All the staff seem to really care for my mum as a person. She is very happy and settled which means as a family we don't have to worry about her wellbeing. The atmosphere is very friendly and everyone treats mum with respect.

Over the past several years three members of my family have stayed at Shangri-la. On each occasion, the care provided has been very good and appropriate for their needs. This was particularly evident during the Covid crisis when safety was paramount. I would have no hesitation in placing any further members of my family in their care.

As a whole, excellent. My first time in respite care and there was in-depth preparation with the managers which set my mind at rest. The care was amazing. I was treated like family and nothing was too much trouble. The food was varied and of high quality. All the staff were caring and had time for me. Any decisions were made with my agreement. Activities were lively and welcomed. The building was very well maintained. Cannot thank the staff enough. Very positive experience and attention to details excellent. I enjoyed every minute of my stay. Room and facilities excellent shows Shangri-La is run for the residents not for profit.

My mother has been a resident since April 2015. The staff are great, very friendly and caring and Mum is very fond of them. It is a very homely place with varied activities going on most days. We are always made very welcome when we visit and when we leave. We know Mum is in safe hands.

My Dad always looks clean and tidy and well fed and looked after. When I visit there are always friendly healthy staff on hand when needed. The carers are very supportive towards Dad and me. I feel that he is very safe at Shangri-la. The staff all take a personal interest in their changes. I am always kept up to date with Dads welfare even though I live in Nottingham. Any concerns are dealt with quickly and efficiently.

Overall Experience
I would like to say a big thank you on behalf of myself and brother and sister for the excellent care given to our mother during her five years and a bit of residence at Shangri La. We were always treated with respect and kindness throughout her stay as she was and in her last days before she passed away the personal touches she and ourselves received were exemplary. We could not have wished for a better home for her in her twilight years.

Thank you so much.

Reply from Paula Key, Manager at Shangri-la

Chloe Fleet
Chloe FleetJob Title:Admin Assistant/Activities CoordinatorJoined: 2023

I was employed 2 months ago by the home as an Admin Assistant to the Manager, Paula Key. In the short space of time, I have been here, I have also taken on the role of Activities Coordinator so that while I am in the home, I can get to know our residents on a personal level and interact with them on a daily basis.

I have loved getting to know the people I will be working alongside in the home, and I enjoy seeing the residents engage in fun and games daily.

Bethany Blank
Bethany BlankJob Title:Care AssistantJoined: 2021

I’ve been a care assistant at Shangri-La for almost 3 years. My day-to-day role involves spending time with the residents getting to know and love their personalities, and watching them thrive with the care and assistance we provide for them.

Cheryl Ayres
Cheryl AyresJob Title:Deputy ManagerJoined: 2014
I have been a part of the team for 9 years now and have had the opportunity to grow within the home and achieve academically completing an N.V.Q level 2 and 3 in health and social care as well as a level 5 in leadership and management. I have been able to complete this whilst continuing with a job I have a great passion for.

The residents we care for are always at the forefront of the work we do.

The nature of the work we do is to promote independence and provide comfort and care in a person-centred manner.

Along with this we like to ensure that families are supported as making decisions to place their loved ones into a care home and entrusting others to support them is never an easy choice to make.
