Orcadia is a versatile care environment staffed by a team of experienced professionals. Older people with long-term or short-term respite needs are welcomed, while the home also specialises in helping adults with a learning disability.

While enjoying a homely interior, the residents of Orcadia have their independence and an interesting lifestyle supported as much as possible, with convenient access to nearby amenities and transport routes and much to enjoy within the facility itself.

All care solutions are set up in a person-centred manner, combining with a versatile activities programme in order to make sure clients feel both secure and fulfilled.

As well as residential services, Orcadia also provides day care.

Lauren MacDonald

Job Title: Registered Manager

Description:

Lauren has 24 years experience in care and has previously cared for older people as well as adults with learning disabilities. She has a selection of qualifications including a HNC in Management and is a Registered General Nurse. Lauren understands the importance of life long learning and has recently completed courses in Mental Health, End of Life Care and is currently studying a Dementia Awareness course.
Lauren loves her job and feels very lucky to work in such a warm friendly environment with good people.

Description:

Sam is a local mum of two. In her spare time, she loves to cook delicious treats to share with family and friends. Sam works with children providing stimulating activities in after school and holiday clubs as well as working at Orcadia. She is very popular with the service users and great at thinking of new craft activities to keep everyone interested.

Description:

Beth is a kind and caring young lady who began coming to Orcadia when she was studying Health and Social Care at Marple College. She quickly became popular with the Service Users and staff. Beth was offered a full-time place with the team.
Beth then went on to secure a job in Cyprus caring for people in their own homes. Beth has experience working with elderly people as well as people with learning difficulties. She is also experienced in delivering palliative care. At all times Beth treats others with dignity and respect.
She has level 2 and 3 in health and social care and is presently studying Maths and English in prep for commencing her training to become a Nurse.

Leanne Harrison

Job Title: Senior Support Worker

Description:

Lovely Leanne began her journey at Orcadia during a work based placement from college. She was a natural with the Service User's and was offered a position as soon as she completed her courses (level 2 and 3 in Health and Social Care). Everyone thinks highly of Leanne because of her kind and thoughtful nature. She has excellent communication skills and always treats everyone with dignity and respect. Leanne loves animals and her family. She enjoys crafts and cooking with the Service Users and likes to contribute to the planning of activities.
Leanne is now doing her level 5 in management.

Vanessa

Vanessa Glynn

Job Title: Support Worker

Description:

Vanessa has been friends with Orcadia for over 20 years and has an excellent rapport with the Service Users. She is caring and compassionate with an indepth knowledge of all aspects of learning disabilities. Vanessa has many skills and is a very good communicator. Vanessa has her levels 2 and 3 in care.

Description:

Kind, caring, compassionate, committed and very calm in nature is the lovely Louise. She has heaps of experience in various caring roles. Louise is proficient in using Makaton and has a good understanding of all aspects of learning disabilities. Louise is currently doing her level 5 in leadership and management.

Roger Jones

Job Title: Support Worker (Night)

Description:

Roger has 13 years experience working in the care sector and has been at Orcadia for over ten years. He clearly loves his job and demonstrates this by always doing a lot more than is expected of him. Roger has a calm and gentle manner and always treats the Service User' with dignity and respect. He has a great sense of fun and enjoys joking with people to create a positive relaxed atmosphere.
Before Roger joined the caring profession he has his own business and is used to problem solving and assessing risks. He has NVQ level 2 and 3 plus many other courses including Mental Health Awareness, Dementia, Administration of Medicines and Diabetes.
Roger is a highly valued part of the team. Roger is now doing his level 5 in management.

Description:

Christine AKA Christabel has over 20 years experience in care. As a Registered Nurse she has previously been Deputy of a 35 bedded Nursing home as well as many other Nursing roles. As well as looking after people Christabel is a great teacher and has taught skills including NVQ's to keen students.
Chris is a hard working and down to earth person who loves animals and people alike. She is open and honest and very caring.
Away from work Christabel enjoys caring for her animals which include dogs, chickens and a cat. Chris loves the outdoors and also enjoys crafts including knitting, sewing and art.

Shay is a bright and kind young man who works on a bank basis with Orcadia. He is a college doing Health and Social Care. His Mum used to work here and Shay and his brother used to visit. A good addition to the Orcadia team.

Description:

Victoria is a lovely caring person and really understands what truly matters in life. She loves nature and crafts. Victoria has some old fashioned hobbies including needle craft. Victoria works for Orcadia on a bank basis and is also a qualified Music Therapist. The service users love it when she brings in her keyboard and they can have a singsong.

Steve Hampson

Job Title: Support Worker

Joined: 2005

Description:

Steve is a highly experienced member of our team. He has worked with adults with learning disabilities for a longtime and is good in challenging situations. Steve works two nights a week at Orcadia and some afternoons. He is a kind family man and loves the outdoors and wildlife. Steve enjoys taking the service users to see his horses and on long country walks. Steve and his wife also look after people at their house.
