There are activities, which are completely optional, lots of rooms to relax in and residents' own rooms are peaceful and homely. Food and drinks seem to be never ending and the staff "keep an eye" without being intrusive, yet they are always happy to chat.
There is a reason why the staff turnover is so low and residents, it seems, stay for years as they wish. It is the owners' life's work, very hands on and approachable, not some faceless company.
Your Dad is a real star at the home, meeting and greeting new residents and always putting others before himself - a true Gentleman and a pleasure to look after. It is also lovely to have so much involvement from the family, particularly over the Christmas time,...
Mum was in Sambrook for 4 years before she sadly died earlier this year. The care she received was exceptional particularly towards the end of her life when there was no question of her being moved to a nursing home despite her being bed bound and needing complete care. Many of the staff including the excellent care manager have worked there for years and are so proud of the care they give. It is a real family with your relative the centre of all they do.The food is exceptional and all home cooked by 2 lovely chefs.Jan the activities coordinator comes in 3 or 4 times a week to play bingo, do quizzes , art, games and often cooking. Birthdays are celebrated with decorated cakes and parties are often arranged to celebrate special occasions with a Mothers Day tea, an Easter bonnet parade and there were even medals for each resident to commemorate VE Day and the Coronation. Mum was so happy there I could not recommend it any more highly
Thank you for your lovely review, I will makes sure that the staff get to read it, because it is lovely that you talked about how they cared for her particularly towards the end of her life. Mum was a central figure amongst the residents, and one who would always take part in all the activities. It...
The management and staff really took care of her and she was very happy there.
The food was excellent and we often joined her for lunch at Christmas and special occasions. We would have no hesitation in recommending Sambrook House.
Many thanks for you great review - it was a pleasure and a privilege to care for Mum and she certainly embraced what we had and enjoyed her time here! Sadly missed.
Sambrook House might not be as big or as modern as some care homes but it is more like a home and the resident is more like a member of an extended family. Would recommend in a heart beat.
Many thanks for your great review, it is always sad when people pass away, but I shall remember your Dad with great fondness and I am so glad we did the exhibition at Easter where we learnt about his passion for gardening - seeing him with a watering can at one of the waist-high troughs we bought him is one of my favorite photos! Please keep in touch!
Mom will have been in Sambrook Care Home two years in November. She is looked after royally and wants for nothing. The staff go over and above their call of duty to see she is comfortable. As her daughter I wholeheartedly recommend this care home. Meals are of hotel standard, the place is spotless, the staff are all so friendly. What more can I say. It is a "home from home".
Many thanks for you wonderful review - high praise indeed! It is lovely to see Mum (who is always smiling) enjoying her time here (am I allowed to say at 100 years young!)Homely or 'home from home' I always feel is one of the best things people can say about Sambrook House as it is what we strive...
We would recommend Sambrook for anyone looking for a care home for a loved one. We have a family member permanently residing there and are totally satisfied with the friendly staff, management and facilities.
Many thanks for your lovely review - it is great to see how well he has settled back in to Sambrook House living, and just like last time he LOVES the food (he is always the last to leave the table at lunchtime). It is great to have him back!
His room is clean bright and very comfortable with lovely views. He really enjoys the company of the staff and other residents. The staff are attentive without being overbearing and have always got time to talk.
Despite his grand age Dad is quite independent and active and he is encouraged to be so. He does his daily walks on the landing and takes the lift down to the conservatory calling into the staff office for a chat! The garden is lovely and easily accessible.
The food is excellent and Dad's eating has really improved. He is delighted with the regular drinks and cake!!
Regular activities are organised and Special occasions are always marked eg Easter Eggs, Birthday cake.
Great care and respect is shown to the residents and the owners are very hands on.
We cannot recommend highly enough.
Thank you for your great review. Dad has truly settled and is enjoying living at Sambrook House. He meets up with many of the other residents every day, and always has a yarn to spin.It is an absolute pleasure looking after him!
Having placed my father in a home over ten years ago I was well accommodated with the number of poor homes there are. This home however was from the off looking very good in every possible way, and it proved to be every bit as good as it looked when I placed mum in there. She is now better looked after than we could do at home in what is a very comfortable home as opposed to an institution.
