My Mother-in-Law, who suffers from mixed dementia, has just spent her third time here for respite care. Can't recommend the place highly enough. From the Management to all the Staff who take care of her and feed her. I feel confident and more than happy leaving my Mother-in-Law in their capable hands. Many thanks again, everyone at Wykenhurst!

The home became aware of a potentially cancerous lump and immediately contacted me with an update and the proposed hospital scan. Unfortunately she wouldn't cooperate or allow the scan which was typical of her behavioural issues and I was contacted with that update and we discussed the way ahead. A second visit was arranged and a member of staff who knew her well and understood her behaviour went with her and I was given the opportunity to speak with the consultant prior to the exam. The staff member's involvement went a long way to pacifying her and ultimately allowing the scan to go ahead which was a vital part of her examination. I was able to listen by phone as it happened and my sister was kept calm and reassured. I've had several phone conversations with the home since and I know they are caring for her in the very best way, both staff and admin

Wykenhurst Residential Home has the human touch. I've turned up unannounced many times to see how my mother is doing and have always been amazed at the degree of patience and care that the staff give to their residents. There are plenty of staff around when you walk in, and the managers make time for your questions and concerns. I've been regularly contacted and kept up to date with matters concerning my mother's medical and emotional needs. The communication has been efficient and friendly with imaginative and sensible choices being rolled over in step with my mother's situation. I'm very thankful and grateful for the loving care my mother receives at Wykenhurst. Because of them, I can live my own life, just as my mother would want me to do.

My brother was at Wykenhurst for 12 years. He was as settled as content as he had ever been in his many years in residential care. Wykenhurst provided a good balance between care and maintaining his freedom. It really was his home with staff being part of 'his family'. For the last three months of his life the staff went above and beyond in providing care and support for him and the immediate family. Staff even visited him in hospital taking suitable treats to enhance his quality of life. In short, nothing was too much trouble.

After a stay of many years my brother now regards the Care Home as his home, and does not wish for any other. He appreciates the staff, who all appears to be both caring and efficient. They respect the residents and their families and encourage visitors and telephone contact.
The building provides opportunities for privacy and for companionship. Care is given as required, and independence encouraged within the ability of the individual.
Those able to go out unaccompanied can do so, whilst others can do with the staff or family, is appropriate.
Those who do not want to go out can remain inside. In their bedrooms when they wish, or in one of the lounges, or in the garden room or the garden.
There is a television set in on of the lounges, and some of the residents choose to have their own television or radio sets in their bedroom.
Likewise, there is a payphone for general use, but any who wish can have a private phone in his or her bedroom.

The aim of all staff is making each resident feel truly at home.

Clearly, our experience has been more limited during lockdowns etc, but overall very positive. An excellent home characterised by its homely atmosphere and dedicated leadership. Worthy of trust in all respects. No need for more characters!

I feel that a professional care service is being provided for my brother, with open and honest communication from the care home at all times. Also very caring and responsible staff who are kind and patient with my brother's complex needs. The consistently good quality of care is reassuring for me as I live almost an hour's drive away. Pre-covid I often rang to arrange a visit at short notice due to my working pattern and was always welcome and able to spend time with my brother who has maintained the best health we can expect given his needs and even made slight improvements in some areas.

I'm in constant contact with my sister, but can only visit twice a year.

However, from this, I can conclude that I am very happy with the care and accommodation that she is provided with.

Wykenhurst Care Home has a warm and friendly atmosphere whenever I visit. The staff are always helpful and I am always greeted with an update on my sister's condition. Wykenhurst has a comfortable, homely feel, which must make it easier for the residents to settle. This review is based on my yearly visits.

I recently visited my sister at Wykenhurst with my wife, we were made to feel really welcome by the staff and all the residents. We had a guided tour and found the home to be very clean and spacious. What struck me was there were parts of the house that were busy i.e restaurant plus communal areas but there were areas that were very peaceful, garden room. The garden is very good.

Our relative has been in Wykenhurst for one year. He has not always been the easiest to manage due to his dementia. The staff have been helpful in all aspects and have kept us well informed. Above all, we appreciate the efforts to make everything homely with respect for the wishes of the residents.
