Making the decision to move from your own home into residential care is often very hard. The thought of leaving behind friends and family and that of losing ones independence is often a daunting prospect. At Sundial Lodge they have created a residential care home with a unique difference.

Sundial Lodge is one of Torbay’s finest Georgian houses, built in 1802, it has both character and dignity. It is surrounded by an acre of beautiful, well-kept gardens that add charm and grace to the setting.

To help retain your independence, you have your own self-contained apartment with kitchen and bathroom, and have the freedom to come and go as you please. Friends and family can pop in for a cup of tea or even stay overnight, at the same time having 24-hour care on hand should you need it.

They provide freshly prepared meals, cooked in their own kitchens, delivered to your door daily.

Staff are conscious of the fact that people often fear they will simply be left to vegetate watching endless TV in a crowded lounge. At Sundial Lodge they have worked hard to provide a programme of entertainment including musicians, arts and crafts and have even had snakes and spiders to see or hold, if you dare!

In actual fact, the TV in the lounge is rarely on and usually only when they have a film show. They also have regular outings, 3 times a week, in their very own minibus and the town or coast are only a short walk away.

You are probably thinking that this all sounds too good to be true or that it will be an unaffordable option for you – let us assure you that it isn’t. If you are unsure or a little nervous as to whether residential care is right for you or a relative then perhaps an informal discussion or a visit may help to put your mind at rest.

A friendly, welcoming home. Spacious, private accommodation with communal areas and lovely gardens and terraces.
The staff are friendly and welcoming.
The Facebook page has been a great way for families to receive immediate important information about visits.
The Facebook page is also a great
way for families to see the range of activities that are offered to residents.
The suite of rooms are always clean and very well maintained.

My mother moved into Sundial Lodge before Christmas on a temporary basis as she wasn’t very well, and she liked it so much that she stayed and is now a permanent resident. She is incredibly well looked after, and every thought has been given to her health and well-being. It is a beautiful old building
and has been adapted to manage this accordingly. There are stairlifts and appropriate equipment put in place to make sure that all eventualities are covered to keep all the residents safe. I can honestly say that I feel totally reassured that she is well cared for and all her needs are met. The staff are extremely efficient and so very kind. They also have various entertainment throughout the week for the residents to enjoy and keep them stimulated. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Sundial Lodge to anyone.

Sundial Lodge has provided a loving home for both of my grandparents. The huge transition from them moving from their own home to Sundial went so smoothly, and the staff could not have been more accommodating! My nan even said it was like walking into a hotel, and she thoroughly enjoyed having meals
prepared and laundry done after struggling with these tasks for many years. After sadly losing my nan last year, Sundial has been a huge support to my grandad, and this has been much appreciated by our family. Sundial's staff offer care, companionship, support and love, everything you could possibly want for your loved ones.

My grandmother is proud to call Sundial Lodge her home. She has been here for five months now and is truly happy! The food is lovely, the building is beautiful, and the care is quality. Highly recommended.

I feel this home is absolutely the best. My mom does too. She has her own lovely living room, with a separate, small kitchen, separate bedroom and an ensuite shower room. Mom is very happy and comfortable and well looked after. Everyone at the home seems friendly and helpful. The big living room for
everyone is inviting and has great views over the spacious grounds in the front. Plenty of entertainment held in this room and the other residents are very nice and friendly. Plenty of tea and biscuits and freshly cooked food each day. My mom is a fussy eater, but she loves the food. I highly recommend Sundial Lodge. Makes me happy and makes my Mom very happy. She feels safe.

I visited my aunt over a 3 day period. She was very happy. The staff were welcoming. I had lunch with her in her room. This was a good meal. The management were most helpful and happy to spend time with me discussing my aunt's wellbeing. I was shown a different room more suited to her needs which she
has since moved into. Brilliant!

Overall Sundial Lodge provided a high-quality service/environment with friendly, accessible and caring staff. The only significant criticism is that several items of my father's clothing went missing/astray during laundry and were never recovered. This happened, too, with items of crockery and glassware,
with that caveat I would still recommend Sundial Lodge especially for getting the balance of care/support and resident independence just right.

Sundial Lodge puts the "care" and "home" into residential care home. The care and attention lavished on the beautiful building and grounds is evident when you arrive. The apartments are regularly upgraded to provide a true home rather than a small, overcrowded room. When a resident arrives they are
greeted with flowers and goodies in their apartment. But, however nice the surroundings, it is the personal care that is the most important. Our mum received the best of care during her stay at Sundial Lodge from everyone; the owner, manager and all of the competent, kind and helpful staff. And we had peace of mind knowing that she was safe and well looked after. Thank you Sundial.

The home is beautiful, the grounds are stunning, the view is unbeatable and the care provided is outstanding.
The manager and team are the best and will always listen and help. I would not want any family or friends staying anywhere else.
