Visiting

  • Mon Choisy Care Home operates an open visiting policy and warmly welcomes family, friends, and visitors throughout the day. There is no need to book in advance, and residents are free to receive their visitors whenever they wish. Visitors are simply asked to avoid mealtimes where possible, so that residents can enjoy their meals unhurried, and to sign in and out at the entrance for fire safety and security. The home has been designed with comfortable, welcoming spaces for time together. Visitors can spend time with their loved one privately in their own bedroom, relax together in one of the communal lounges, or, in good weather, enjoy the home's mature gardens. A quieter sitting room is available for families who would like more privacy, including during end-of-life care, when relatives are welcome to stay with their loved one for as long as they need. Children are welcome, and the team finds that visits across the generations bring real joy to residents. Well-behaved pets may also visit, following a brief word with the home beforehand to make sure the visit suits everyone. Tea, coffee, and light refreshments are offered to visitors throughout the day, and family members are welcome to join their loved one for a meal by prior arrangement with the kitchen. The home is easy to reach from central Oxford by car or public transport, with free on-site parking available directly outside.

Parking

  • Mon Choisy Care Home offers free on-site parking directly outside the home, with space for several vehicles. Visitors are welcome to park whenever they come, and there is no need to reserve a space in advance. The parking area sits on level ground, just a short, step-free walk from the main entrance, so visitors with reduced mobility, wheelchairs, or pushchairs can reach the home with ease. When the home is busier — during family gatherings or special occasions, for example — additional on-street parking is available nearby on Kennington Road. Visitors are kindly asked to park considerately and to keep the area immediately in front of the entrance clear at all times, so that emergency vehicles can reach the home without delay.

Mon Choisy Care Home have been brilliant! They take great care of my father, they make sure he's looked after, fed and most importantly make him feel part of the family. He used to love music so they make sure there's plenty of music and activities to help keep him happy. Thank you to all of the staff! It's a wonderful job you do while at times I'm sure is difficult! They always have a smile and seem to really care for the residents.

My mother has been at Mon Choisy for almost three years. I am very happy that she is there as I feel she is well looked after and safe. The staff always looks after her even when she has a difficult period. I am notified of her state of health and when I communicate with them by email or phone they come back promptly trying to find solutions. The place is clean and spacious. I am also very happy that when I cannot visit I can talk and see my mother over WhatApp. I am particularly impressed with the staff who are friendly and welcoming.

My mother-in-law is a resident of Mon Choisy Care Home for almost a year now. At first, it was really hard for us and her as well to be separated, but due to our work and her health issues, it was the best decision we could make. The staff is fully qualified and more than happy to help whenever the residents needs it. My mother-in-law is really happy as she is treated very well, she says she's feeling like she's on holiday all the time and she is always busy with all the activities they are doing. Food is also really tasty and as a bonus we are always updated on my mother-in-law's situation. I would definitely recommend it!

Review from Alison C (Wife of Resident) published on 21 December 2020 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
My husband has been a resident at Mon Choisy for three and a half years, so my review relates to all of this period. Until Covid-19 stopped relatives visiting, I was at Mon Choisy every week, so I got to know the staff and had a good impression of the atmosphere.
I think the premises of Mon Choisy are a bit crowded for the number of people, on the other hand, every resident has their own room. All the rooms seem freshly and pleasantly decorated (this was done in the last year or so). At least residents can't feel isolated or lonely because there is always company, which seems important. The staff arrange activities such as painting or games.
The meals are very good and freshly cooked. The food is traditional, with choices every day, and I know my husband enjoys it.

The staff are well-qualified, professional and experienced in understanding dementia and how it affects people's behaviour. Above all, they are kind and caring towards residents. I know my husband is very well looked after.

My father stayed at Mon Choisy Care Home for respite care and I cannot praise the staff highly enough. They were caring, kind, patient and friendly. They did everything they could to welcome him and ensure he settled in. They were also very thoughtful to us as a family and did make things for us as easy as possible. We experienced them treating other residents with such dignity and warmth (although they were unaware that we were within earshot).

Mon Choisy, still above and beyond the meaning of the words “Care” and “Home”

I live in the U.S. My sister visits my brother twice weekly. I ‘phone and email. My daughter ‘phones and emails. I was in U.K. last year, and finally met Mon Choisy exceptional Manager and excellent staff when I visited daily.

I use Skype for family. Staff in Mon Choisy use a laptop and took it into brother to Skype. My brother was delighted seeing me, having the 3 of us in the room. The U.K. is 8 hours ahead of my time, so I was up from 2am onwards, chatting. A staff member joined us at one point. It was good to catch up with her.

Mon Choisy, without being asked, downloaded Skype, so I can Skype any day at more convenient times for me; for example 7am my time which is 3pm their time. Staff were trained in its use. I ‘phone to say I’m going to Skype which gives them time to bring my brother to the computer.

Outstanding loving care for residents, and their families. It really is my brother's home now.

I wanted to praise the staff and facilities at this care home, nothing is too much trouble. My mother is not the easiest of persons to get on with, but she says all the people and staff are kind and polite to her. There is always a friendly smile from all the staff whenever I visit and I can see that they chat and do many activities with the residents. My mum's room is very clean and well kept and she enjoys living in the home. I would totally recommend this care home.

I visited my friend at Mon Choisy care home last week and was very impressed with the level of care given to her. The care home staff were very welcoming and attentive. I have been to a number of care homes and this one is very different. The staff are wonderful! My friend has very advanced dementia and I have seen a significant change and improvement in her character since moving to Mon Choisy. The staff really know what is going on and understand how to respond to her. Wonderful home.