Many thanks for your lovely review. I am always delighted when people imply that we provide a homely environment rather than an institution. It is such a pleasure to have Mum join us (am I allowed to say at 106 years young!!!). She is great company and always say that she enjoying her stay with us.
Mom has been living in Sandbrook House for over three years. The care she receives is excellent. All of the staff are friendly and helpful. Mom looks forward to all the activities and entertainment. These include bingo, quizzes, crafts and armchair aerobics. The meals provided are delicious and nutritious. Guests can join residents for lunch and all dietary needs can be catered for. Sambrook House has a lovely homely feel, and makes everyone welcome.
Many thanks for your lovely review. It is lovely that you specifically mentioned the food as we are very proud of the meals that our two chefs produce, and you are right, we do allow families to book to eat with their loved one (Mum/Dad hosting dinner once again!), all we ask is a small donation to the Resident's Comforts Fund that is then spent on activities, crafts and entertainers.
My aunt took up residence when she was quite unwell, after a period of struggling to live independently. Sambrook House staff have cared for her so well since then.
When I visited with my sister and son, we were all really impressed by the cosy feel of the place, and also by the professionalism of all the carers & care arrangements. If I ever need a care home myself, I would want to live somewhere as lovely as Sambrook House.
Many thanks for your lovely review - we strive to provide a safe, friendly, caring etc environment, but to be told you were impressed by it being 'cosy' is a lovely tribute. Being told we are 'homely' (as this implies) means to me that we have got it right - it is that overall feeling within the place. Thank you.
The food is second to none. Mum has thrived since being here. There are regular activities for the residents, and several special events throughout the year including afternoon teas, Mother's Day lunch and and annual BBQ.
Mum could not receive any better care anywhere. I would not want her to be anywhere else. Having had some experience of other care homes, I believe Sambrook House cannot be beaten for exceptional care.
That is a fantastic review - thank you!Mum always has a smile on her face and thoroughly enjoys all the activities we put on. It is also lovely the amount of time you and your sisters spend with Mum and attend our events - thank you for your continued support in everything we do here :)
My mother has been a resident at Sambrook House since July 2021. The care received has always been and remains excellent. Staff will go over and above to assist, take time to chat and re-assure when needed. Activities, musical afternoons, keep fit and events throughout the year are always enjoyed by the majority of residents. Hairdressing services are regular and the daily menu is of a high standard with plenty of variety. 10/10.
Many thanks for your very positive review. Mum certainly enjoys taking part in the activities and meeting up with everyone else in the care home. She is a great quizzer!
Happy to recommend Sambrook House excellent care and truly lovely staff. I would be happy to put myself in there.
Many thanks for taking the time to submit a review - Mum is doing well and still reading the newspaper cover to cover every day!
Small friendly home with dedicated staff always there to help and talk about any concerns. Home manager and owners always available if there are any problems. Birthdays celebrated in a great way- always cake!
Many thanks for taking the time to submit a review.
Our mom has been a resident at Sambrook since December 2021. We can honestly say we are extremely grateful that she was placed here. The emphasis is on "care". Forget all these newly built facades of anywhere else and choose here. All the staff are tremendous. Most have worked together for years and are a team. Patient, kind and professional. The food is exceptional. Mom has put on 1 1/2 stone! There are activities 4/5 times a week and the owner organised family events. From the admin office to the cleaners- exceptional.
Many thanks for your glowing review. I think it is fair to say that Mum is so happy here and a great part of the community! She is great company and a pleasure to look after! Thank you.
We cannot speak highly enough of this fantastic home. Mum regularly says to us that she could not be anywhere better.
Thank you, for your kind words, and thank you for being so involved in the care home and everything we do! Your mum truly is a success story, and we feel privileged to be part of her journey. It's been wonderful to see her appetite and confidence return, and the joy she brings to group activities...
I am writing on behalf of my mother in law who is now 97 and has lived at Sambrook since February 2013. She chose the home due to its friendly atmosphere and quiet, rural location. Over the years her health has deteriorated but at no time did the home ask for her to be moved to a nursing home as she has, for the past 4 years been totally dependent on their care and support. A wonderful set of dedicated and long service staff.
Many thanks for taking the time to provide a review for us ... If I could just pick up on your rating for 'activities' as it may be something that you are not aware of, but our Activities Coordinator (who is in 3 days a week) always spends time with Mum-in-law, privately in her room, doing things...

