Staff at this home are brilliant, always providing excellent care, understanding the needs of mum, support our family and treating my mum with the utmost dignity. The rooms are always clean, food and drinks provided are of excellent quality, and activities are always arranged. In terms of value for
money, I do think over £7,000 per month is extortionate but do realise that other care homes charge the same and do not provide such good facilities, staff, activities as Beechlands do.

My husband has been a resident at Beechlands for over 3 years. Apart from the gardens being destroyed, very distressing for residents. His care could not have been better. All the staff, management treat him with great affection. Instead of deteriorating because of care received he has improved in so
many ways. We are both made to feel like one of the family which makes life at a difficult time much easier. Room only given satisfactory because of old carpet.

My mother was resident from August 2014 until her death in January 2018 at the age of 97. The care provided has always been excellent. She was always comfortable and clean. She had a choice of food throughout the day which was freshly prepared on the premises by staff who took a pride in what was being
offered. She was actively encouraged to spend her daytimes in the communal areas and to participate in activities. The premises are of a traditional construction and have the appearance of a real home environment with bedrooms located off of communal areas which include basic kitchen facilities. The entire premises have always been well furnished, clean and fresh smelling with ornaments and flowers to create a homely atmosphere. There are proper arrangements in place for laundry, bathing, hairdressing and attendances by GPs, district nurses and chiropodists. The staff make real efforts to celebrate birthdays and national events in ways that engage the residents appropriately.

My mother lived here for just over a year, she had advanced Alzheimer's dementia and could no longer walk or talk.
Mum always loved her music so the staff made sure her headphones were charged for the next day.
The staff always smiled and made sure she always had a drink with a straw on her table,
we made jokes that the straws should be longer to fit into a jug.
Mum's room was a shared room with a wonderful lady over 100 years young as the home was fully occupied at the time.
The room was large and bright with a large bay window looking out to the garden which was on the ground floor just a few foot steps to the front parlour which was so homely. It was oldish, not posh but everyone there was happy due to the comfort, plenty of room and plenty to eat and drink.
The garden of the home is large with a couple of fish ponds, we enjoyed our time there and the garden fetes they put on.
Some of the staff have worked at the home for many years and are truly dedicated to caring for others.

Current Review Score: 8.4 (8.357)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.4 (8.357) out of 10 for Beechlands is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 2 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.5 out of 5 from 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.875 for Beechlands is calculated as follows: ( (22 Excellents x 5) + (1 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 24 Ratings = 4.875

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.482 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Beechlands is based on 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 = 3.125

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 28 registered maximum number of service users is 5.6. 2 Positive Reviews ÷ 5.6 = 0.357

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
