Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
Having read somewhat disparaging reviews of Gorway House I feel compelled to relate my own personal views on this Care Home; within which my partner's Mother has spent many years, initially for respite care and now as a permanent resident.
The years of respite stays were enough to show us that Gorway
House would be a suitable, safe environment for his elderly mother to be looked after, if and when full time care was required.
He, and members of his family have found the managers and staff to be friendly, efficient and caring in their respective roles; the managers have been especially accommodating to his particular needs and requests for his mother and has never experienced any of the negative comments written in certain reviews, in fact he has only ever found them to be friendly and always available to discuss any questions regarding his mothers care.
The same is equally true of the staff, who have always shown warmth and understanding to his elderly mother.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughtful and heartfelt review. We truly appreciate your kind words and are very grateful for the trust you and your partner's family have placed in us over the years. It's always rewarding to hear that the care and support we strive to provide has had such a positive impact. We understand how important it is to feel confident in the care of a loved one, and it's reassuring to know that our staff - both management and carers - have helped create a safe, respectful, and compassionate environment for your partner's mother.Your recognition of our team's friendliness, professionalism, and attentiveness means a great deal to all of us. We are especially pleased that the transition from respite care to permanent residency was a smooth and reassuring one for your family. With warm regards,The Management TeamGorway House Care Home

The place is run by two sisters, one of whom has given my family nothing but stress and anxiety around visits in the last few months. She refers to relatives as 'being a nightmare' for simply advocating for their loved ones who are elderly and vulnerable.
This sister has made unprofessional comments
to my family about my grandfather being 'difficult', that he should 'play by my rules and he will be ok' and asking my aunt and cousins 'have you got nothing better to do on Saturdays than visit your Grandad/Dad?' Never taken into account his wishes and feelings around food and has referred to him as being 'a nightmare' when making his simple food requests. His requests were not unreasonable at all. He has lost over 2 stone in six months, which she will refer to as water weight loss. However, we disagree. I have requested the company complaints procedure, however, the response to this was her blocking my car on the car park and shouting at me about my grandfather not doing as he was told.

Current Review Score: 5.8 (5.831)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 5.8 (5.831) out of 10 for Gorway House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 2.7 out of 5 from 2 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.2 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 2.652 for Gorway House is calculated as follows: ( (6 Excellents x 5) + (4 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) + (12 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 23 Ratings = 2.652
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.179 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Gorway House is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 = 3
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 28 registered maximum number of service users is 5.6. 1 Positive Reviews ÷ 5.6 = 0.179
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
