The Bungalow is a vibrant and welcoming care home in Farnworth, Bolton.

Supporting people from across the Bolton borough, the home provides high-quality assisted living, day services, and respite care to individuals from all walks of life.

Its small, homely setting is what truly sets The Bungalow apart. With fewer residents than larger homes, the team can build genuine relationships, getting to know each person’s preferences, routines, and choices.

This personal approach ensures every resident receives care that feels truly individual.

The care team is open, friendly, honest, and warm-hearted. They work hard to ensure each resident feels comfortable, valued, and respected - never just a number. Every team member embodies the home’s five core values: trustworthy, caring, honest, reliable, and kind-hearted.

With single-storey living throughout, the home is easy to navigate and supports residents to feel safe, confident, and at ease from the moment they arrive.

Residents enjoy a wide variety of activities, including knitting groups, art classes, armchair exercises, bingo, flower arranging, movie nights, and beauty sessions. The home also welcomes regular visits from alpacas, pet therapy animals, magicians, comedians, singers, and musicians.

If a resident has a favourite hobby or activity, the team is always happy to add it to the schedule.

Families are warmly invited to visit and experience the welcoming atmosphere that makes The Bungalow so special.

To ensure the team can offer a proper tour and dedicated time, all viewings must be booked in advance by calling the home.

The team look forward to welcoming new visitors soon.

    •    During meal times, the team encourage loved ones to enjoy some quiet time together in the resident’s room, so that communal dining areas remain relaxed and comfortable for those eating.
    •    CCTV is in operation throughout the home for the safety and security of residents, visitors, and staff.

Parking

  • There is ample parking available directly outside the care home. If the private parking area is full, additional on‑street parking can be found within 10 metres of the home.
The team kindly ask all visitors not to park in or block the main entrance, as this area must remain clear at all times to ensure safe access for wheelchairs, mobility equipment, and emergency vehicles such as ambulances.

My Mum has lived at The Bungalow now for two years. The staff are attentive, considerate and treat
every Resident with kindness and respect. There is plenty going on for the residents to participate in and the staff are always on hand and happy to go the extra mile whenever needed. There is a homely
feel to The Bungalow and staff readily engage with Residents and visitors alike. I am more than happy with the standard of care Mum receives and feel the staff have become extended family.

I'm a Youth Worker at a local High School and every week I take a group of pupils to visit the residents of The Bungalow. It genuinely is the highlight of our week! The pupils are so excited to catch up with their friends in the home and they get so much from interacting with them. So far we've played
games, painted, done manicures, danced, played bingo, had a party including pass the parcel and decorated biscuits!
The staff have always made us feel so welcome and it's heartwarming to see how much they care about the residents. We are really grateful that they've let us into their little family!
Thanks for having us x
Reply from Corrine Cooke, Manager at The Bungalow Care HomeIt means a great deal to all of us at The Bungalow to hear how much the pupils enjoy their visits - it truly brightens our week too.
Thank you as well for your kind words about the staff. We're delighted that you feel welcome and part of our little family - that's exactly the environment we aim to create.
We're already looking forward to the next visit.
Thank you for being such an important part of our community.

My mother has been at The Bungalow for a couple of years now and I cannot commend it enough! The staff truly provide personalised care and know my mother really well. They have supported her through ill health and are always kind, patient and truly caring. Staffing levels are good and the staff turnover
is very low which to me indicates the staff are happy too, which is so important. Individual needs like clothing preferences, daily routines, meal choice (excellent home cooked food!) and activities are always individualised. The Bungalow is a lovely, cosy care home, it's well run and most importantly I feel my mum is safe and extremely well cared for.

All staff are friendly and helpful all the time. The staff always have time for any questions or requests. All the staff treat the residents with kindness and humour and cater to their every need. I wouldn't want my mother at any other care home than here because I feel she's very safe here.

My mum stayed at The Bungalow for 20 months until she passed away at 100 years old. She was looked after with the utmost care by the amazing staff right to the end. I cannot fault this care home. Everything about it is just perfect. The room, activities, home-cooked food, but most of all the staff.
They truly are amazing. Nothing was too much trouble. They treated her with dignity and care. We love them all and will miss not seeing them regularly.
Reply from Michael Heald, Managing Director at The Bungalow Care HomeThank you for your lovely review! It was our pleasure to look after your mum. She was a little fighter till the end. We will always remember her smile and the conversations we had with her. When there was rugby on and your mum didn't know about it, there was always one member of our staff to remind her about it and she loved it! We will miss playing bingo with her and also seeing her eating all these chocolate rolls!

All our staff will miss your mum and you. You are always welcome in our home for a brew and biscuits! You are all such a loving family. We look forward to seeing you again!

This is an absolutely fantastic care home. The staff are absolutely lovely and care a lot for all their residents. All the residents in the home are happy, smiley and well cared for and it just goes to show when you meet anyone in there. They definitely go above and beyond! I would recommend this care
home to anyone who needs to put a loved one in a home and they can do it with absolutely no doubt they will be cared for like they are family.

