I found the standard of care, across all areas, at Good Companions to be outstanding. Residents are always considered to be living in 'their own home' whilst there and treated accordingly. I consider Good Companions to be an example of excellence in the field of residential care. All staff demonstrate
respect, kindness and concern for all of their residents and also for family of residents. The staff team are led by an inspirational manager who combines professionalism with compassion. Good Companions deserves the highest possible rating.

I understand why my mother said "I cannot think of anywhere I'd rather be" when she was describing her life at Good Companions. She felt so happy, content & safe. Good Companions enabled her to keep her independence. I cannot thank the staff enough for their professionalism, care, kindness & love given
to my mother and for the reassurance this gave me. The staff are led by an outstanding manager who leads by example. I'm so grateful for all of the practical support & kindness given to me throughout the years my mother was a resident & especially during the last week of her life.

Thank you for the great review of Good Companions I am very proud of the team in the home and with this review shows their hard work and dedication shines through to everyone that comes in to Good Companions and to all the families like yourself that also becomes part of the Good Companions. The staff here always know that when they came to work it is always the residents home and not theirs which again shows when mother would use the phrase I cannot think of anywhere id rather be.

My mother was resident at The Good Companions in Silloth from December 2023 to May 2024. The care and support that my Mum received from the manager and his team was outstanding. The home is very well equipped and my mum was always given every possible aid to make her as comfortable as possible. The
food was all home cooked and she enjoyed it very much. There was always lots of entertainment going on in the home. My mother sadly passed away due to the deterioration of her dementia, but again the care and support given to both my mother and us as a family was amazing.

Mom has been a resident at Good Companions since August 2023, and we cannot praise them enough.
The standard of care that mom receives is phenomenal and it is delivered with such attention to detail and compassion. The Management and staff go above and beyond in ensuring the residents are treated with
the utmost dignity and respect and we as a family cannot thank them enough for everything they do for mom and for us. The amount of activities put together are brilliant and changes each month, it's great to see mom enjoying the music and dancing.

The whole process of mom going to a care home has been an emotional one, but everyone at Good Companions has made the journey smoother and has given us as a family reassurance and peace.
With excellent management and excellent staff, we highly recommend The Good Companions!

Thank you for your kind comments, our residents and their families are very important to us all and feedback like this shows that the staff's hard work is been seen. Good Companions finds that activities in house and the people from outside are very important for the resident's stimulation and remain active. We have increased these over the next two months leading up to Christmas all the activities are on the Good Companion web page for more details please see.

The standard of care provided is exemplary, everything is done with the resident's best interest at the fore and with dignity and respect. The way staff, regardless of role interact with the residents is a pleasure to witness. On the odd occasion when there is an issue (everyone is human) there is complete
openness and honesty, which is a credit to the staff and in particular the manager, who is very approachable. There is a good range of activities/entertainment provided, and the food is of a high standard. I would highly recommend The Good Companions.

The perfect environment for my mum who has dementia. They made her feel very welcome and she was very happy to be there. It was her first respite stay and I think she will be returning as she was very settled and in such a friendly environment. Thank you.

My husband was at the home for 16 months and the care and attention he received during this time was exceptional. The owner and all the staff were very professional, kind and caring getting to know him and also me. There was a good variety of activities both in the home and outside for those able to
go out into the community. I got to feel as though they were my extended family and they supported both me and my husband to an exceptional standard. I would thoroughly recommend Good Companions to anyone looking for care for their loved ones.

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.108)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.108) out of 10 for The Good Companions (Cumbria) Ltd is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.1 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.967 for The Good Companions (Cumbria) Ltd is calculated as follows: ( (58 Excellents x 5) + (2 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 60 Ratings = 4.967
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.141 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Good Companions (Cumbria) Ltd is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 39 registered maximum number of service users is 7.8. 5 Positive Reviews ÷ 7.8 = 0.641
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
