Hunters Lodge Residential Care Home is located in the Melton Mowbray area. Based in the quiet and picturesque village of Old Dalby, this home is surrounded by acres of farmland and was originally a block of stables, which were converted in 1984.

Their primary ethos is to provide the highest standard of care and quality of life for residents. They ensure that all care is administered with respect, compassion and understanding to provide dignity for all residents.

Residents are encouraged to choose the decor for their rooms and to adorn with their own personal trinkets and belongings to suit their own personal tastes.

It took 3 tries to find the right care home for my father and I have to say it was 3rd time lucky! I am so grateful for Hunters Lodge and their incredibly kind, compassionate and hard-working staff. My father unfortunately has many underlying health problems so each day can be a battle for him and we
take each day as it comes. On his bad days when he is in pain or not feeling well the carers are so attentive and do their best to put a smile on his face. There was one evening I visited because he wasn’t feeling well and one of the lady carers was humming a lullaby to him to help alleviate him feeling nauseous, this almost brought a tear to my eye. It makes the world of a difference to know he is being well looked after. Thank you Hunters Lodge!

I couldn't recommend the Hunters Lodge enough. The staff (kitchen, carers, security) are happy and helpful and the care that my grandfather received was exemplary. My grandfather was especially happy with the food.

My grandma has been at Hunters Lodge Residential Care Home for a few months now and I’ve been very reluctant to leave her at a home especially as we are such a close family. However, this care home has been absolutely incredible. My grandma really enjoys the activities and the facilities are so good
meaning she actually feels at home and really enjoys speaking to the other residents there. She’s made some friends and the staff look after her so well, especially during the pandemic when she would be at higher risk, they’ve looked after her every step of the way and I cannot thank the staff enough. They also cater for lots of different food types so she gets some good food to eat as well. Lastly, the hygiene is really good and everything is kept clean and she has been glowing about the place every time we have spoken to her. I don’t think we could have found a better place to look after our Gran. Really grateful and highly recommend. Thank You.

Obviously, I have not visited Hungerslodge but I have every faith in them. My Mum is happy and safe there. I know by her voice. I also am impressed with all the caring staff who I have spoken to on the telephone. They genuinely care for my Mum. I have delivered clothes to the home and seen it from the
outside. It looks beautiful.

One of the best care homes I have seen to date. My grandad suffers from dementia and my family were looking to place him in a home that would understand and facilitate his needs. Hunters Lodge does just that. The staff, practice manager and the care home owners do a fantastic job in making sure the
home is run efficiently, safely and effectively. They have a cinema room, sensory room and garden area and carry out daily activities specifically catered for the needs of residents. The home smells lovely and each room is individually designed with ensuites and are very clean, which gives comfort to families wanting to provide the best home for their loved ones. I couldn’t recommend Hunters Lodge enough.

Very welcoming home, with lots of activities for the residents to participate in. When I visited my aunt they had the local school children come in to play games with the residents. This was a really nice interaction with both generations. I also liked the attention to detail in decorating my aunt's

My Mother was admitted to Hunters Lodge following four weeks in another place with a broken ankle. When she arrived at Hunters Lodge she had multiple bruises on her legs sores on her back and around her waist through lack of bed care. The staff made it a priority to get her clean and comfortable. During
the four weeks of her stay she was loved and cared for, the staff were compassionate and worked without failing to provide the best level of care available even though they knew her time would be short. They restored dignity to my mothers failing health and dementia. When she passed away on 21st July, the staff could not have been more caring for us sharing in our loss and grief. I have no hesitation in recommending the staff on Kittwood unit to anyone seeking care for their family members.

I have visited my Dad regularly for 2 1/2 years. Visiting is open - any time. The entry door is unlocked and staff are always welcoming. In a very different setting, the atmosphere is always upbeat. The kitchen is at the core of the home - just as at home. There is an endless supply of food - prepared
and cooked. Recent staffing turnover problems - now settling with new management. Overall very pleased.

Very caring staff, very friendly and helpful. Staff know their patients and their individual needs. My mother's end of life care was excellent. She was always kept clean and comfortable, treated with dignity and respect and other health professionals were called in promptly when required. Paperwork
and end of life drugs were in place in advance. No pressure to empty mum's room after she passed away.

Hunters Lodge is, without doubt, the best residential home that I've ever had dealings with. From the moment you walk in, there is an atmosphere of calm, quiet competence and the residents are comfortable, well cared for and happy. I am really happy that my mother is in their care.

After viewing several homes and although not wanting to place my husband in one, Hunters Lodge seemed the right place for him.
Hunters Lodge and the staff were excellent. The care is second to none. If I had to choose again, I would not hesitate to have it as my choice.

Hunters Lodge have looked after my wife in excess of 10 years. It has been difficult at times but overall definitely the right place. The carers, kitchen staff couldn't have been more cheerful and helpful. Dads stay was good even though it was shorter than expected. The advice and help given for the Gold standard framework and end of life were given with much kindness. Support during the final hours was second to none. As near to

Our dad has severe dementia and this care home offered a small comfortable setting in a village near to where we live. Th staff and management are so caring, understanding and well trained to deal with symptoms of dementia. The environment is clean, sweet smelling and homely. The food is freshly cooked
and varied. Dad has settled very well and we are delighted with our choice.

It is wonderful to see the attention and fuss everyone makes of Mum, and seeing her laughing, smiling and dancing in her chair is brilliant.
There are horror stories going around regarding care homes and the treatment of their residents so I am sure you can imagine we were a little concerned about
admitting Mum into anywhere.
We need not have worried. Since taking over the daily responsibility of the care of our mother, she has had balance issues, difficulty eating and drinking, been admitted to hospital and urine infections, and you have constantly demonstrated professionalism and sympathy.
Throughout this time, you and your staff have all treated Mum with love, respect, dignity, understanding and patience. We realise there are certain levels of care you are required to achieve by law, but you go way beyond that. Your home is run like one big happy family and although I feel guilty and somewhat sad when I leave her after a visit I know she could not be in better hands.

Sarah is devoted to creating a home-from-home environment, ensuring that every resident feels valued, comfortable, and well-supported.


At Hunters Lodge, we strive to provide the highest standards of care so that families can feel confident knowing their loved ones are in safe and capable hands. Our well-trained and compassionate team—including care workers, activity staff, kitchen staff, domestics, and our maintenance team—work together to enhance the lives of our residents. This is further strengthened by the expertise of our training and compliance officer, Jayne, who ensures our staff continue to uphold the very best practices in care.

Jayne joined the Hunters Lodge team in 2023, bringing with her over 30 years of invaluable experience in the care sector. Her journey in care began as a young woman right here at Hunters Lodge, making her return even more special.


Jayne’s true passion lies in training and development, ensuring that everyone working in care has access to the right skills and knowledge to provide high-quality, person-centred support. She plays a vital role in work-based supervisions and observations, always being available for staff to discuss any training needs.


In addition to her training role, Jayne also leads our Well-Being Wednesday sessions, offering a safe and supportive space for staff to drop in, have a chat, and seek guidance when needed. Her dedication and approachable nature make her an invaluable part of the Hunters Lodge team.