Meet the Team (4)

My name is Neil Robson, and my wife (Sue) and I bought Sambrook House Residential Care Home on April 6th 2005.
I have an Engineering Degree from the University of Surrey and a postgraduate Diploma in Management Studies from Portsmouth University.’
I spent a little over 20 years working in industry, starting my career in design engineering and around 1990 moved into the emerging world of computing, firstly designing test rigs, then dealing with company statistics and marketing. My last position, based in Portsmouth, saw me responsible for the finance systems across the whole of Europe for a multinational company, which gave me valuable managerial and project management experience, delivering multi-million pound systems on time and to budget. My 'hobbies' are many and varied, but have always included 'DIY'. Having 'rebuilt' and redecorated several houses, I see Sambrook House as my biggest 'project' yet.
I love being around people (particularly the older generation who have fascinating life stories to Other than First Aid and Defibrillator, I have no specific 'care' qualifications (I leave that to the Gill and her team of professionals), I am very 'caring' and derive great pleasure from seeing the joy and contentment on the faces of our residents.
Within the locality, I am also a local Parish Councillor and the Chair of the local Village Hall Committee within Sambrook.
I take great pride in what we have achieved and the amazing team that works herein Sambrook House, and enjoy the challenges it presents.

Sue is also Owner/Director of Sambrook House and brings a wealth of experience to the organisation.
For a period of 9 years, she held numerous Director-level posts in the NHS (mostly in Portsmouth), her last one being the Director of Commissioning for Telford and Wrekin PCT.
With her degree in Nursing from the University of Surrey, her role in the organisation is to provide direct support to Gill, our Care Manager, as well as Board-level guidance on care homes’ developments.
She, too (as well as Neil) has a postgraduate Diploma in Management from the University of Portsmouth.
Sue has many outside interests as well – she is on the Board of Partners in Care (PIC) as well as the (now) Vice Chairman of Age UK (Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin). She is the Chair of Age UK Regional, and sits on the Age UK National Influencing Committee.
She is also a Trustee and Director of the Newport Cottage Care Center (for the elderly)

‘I joined Sambrook House Residential Care Home in April 2007, having held several senior posts mostly in the Domiciliary Care sector. This is my third post as the Registered Care Manager.’

‘We are blessed with an excellent and stable team of highly motivated and very well-trained staff who enjoy giving care to our clients’
Gill holds the ‘Registered Managers Award’ and graduated from Harper Adams University in 2015 with a ‘Certificate in Higher Education for Professional Development in Management’ and a ‘Level 5 Diploma in Business Management’.
In 2016, Gill won the prestigious ‘CARE MANAGER OF THE YEAR’ award for Shropshire (the award, along with others, is in the entrance hall). It was a fantastic achievement and testament to her expertise, leadership, standards, guidance and managerial skills.
‘I have responsibility for the welfare of our clients and staff. I am available to speak to you or your family at a time convenient to all concerned. I like to maintain an ‘open door’ policy at all times. If you or your family have any issues, queries, or suggestions, then please come and find me, and I promise I will do my best to deal with them for you. You will either find me in and around the Home or in my office, which is the door off the staff room corridor.’
‘I like to maintain an open door policy at all times...’

‘I joined Sambrook House Residential Care Home in April 2019, taking over the helm from Carol, who retired having been the Company Administrator for some 11 years. I joined the Company with over 9 years of experience in a similar role locally. I will be your main port of call for anything financial, from fees to client pocket money.
