Braemar Care Home is a privately owned residential care home situated in the heart of Southsea. Established in 1989, the home is known for delivering high-quality care and support to older individuals, including those living with dementia or requiring respite care.

Set within a characterful, converted period property, Braemar accommodates up to 35 residents in well-appointed single and shared rooms, most with en-suite facilities. Residents are encouraged to personalise their rooms with familiar items to promote comfort and a sense of home.

The home features four lounges, including a conservatory, and two dining rooms, providing inviting spaces for relaxation, social engagement, and mealtimes. A passenger lift and stairlifts ensure easy access across all three floors.

Care is tailored to individual needs, with a focus on promoting independence while offering support with daily living and specialist needs such as Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s. The home is registered with the Care Quality Commission and was rated 'Good' in all areas in the latest inspection (May 2021).

Visitors asked to sign in upon arrival. If visiting outside of office hours, ringing the doorbell will alert staff to assist you.


    Children and well-behaved dogs welcome, reflecting the home's inclusive and family-friendly atmosphere. Visitors can also join residents for mealtimes by arranging in advance - please email the manager. For those visiting once a week or less, no charge for meals. Additionally, private dining can be arranged for special occasions.

My father in law has been a resident at the braemar for a year now and we could not be happier with his placement and his on going care. The carers are friendly and supportive always greeting our visits with a smile and conversations. Georgia the manager goes above and beyond to accommodate the family
and any requests and she is truly lovely and approachable. More importantly my father in law is so settled happy and appreciative of everything he has where he is. He really has found his forever home

We have been using Braemar Care Home since January 2025 for my 101 year old father and are very impressed with the level of care and personal attention he is receiving there. The facilities are good, safety is taken very seriously and all the staff are very professional, attentive, engaging and responsive
to my father's many needs. Most importantly, he is treated with patience, dignity and respect - clearly caring is their calling.
In addition, the management at Braemar is brilliant at running the home yet approachable and has met any requests we have made during this time swiftly and efficiently.
Based on our experience, we thoroughly recommend Braemar Care Home to other families who find themselves in need of a placement for a loved one.

My brother has been living in Braemar for the last 12 months. He was very ill when he moved there from hospital, and he has been nurtured and cared for by the kind and considerate staff. They have spent time encouraging and supporting him to be as independent as possible, and nothing seemed too much
trouble for any of the staff. They insured he had a private room and space to be himself.
He always looked clean and well presented whenever I saw him. Activities were arranged, which he thoroughly enjoyed. His room was always clean, and in all the times I visited the home it always smelled fresh.
He left recently to start a new life, and already has told me he misses everybody at Braemar. They are all amazing, and we as a family are eternally grateful for everything you did, we will never forget the kindness you showed to our loved one.

"My mum has been living at Braemar home and is in her 2nd year as a resident now , we honestly couldn't be happier with the care she receives.
She has memory loss, which can be challenging, but the staff are endlessly patient, kind and understanding - not just with Mum, but with us as a family too.
They always keep us updated on what she's been up to, which gives us such peace of mind.
Mum has the freedom to walk around and sit wherever she feels comfortable, and she especially loves spending time in the beautiful conservatory.
Her room is bright, cosy and welcoming, and she feels very much at home there.
Bath time can sometimes be tricky to get mum to bath but the carers always manage it with sensitivity and a gentle, reassuring approach.
We're also so grateful for Georgia, the manager, who is always there for us - whether by phone, email or in person. She's so lovely and caring, and nothing is ever too much trouble.
All the staff are cheerful , caring and welcoming .

My mum has been in Braemar for several months now and is so happy there. I cannot stress how relieved I feel to have found a home that she genuinely loves and a home where she is safe.
Mum enjoys her room, the food, the entertainment but most of all she adores the carers. I am always struck by how
kind, caring and fun the staff are despite working in what must be very stressful jobs. I can honestly wholeheartedly recommend Braemar as a lovely home.

When we had to find respite care for my brother at extremely short notice, Braemar pulled out all the stops to accommodate him the same day, for which we are eternally grateful. The staff, led by Georgia and Hannnah, are extremely professional, personable and really care about the residents' well being.
They have taken the time to understand my brother's needs and nothing is too much trouble. The chef introduced herself at our first meeting to ascertain any allergies, likes and dislikes, and, having a healthy appetite, the food has been one of my brother's daily highlights. Had it not been for the fact that I wished to find a permanent home for him closer to me, and had the average age of the other residents been a little closer to that of my brother (he's only 65), I would have had no hesitation in making Braemar his forever home.

Braemar is a comfortable and caring home. My brother is well looked after, his room is lovely and clean a safe environment. The summer months were lovely at Braemar with residents being able to access the garden. My mum loved being able to sit outside in the sunshine. Staff were always on hand with plenty of cold drinks and ice creams for the residents. Thank you to you all for making all the family welcome when we come
to visit mum at anytime.

I have visited my friend & neighbour on several occasions since she moved into Braemar.
She is very happy there - a home from home she calls it.
Staff are exceptional - very caring, friendly nothing seems too much trouble.
The shared areas are clean, tidy & very well maintained. I'm always offered
tea/coffee when I visit. Exceptional place, can't fault it.
Can't comment on Food & Drink, Activities and Value for Money as no experience of these areas.
