For me, care is both a commitment and a privilege that calls for empathy, compassion, and patience in equal measure. Care is about making a positive difference, whether through a reassuring smile, comforting words in moments of sadness, empowering residents to make choices, or simply recognising and honouring each person for who they are.
Often, it is the smallest gestures that hold the greatest meaning, such as listening to a story as though it is being told for the first time, showing an interest in someone’s past, offering reassurance and support in difficult moments, encouraging confidence and independence, or creating opportunities for meaningful activity that brightens someone’s day. These everyday acts of kindness and compassion are at the heart of everything I do, and I feel privileged to be entrusted with such an important role. My aim is to always ensure that residents feel happy, respected, and truly at home.
In recognising the weight of the decision that families face when choosing a home for a loved one, including the enormity of the responsibility, I hope to provide families with reassurance and peace of mind, knowing that their loved ones are safe, treated with dignity and supported to live life to the fullest.
Care is more than just a job for me; it’s a true calling. I am deeply committed to making a real difference in people’s lives by creating a safe, welcoming environment where they truly feel at home. This calling gives meaning and purpose to my work every single day. I am naturally drawn to this career because it allows me to serve others with genuine kindness and understanding. Helping people in this way brings fulfilment, knowing I provide support, comfort, and compassion to those who need it most. Care is not simply work—it’s a way to make a positive impact.

Anneliese has been involved in the care industry for around twenty years and joined St Nectans in August 2011 having always loved this kind of environment. In her spare time, Anneliese is a creative person and he enjoys photography, dancing, singing and painting.