The staff is very friendly and caring and provides all Mum's needs. Mum says she feels she is being well looked after and she likes her room, it's very cosy!. The home is very welcoming and very clean. I feel Mum is being treated with dignity and understanding.
Reply from Michael Heald, Managing Director at The Bungalow Care HomeThank you very much for your review. We are so happy that your mum is enjoying our services!

We have consulted with the management team and residents to renew our activities as this seems to be an area that needs attention. We have now incorporated many new activities such as;

Knitting classes once a week by an external knitting teacher.

We are organising a family fun day in December.

We are booking in an Alpaca visit.

We have some new trips to the pub, local garden centres, shopping etc dependant on resident preferences.

We now have a keyboard player every 2 weeks.

We have a magician coming in December and we are booking a comedian for early next year.

We are also bringing back visits from the reptile show.

We will publish the dates in reception. Families are welcome to all entertainer visits.

Thank you for your valued opinion. We do appreciate the feedback as it helps us see where we are doing well and where we need to improve!

We as a family have the luxury of peace of mind although she
has deteriorated physically and mentally her well being has improved greatly since she moved in not all care systems go the extra mile but the bunglow does so thank you
Reply from Michael Heald, Managing Director at The Bungalow Care HomeThanks for the great review it is much appreciated! Your mum is a part of the furniture we would not know what to do without her. She brightens up everyone's day and makes me laugh with her cheeky comments!

We will work on the activities as I noticed you gave us 4/5. I will sit down with management to review the activity list and speak to the residents at the next resident meeting to see if we can get some different ideas together. If you can think of anything, let us know we welcome all ideas big and small.

See you around the home soon. Thank you!

My mum has been a resident at The Bungalow for a few years now. She has dementia and is unable to walk now. The care she has received has been exceptional. The staff know her well and treat her with kindness and respect.
She has recently been very poorly and spent a night in hospital but we have all
made the decision that the best place for her to cared for is The Bungalow, where we know she is happy and all the staff show her such kindness.
As a regular visitor, I have got to know them and they make me feel so welcome.
I didn’t think a care home could be like this as you hear awful stories, but I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone.
Reply from Michael Heald, Managing Director at The Bungalow Care HomeThank you so much for your lovely review. I am glad to hear that you are happy with the care your mum receives here. I am very glad she made a recovery recently! Back to sucking on those toffees again!
We will endeavour to keep on looking after her as best as possible and I will pass your fantastic comments to the staff. Thank you!

As a family we were very concerned that Dad had to go into a care home, however, the Bungalow is more than that, it’s a home, with such caring staff. It’s remarkable the care they give to make loved ones feel at home, loved and cherished. Individual rooms can be decorated and furnished with treasured
possessions. The food is excellent, home-cooked and a real highlight. Activities are plentiful from day trips to flower arranging, and visits from singers to animals. Visiting is always welcome. A brilliant home with brilliant staff.
Reply from Michael Heald, Managing Director at The Bungalow Care HomeThank you for your review. We are so happy to hear that you feel that way about our care home! I'm so pleased to hear such wonderful comments. The staff try their absolute hardest and run a great service. I am proud of them. I will ensure that these comments are passed on.
If you would like to propose any changes or any ideas on how to improve our service, please let us know!

I arrived here unable to mobilise without the use of a wheelchair. This establishment has quickly allowed me to become mobile without the use of any mobility aid, except a walking stick. The staff have always supported me in a specific way and have given me the opportunity to improve my health and my
mobility. I cannot recommend this facility enough and anyone requiring residential care should seriously consider this excellent facility.

My dad moved into The Bungalow nearly 5 months ago. From the day he moved in he's been made to feel truly special and I am made to feel very welcome whenever I visit. To anyone faced with the important decision of their loved one moving into full-time care, I can't recommend The Bungalow enough -
it is a wonderful place to be! I now have a peace-of-mind that I didn't before knowing that he is safe and well cared for. It is also the perfect sized home for my dad. Some of the other homes I viewed were just too big to feel homely and I feared my dad would have got lost. At least here he hasn't far to walk between rooms. He is enjoying the company of others and the entertainment at the home which includes singers and armchair keep-fit means he is stimulated and happy in a way that he hadn't been for a long time. Being at The Bungalow has given my dad a new lease of life. The owner and his staff are wonderful. They are hardworking, caring and loyal. I can't thank them enough!

Current Review Score: 9.0 (9.039)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.0 (9.039) out of 10 for The Bungalow Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 3 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.0 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 5.000 for The Bungalow Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (35 Excellents x 5) ) ÷ 35 Ratings = 5
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.039 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Bungalow Care Home is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.25
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 19 registered maximum number of service users is 3.8. 3 Positive Reviews ÷ 3.8 = 0.789
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
