The Oaks specialises in residential care. Rooms at The Oaks are spacious, light and airy with en suite toilet facilities.

The Oaks offers a choice of communal areas with three light and airy sitting rooms and a spacious dining room. The communal areas feature a quiet lounge, a cosy sun room and a large communal tv/activities lounge, where residents can enjoy the company of fellow residents, visiting friends and family.

The garden has a large patio area and raised garden beds and a large lawn area. They have a BBQ facility that is used for garden events.

All food is cooked on site and uses fresh local produce to ensure the nutritional needs of each resident are met. The cooks prepare delicious meals and snacks for residents to enjoy in the social dining area or in the comfort of their own room. Food menus are regularly reviewed to suit preference and diet of the residents. The Oaks enjoy a tea party and cake for everyone's birthdays. On a Wednesday they offer 'residents choice' where the residents can choose any meal they like. The Oaks also welcome friends and family to join them for meals.

The dedicated care team at The Oaks understand that every resident is different. Care planning is personalised and centred on each individual resident's needs. The relaxed and informal environment of The Oaks makes the perfect home from home for residents, families and friends alike.

Respite care packages are also available at The Oaks for people who need everyday care and support when carers need a respite break, or for people who need extra care and support during a recuperation period after an illness or hospital discharge.

The home is fully accessible, with a lift for those with mobility issues, and nurse call systems throughout every room in the home providing a round the clock service.

I have seen my friend grow in confidence and become totally immersed in what is a family community. This is down to the amazing staff who are beyond caring. There seems to be so much thought given to a full programme of activities. The kitchen staff provide such a varied menu and as in all other areas,
nothing seems too much trouble. I am in total admiration of all the staff - such a tough job.
Reply from Stephen Clarke, Provider at The Oaks Care HomeThank you for such a thoughtful review. It has been a joy for us to watch your friend grow in confidence and become such an integral part of our family community here at The Oaks. We truly believe that life shouldn't 'stop' when moving into care; it's about new beginnings and engagement. I'll be sure to pass your praise on to our activities and kitchen teams-they will be delighted to know visitors as well as residents are noticing their hard work.

The Oaks residential home staff work really hard in keeping the home lovely and look after the residents so well. They can't do enough for the residents and families. Thank you for looking after our mum and supporting us in the transition of mum going into residential care, which is a very sad and difficult
time. I knew the moment I walked into The Oaks, it was perfect.
Reply from Stephen Clarke, Provider at The Oaks Care HomeThank you so much for your heart-warming review. We truly understand that the transition into residential care can be a very sad and difficult time for families, and we feel privileged that you trusted The Oaks to support you through it. It's wonderful to hear that you felt that 'perfect' connection from your very first visit. We will be sure to share your gratitude with the whole team-they work so hard to ensure our residents and their families feel held and supported.

Overall a good experience the staff are very good with my mother and she loves the entertainment. The only negatives is her clothes get mixed up with other residents and she doesn't like the majority of the meals but doesn't want to ask for something else in case it causes trouble.
Reply from Stephen Clarke, Provider at The Oaks Care HomeIt's wonderful to hear your mother loves the staff and activities, but it saddens us to hear she doesn't feel comfortable asking for different meal options. At The Oaks, we strive to be a true 'home,' and that means having food you love!
We will have a gentle chat with her to reassure her that she is never 'causing trouble' by making a request. Regarding the laundry, we are looking into this immediately to ensure her items stay in her room. Thank you for helping us look after her better.

Home very warm, staff, as always very polite. My dads room was very clean and tidy. The manager saw my dad during my visit and was very attentive to him and listened when he spoke to her.

Everything has always been run very smoothly as far as I have been able to see over the past difficult months with the Covid restrictions in place. I am kept up to date with everything by email and telephone. All staff have always been friendly and attentive. My mother appears to be very happy at The
Oaks and is very well cared for. The new visiting procedures with all the restrictions are very well organised.
Reply from Alex Woodfine, Deputy Manager at The Oaks Care HomeThank you for your kind words, Donna. We are pleased you are happy with your mum's care and look forward to being able to return to some normality.

My father has been at The Oaks since January 2020. With their warm welcome, he settled in very quickly. The care has been exceptional. The staff are very friendly and patient. He says he is well looked after and enjoys the company. He was particularly touched by a birthday tea which was arranged for
his 89th birthday.
The home have been extremely careful to reduce the risk of Covid. Though periods of shut down have meant I have been unable to visit at times, we have been kept up to date. Regular zoom meetings with the Managing Director and home managers have kept us informed with current information and opportunity to ask questions. Arrangements were made for garden visits with access to a garden room when the risk was lower. This was very much appreciated.
The catering is excellent and my father always says the food is very good.
I am reassured that my father is in good hands.

October has been another busy, worrying and stressful time for all the staff at The Oaks; as if they haven't done enough this year. As ever, they do everything they can to keep the residents safe, something they have been hugely successful at this year. Without their commitment - not taking foreign
holidays, complying with all the regulations in the wider community as well as the home, laundering their uniforms at the end of every shift, and putting their residents front and centre of all they do. Their reward - and heaven knows they deserve one - is that there have been no cases of infection amongst the residents nor, as of the most recent update, amongst the staff. And despite how tired and stressed they all must be, they keep a fine sense of humour and are great morale booster. And of course, they have to do all the things they would normally do for the residents (and doubtless their own families) as well. These are heroines and I thank them most warmly.
Reply from Alex Woodfine, Deputy Manager at The Oaks Care HomeThank you so much for taking the time to give us a review, we really appreciate it. Your words are so kind, I will be sure to pass them onto the staff. We look forward to being able to welcome you all back as soon as we can.

The Oaks was recommended to me when looking for respite care for my Aunt. Circumstances changed and permanent care was later required - my Aunt cannot speak highly enough of the staff, especially under the current difficult climate. I have also found the staff to be helpful and for the most time, kind.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.2 (9.192) out of 10 for The Oaks Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.542 for The Oaks Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (55 Excellents x 5) + (38 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 96 Ratings = 4.542
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.65 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Oaks Care Home is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.65
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 33 registered maximum number of service users is 6.6, which has been reached with 8 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
