The Wedge is a family run residential care home, originally purchased by a married couple in 1984. At the time of purchase, the property was registered for 5 residents. Over the years the home has been extensively extended and is now registered for 21 residents with 18 of the bedrooms having en-suite facilities.

The home is managed by the couple's daughter, a qualified nurse, who took over the running over 13 years ago.
They have an excellent team of staff and are delighted that they have a low turnover of their team, which of course provides continuity of care for their residents.
At the Wedge, they do not employ agency staff.

They are conscious that this their resident's home and visitors are always welcome as they bring such pleasure to residents. They are a pet-friendly home with the deputy manager's dog Buddy given a relatively free roam of the house and has become a friend and comfort to many residents.

They do not run a regimented regime as each day will be different depending on the needs of the residents. However, whatever is going on they always make sure there is time for a chat and a drink. Their aim is for residents to feel well-loved and cared for in a home from home environment.

They have an activity co-ordinator in the home four afternoons a week to help residents with a complete range of entertainment and activities which can be as a group or on a one-to-one basis.

My mother was lucky enough to secure a place at The Wedge at the end of February. The care and support she has been given has been first class as she has dementia and osteoarthritis. We have been able to visit whenever we wish and have had no concerns at all regarding her safety and well-being. The
manager and her staff are the most caring people and their communication with us has been excellent.

My mum at 94 received the highest care we could expect. All staff were caring and extremely supportive to my mum and my family. Excellent experienced staff who had empathy for mum at all times . I cannot thank the wedge staff for the care understanding love they showed mum. A 10 out of 10 home for sure.

I cannot express my gratitude and thanks for all the carers at this home. Not only did they care for my mum but also all her family, we felt it was like caring at home. The home was very relaxed and couldn't do enough for my mum or her family. Her room was familiar to her as her pictures and personal
belonging were allowed. I cannot express my thanks. 10/10.

My mum has been in The Wedge for one year and throughout the year the staff have been wonderful. The care they provide is exceptional, her room is perfect leading onto a lovely garden with flowers and garden chairs which my mum enjoys tremendously. The food is excellent, the cleanliness first class,
entertainment in the afternoon's brilliant, cannot fault The Wedge, everything excellent.

My mum was a resident at The Wedge following recommendations from several friends who had family members there. The day we took my mum in we were welcomed with open arms' and smiles. Every single member of staff were friendly and kind. As soon as I walked into the home I knew it was the right place
for my mum. The manager welcomed not only ,my mum but every single one of my family' ,children, grandchildren, great grandchildren all visited . The food was excellent, the room my mum had was lovely. It looked out onto a garden which gave my mum great comfort. Sadly my mum passed away after a short stay but I couldn't thank the staff enough for their care and support during this time. Excellent , caring, empathetic, professional and fun are the words I would use to describe The Wedge..10/10

Excellent, family-owned and managed care home. Giving a score of 10/10 doesn't rate them highly enough. At every step of the way, the staff went the extra mile to help and provide care and comfort. Day and night they were on hand to look after my aunt. Thanks to their support we were able to get my
aunt out of hospital and back into the care home where she felt safe and looked after. If you are looking for a small, intimate care home, you'll not find better than The Wedge.

Mum is receiving exemplary care, not just on a practical level but also on an emotional level. There are always cuddles and kind words of reassurance when needed, that has also been extended to me when I have needed it. Mum is so happy, I couldn't ask for more.

The Wedge was chosen for my father on the strength of its reputation as a small, family-run establishment with a personal feel to it. I can say that it more than lived up to the reputation with, most notably, staff who were all very caring, always were cheerful and treated my father with the utmost
dignity. I always felt he was in safe hands. A fantastic care home.

My mother, aged 103 has been at The Wedge since 2014. I believe that the care she receives has been excellent, despite her expectations that everyone there is to help her at a moment's notice. My mother-in-law was also a resident at The Wedge until she died in 2015. She received excellent care when
she was there.

My godmother had a psychotic episode, which is really out of character; the manager and all the staff were excellent, caring and kind and kept me fully informed at every stage. It was really hard for all staff concerned, but they have also been so lovely and caring about the whole episode.

A very friendly care home which offers a real home from home environment for all the residents. Each and every member of staff genuinely care for the resident's comfort and wellbeing and are fantastic at providing regular feedback to the residents loved ones. I couldn't imagine a nicer environment for
someone to spend their last years.

The Wedge cared for my mother for 16 months, October 2015 - January 2017. I was struck by the sensitivity, warmth, commitment and hard work. I could not fault their care and remain deeply grateful. I strongly recommend this wonderful care home. My mother died peacefully in bed in this care home with
every part of her needs attended too.

The Wedge is an exceptional care home: exceptional in the standard of care provided by the staff and in the loving attitude of all the staff. They genuinely loved my mother, were interested in her as a person, sought to understand her, build a real relationship with her and have fun with her. Consequently,
she felt valued and worthwhile - very important at this stage of her life. She died in the home in a beautiful atmosphere of love and peace.

My mother is very happy at The Wedge and my sister and I have nothing but praise for it. The management and staff are all delightful, responsive and caring and I feel completely confident that she is being well cared for. There are also activities during the week which she attends and which she finds
really enjoyable.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.586)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.586) out of 10 for The Wedge Residential Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.986 for The Wedge Residential Home is calculated as follows: ( (70 Excellents x 5) + (1 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 71 Ratings = 4.986
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.6 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Wedge Residential Home is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 21 registered maximum number of service users is 4.2, which has been reached with 6 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
