I would like to say a heartfelt thank you to the management and staff for all their hard work, dedication and above all the loving care shown to Dad over the last four years plus. He initially went in to Elderthorpe for respite care and after two weeks of being there, he requested to stay permanently.
Elderthorpe took a huge weight off of my shoulders knowing that Dad was cared for, loved and kept warm and safe. Their care for him was exemplary, I certainly would not have managed to get through without their unfailing support. Staff have been so supportive to us both and over the years Dad and myself came to regard them all as family and even though Dad is no longer with us, I still continue to visit the wonderful staff. I was asked today if it is difficult for me to return now that Dad is gone, I could reply honestly by saying 'No, not at all, it's like coming home'. Thank you for going above and beyond for Dad and myself, you are all amazing caring people.

My mum first went to live in Elderthorpe in April 2021 and she recently passed away mid-September. In the time she lived there, she was cared for by the most amazing caring staff. Putting my mum in Elderthorpe was the best decision I made for her for the time she was there I can not fault the care and
support she was given.
On the 18th of August 2023 she was out on end-of-life care and the care she received was second to none, it was Mum's wish not to go to hospital and this was honoured by the staff. In the 4 weeks prior to her death, her dignity was kept intact and I was supported at a most distressing time, I was kept informed of everything that was happening and the staff explained step by step what was happening and were always there to offer comfort to myself and my daughter. They became closer than family to us both. My daughter was with mum when she passed and was supported during that time by the manager who was with her in Mum's room. They have continued to support us.

Inspection ratings
We rate most services according to how safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led they are, using four levels:
Outstanding - the service is performing exceptionally well.
Good - the service is performing well and meeting our expectations.
Requires improvement - the service isn't performing as well as it should and we have told the service how it must improve.
Inadequate - the service is performing badly and we've taken enforcement action against the provider of the service.
No rating/under appeal/rating suspended - there are some services which we can't rate, while some might be under appeal from the provider. Suspended ratings are being reviewed by us and will be published soon.
Ticks and crosses
We don't rate every type of service. For services we haven't rated we use ticks and crosses to show whether we've asked them to take further action or taken enforcement action against them.
There's no need for the service to take further action. If this service has not had a CQC inspection since it registered with us, our judgement may be based on our assessment of declarations and evidence supplied by the service.
The service must make improvements.
At least one standard in this area was not being met when we inspected the service and we have taken enforcement action.
