.

My mum has been at Winton House a year now and is very well cared for - she is not easy and has dementia which is only getting worse so has been very difficult for me particularly with my mum objecting to everything. The management and staff at Winton House have been very good in helping me through
a difficult period and I feel my mum is now coming to terms this is her home and she is being very well looked after - they try and get her to join in and go on excursions which is very good for her as at home she had no company whatsoever and was not capable of caring for herself - to add to that I live 150 miles away so a great worry off my mind knowing she is safe.

My mother has been at Winton House for more than three years and has always felt safe and happy there. In the last few months, she has become dependent on her carers to help her dress and move around. Everything possible has been done to help her get used to no longer being independent and senior carers
are helping me too to come to terms with these changes. They are always kind and happy to spend time talking to me and I can see that my mother is being well cared for.

My father was a resident for 8 weeks whilst recovering from a broken foot During this time he was treated so well and without a doubt at his happiest and most relaxed.
Towards the end of his stay, he decided he would like to become a resident, however, a dementia diagnosis meant this was not possible.

We visited several care homes for my father and while all were good, Winton House had a personal homely feel that the others lacked. We were very impressed and it really dispelled many preconceptions we had before making this big decision with dad.
All the staff we have met and talked to are excellent,
from care roles to catering they are all friendly, patient, caring and great at what they do. Dad is well looked after and often remarks on how nice the staff are.
In addition to the comfortable, newly decorated rooms are well-furnished lounges and smaller spaces and plenty of activities to join in if you wish to. The kitchen is just being refurbished and all other areas look recently decorated so the general upkeep is clearly very good. We are very happy to have found Winton House as a home from home for dad.

After having visited a family friend over the course of a few years, I knew Winton House was the right care home for Dad. The staff, from the manager to the catering staff, are caring and treat the residents in a friendly and respectful manner. I visited Dad on his second day and he was having lunch
along with two staff members who were chatting to him and making him feel at home, at what must have been a daunting time for a 95 year old. The residents' rooms are comfortable and the communal rooms are modern, comfortable and well thought out. Every day there are activities where the residents can get together or not as they wish, and I can see how much the entertainment staff genuinely enjoy this too. I would have no hesitation in recommending Winton House to anyone.

My father lived at Winton House for the last three years and the care he received there was exemplary. The home has a very stable staff pool who get to know the residents and engage with them fully. There are activities organised every day and the whole atmosphere is one of positivity and fun. The food
(very important) is excellent. I'm very happy that my father (who sadly died this morning) spent his last years there.

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.303)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.303) out of 10 for Winton House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.4 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.870 for Winton House is calculated as follows: ( (61 Excellents x 5) + (7 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 69 Ratings = 4.87
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.433 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Winton House is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 36 registered maximum number of service users is 7.2. 6 Positive Reviews ÷ 7.2 = 0.833
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I started my career in general building and plastering after leaving school. In my early 20s, I transitioned to managing chain pubs/restaurants. Motivated by my parents’ battle with cancer, I decided to change my career path to make a meaningful difference. After my father passed away, I took a blind leap into social care in 2009, starting as a support worker for adults with complex learning difficulties.

Since then, I have been keen to progress and experience all areas of social care. I have managed five care homes before joining Abbeyfield Maidenhead, specialising in learning disabilities, dementia, and residential nursing. I have also worked for the local authority (Surrey), where I was made redundant after home closures. Subsequently, I have worked for large private providers of residential and luxury care.

At home, I dedicate my time to my family, including my two young children. My commitment to family is as strong as my dedication to my work.

I really enjoy my job, and I am confident my skills and past experience will enhance Winton House
