Overview

The Review Score of 9 (maximum of 10) for The Brambles Rest Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 7 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for The Brambles Rest Home in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.4 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

Detailed Breakdown

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.643 for The Brambles Rest Home is calculated as follows: ( (58 Excellents x 5) + (22 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 84 Ratings = 4.643

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 4.375 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Brambles Rest Home is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 3.75

    2. Target of 6.4 positive Reviews (32 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 4 Reviews ÷ 6.4 Target = 0.625

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

Staff and management are great, they are always helpful and keep me informed of my mother's conditions. The care that they give my mother is extremely good. Management has always informed me and worked with me to ensure my mother gets the best care available at all times.

My mother, who was in her 90's, was a resident for 2/3 years. Being rather quiet and independent she preferred going to her room rather than "joining in" so having her own space was ideal. She also received newspapers which were delivered by the local newsagent.
Since she developed Alzheimer's she tended to forget things and the manager used to tell us she often enjoyed more than one breakfast - having forgotten she'd already eaten two or three.
We were sad when she suddenly went downhill before Xmas but had no hesitation in requesting that she remained at the Brambles.
We felt quite certain that spending her final days there was preferable to a hospital ward.
She was given excellent attention by staff during End of Life, and then Palliative Care.
The manager supported us all the way through the process, and the local GP and district nurse were frequent visitors to my mother.
We are grateful to all. Even the cleaning lady cheered us daily.
Thank you to everyone, and especially the manager.

The care provided to my mother was very good, any problems got sorted out quickly the staff, in general, acted in a professional manner.
The food was good and varied so I would recommend the Brambles.
The downside to this experience was recovering monies owed back to us after five phone calls and a letter of intent I have still not received payment after almost 3 months. This leaves a sour taste after the previous pleasant experience especially when you are dealing with a bereavement.

Kam Virdee, Manager at The Brambles Rest Home responded to this review on 29 Jan 2018:

Thank you for your feedback and all issues have now been resolved.

My mother who is 97, has been a resident for 15 months. She was very poorly on admission but with prompt attention by the manager and GP's she regained her former health and was able to join other residents in the lounge and for meals.
She is always treated with dignity and is clean and well dressed. The staff are always attentive to her needs and are very kind and caring.
There are a few activities at the home and I know the home is trying to rectify this and have more permanent activities in place.
But I do notice the difference in residents when their minds are stimulated with song and crafts etc.

Thank you for your feedback and comment.

The Brambles have given my aunt a safe environment to live in and the care she has received has been superb. We are always treated with a friendly smile when we ring the door bell and nothing is too much trouble for anyone.

The home is well run and we are confident that mother is safe and well cared for. Staff are well motivated and friendly and well aware of the needs of residents. The building is well maintained and welcoming.
Contact with local GP's is good. Necessary treatment happens very quickly compared to trying to get a visit at home.
We have been promptly contacted about important issues - usually with steps already taken to resolve them, all of which have worked.

The staff at the Brambles are very welcoming, professional and give you complete peace of mind. My father-in-law spent a week on respite care and he enjoyed his stay which was his first experience of a care home. I highly recommend The Brambles Rest Home, lovely home and in a beautiful setting.
