I'm satisfied that mum receives good care at The Lodge. Staff are kind and respectful both to mum, myself and her visitors. She enjoys her meals which look and smell appetising.
Her room is now looking rather shabby but I understand a project of refurbishment is under way.

Mum is happy to return to the Lodge after an outing so that speaks volumes.

My mum has been at the Lodge for 5 months now and has settled in really well. All the staff are very nice and friendly and treat my mum with care and I feel very happy knowing she is safe. She has her hair done by the hairdresser on site which she loves. All the food is cooked fresh daily and when we visit there is always a cup of tea on offer and a biscuit. Mum takes part in the activities that are available which she enjoys. I have received lovely home made cards and a bracelet. The managers are very approachable and happy to chat if you have any questions.

We as a family can not thank the lodge enough for all the care that they provide for my mum, and for the support they also give to our family. Everyone from the team from the top down have been very supportive. Nothing is too much trouble for anyone.

Do not send your loved ones to this home especially if they have dementia related issues. The staff are unable to look after them correctly but that is probably due to poor management. The home is tired. They are not fed nutritious foods only sandwiches or cheese and potato pie! Nice and cheap for the greedy owners. Shame on you. It's time the CQC cracked down on these poorly ran homes. More inspections are required to make sure our loved ones are looked after in the Winter of their lives.

Reply from Tracey Frisby, Manager at The Lodge Care Home

If you could provide further details about your concerns, we would be grateful for the opportunity to investigate and take appropriate action. Regular inspections and internal reviews are part of our commitment to maintaining the best possible care for our residents.

After a very challenging 18 months of caring for our wonderful mum as her dementia got worse and her health deteriorated we managed to secure a place at The Lodge for her. We were made to feel very welcome from the minute we set foot in the door. I find it a very comfortable place with just the right amount of residents to make it feel like an extended family. It has been lovely getting to know the other residents and their families. Mum has a beautiful room overlooking the gardens, with her own private bathroom, but chooses to spend the majority of her time downstairs in the living room with her friends who support each other on a daily basis. Mum has settled really well and joins in all the activities on offer, she especially enjoys getting her hair done every week. The families are encouraged to be involved with daily life and it feels a very inclusive space. Thank you to all the amazing hard working team for making a tough decision easy to cope with.

My mother has been at the lodge now for 2 months, we have seen a remarkable change in her mental well-being and has regained that sparkle in her eye. The staff are attentive to her needs and pamper her like she has never been pampered before mum always smiles and is very chatty with us and her newfound friends. The lodge is more like a family home welcoming and warm and my mum is so happy there and we are happy in the knowledge she is well cared for.

I have found The Lodge to have very friendly and helpful staff. One lady is a joy; she does the activities with the residents and makes lovely craft products.
Mum always looks happy and clean. And they keep me updated on any problems she may be having.
I can go at any time to visit and feel one of the family.

May they keep up the good work.

Staff are great friendly and helpful.

It is relatively informal which in my mum's and my case is a strength.

My husband went for 2 weeks respite, I went to visit him after 2 days in there and was quite shocked at his appearance, he didn't have his proper clothes on and I stayed about an hour and a half. He was only just having breakfast at about quarter to eleven.
Then before I left it was dinner time 12.30 pm. What I saw on his plate was very unappetising, a small sausage, a spoonful of mash with a drop of gravy.
When I went to bring him home I was told by the staff his things would be packed and ready. In fact, I had to go chasing around for most of it.
He wears expensive digital hearing aids and he didn't have them in and one of them was missing, how they expect to communicate with him without them is beyond belief, I told the management it was missing but didn't seem bothered.

I was ringing them for days when we got home about the missing hearing aid and they said they hadn't found it, but as soon as I said I was going to claim on their insurance it was found, its incompetence.

Since my mother has been in the home (nine months) her health has improved due to regular drinks, decent meals and regular medication. The home is always clean and never smells. The staff are always ready to help. Mum seems happy and looks very well. We would definitely recommend this home to anyone else looking for a safe place to place their parents.

I am very pleased with my mother's care over the past two years that she has been a resident in The Lodge.
The Lodge has a very homely feel and a lovely garden where garden parties for residents and their families are held.
The staff are very efficient, friendly and helpful and I feel that they make a difficult situation, due to my mother's declining health, easier.

I would certainly recommend The Lodge.

Although this has a friendly atmosphere and the staff are equally friendly, I have found it extremely frustrating when trying to contact anyone.
The phones are not manned and it can be days before you manage to speak to someone.

On the whole, Mum is happy and has settled well but I do think there are some aspects that could be improved.

Many thanks for publishing your review we are very sorry you have had a difficult time trying to get through to the home on occasion, this problem has now been resolved and we always welcome any feedback. Mum is a much-loved resident we are happy that she has settled well into The Lodge.
