Overall Experience
Mum lived in Gwendoline House for the final year of her life. We are so grateful to Kalpana and her team for providing a home that cared for her and treated her kindly and with respect. The team worked very hard to ensure that Mum was safe and comfortable and that all her needs were met, as well as being welcoming to family and visitors. Their interactions with other care providers such as doctors and district nurses was effective, timely and professional.
The team are positive, cheerful and friendly. They hold periodic meetings for residents and those who look after their interests like families or close friends and encourage open feedback.
They also have a great activities coordinator who provides enrichment for residents
At the end of Mums life the team really stepped up to provide the best possible care for her, and the dedication of both Kalpana and Ellie and their team shone through.

Gwendoline House is a "home" that "cares" in the true sense of both words.

My mum stayed at Gwendoline House for a few months. During her time there she was well cared for. The staff are all really lovely and the manager would regularly provide updates and make adjustments to benefit Mum and the staff.

It's a small, residential home but are very keen to make sure everyone is involved and have activity days several times a week and the person that comes in is amazing!

My mother was a resident at Gwendoline House for six months in 2025. The staff at this care home are consistently excellent, and this was evident between my initial visit and my last. I believe they genuinely cared for my mother, and she was sad to leave - as were they when she left. The personal connections were always evident in every visit. The care home isn't new and shiny - it needs investment and a lick of paint - but the superb staff more than compensate. If you're not sure, I recommend visiting the home and meeting the staff in person.

Small cosy home with excellent staff who treated mum with dignity who enjoyed a laugh with her. Good food choices and staff ensured mum had plenty to drink. Call bells answered promptly. Staff also looked after family, offering drinks most times, would recommend people to visit if looking for a place for their family. Not ultra modern but very homely.

My mum was with the home for 16 months, December 2023 to March 2025 when she sadly passed away. During that time I felt her quality of care was excellent. The staff were both attentive , friendly and supportive in caring for my mum. The team had a friendly approach and good liaison with family and medical teams. My mum was in a safe environment, warm, happy, fed, and cared for. I couldn't ask for more. Thank you.

I am very happy here. Very well cared for. Any issues I have had have been dealt with to my satisfaction very quickly. I get on well with all the staff members. They are very kind and anything I need is always provided. The food is excellent and I enjoy every meal, have plenty of choices offered and a good variety. The management always comes round to ask if any problems and are very nice and approachable. It's home from home here.

Employees are always friendly when you walk in. The entire house appears tidy and uncluttered. The meal being prepared smells delicious and I've been there twice around dinnertime. I gave the staff members three stars since my friend has mentioned twice that night shift workers can be irritable and short if she calls the emergency ring for assistance.

The management is excellent, compassionate, and sets a high standard.

Gwendoline House has provided a happy and caring environment for my mum, who sadly suffers from vascular dementia. I cannot speak highly enough about the staff who are all friendly and supportive. It is a tremendous relief to know that she is so well looked after, particularly during the Covid pandemic. I have always received a warm welcome as a visitor and have been kept informed of any change in Mum's health/condition. Gwendoline House has provided a true home for her in the very best sense of the word.

Very happy with the care my grandma received from Gwendoline House, especially one staff member who always went above and beyond for my grandma and it was a real comfort to know she was being attended to like a family member and not just pound signs. I feel residents would benefit from more days out but I understand due to Covid this had to stop, hopefully, it can continue soon. Thank you.

I am pleased that my mother is very happy in Gwendoline House and I am confident she is in safe hands. Gwendoline House always contacts me with any issues that arise and I am able to visit regularly. Due, primarily, to visits from a nurse and on occasion a doctor, her ulcerated leg, which was quite bad when she first went to the home, has all but healed. My mother tells me that she sleeps well and thoroughly enjoys all the meals.

For my aunt, this care home suits her very well. It is quaint and cosy (like her own house was) and the staff are better than good on the whole. Caring, patient, and kind and treat the residents with dignity and amenable. The matron is such a dedicated and kind person who has the residents' needs uppermost in her work every day and we always get informed of any change in resident's health. Put on a lovely day for the Queen's Jubilee for us and residents. A great find.

I found the care for my mother was very good. At all times she was looked after and any problems were dealt with in an effective manner. The staff were kind, polite and attentive. If she required medical attention it was sought as soon as possible. I felt that she was safe and well cared for in a small, homely environment. I would recommend Gwendoline House to anyone seeking care for a relative.

My mother has lived in residential care since the 1st of January 2019. She became unable to safely live alone miles away from me, I did not drive. She has her own room and TV where she is looked after very well by lovely caring people. I sleep better at night now I am assured that my mother is safe and cared for.

We are and have always been incredibly happy with Gwendoline House. My nan is very well taken care of even if she doesn't always want to be anywhere else than her home, but myself and my family are comforted by knowing that she is in the safest of hands and treated like she is one of their own family. Wonderful atmosphere and the staff feel like friends. Five stars.
