The welcome from the staff towards myself and my grandson is outstanding and warm and when it was my brothers 60th birthday the staff went all out to make this a special day for Mark and the overall care he receives is amazing and I cannot fault the staff and the place

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My wife has been a resident of Elpha Lodge for several years now. I have always found the care and dedication of the staff excellent. They have created a home for my wife in which she is happy and contented to be in. This is of great comfort to me. As well as looking after my wife, the home is very
very welcoming to both me and our family. We are made to feel welcome to visit her whenever it suits our circumstances. I too feel a part of the home, not just my wife. This is hugely important as its become a large part of my life, and will continue to be so in future. The atmosphere they create for us is homely, relaxed and caring. Looking at the medical side of the home, I'm confident that any issues my wife has are dealt with promptly and professionally. The expertise of in-house staff, and the use of the local health service professionals when required, is good. I feel my wife is well cared for. I'm pleased to have such a home close to where we live so my wife is still close at hand.

My brother has been a resident of Elpha Lodge for many years now and they have always cared for his welfare and provided him with a warm safe environment and good meals. The manager is always available to discuss anything if needed.

I am very pleased with the care my relative receives at Elpha Lodge. It is his decision not to take part in activities but he is still very content. He really enjoys his meals and there is always someone popping into his room to chat.
Staff are always very friendly and welcoming. Communication from
the manager and her colleagues is outstanding.

Review from Kathleen G (Mother of Resident) published on 3 March 2026 Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My son was in a previous home which was unsuitable for him. In September 2025 he was moved to Elpha Lodge which has been a God Send.
My son is Downs Dementia and now suffers from paralysis and blindness as the signals from the brain have stopped signalling, he is uncommunitive and doesn't know us
anymore .
The care and professionalism of staff at Elpha Lodge is second to none, Jackie the manageress keeps me informed on everything thats happening with Stephen and sends me photos of him engaging in the activities which warms my heart, I felt really guilty of having to put Stephen into care but now I'm so relieved about the staff and their kindness to him.
What I really like is even though Stephen doesn't know what's going on they always include him , he isn't shut away in his room he has plenty of company and interactions with other clients.
I thank all the management and Staff truly happy with all my sons care
Reply from Jackie Wallace, Registered Manager at Elpha LodgeThank you so much for your lovely review. Stephen is a pleasure to look after.

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My brother is very happy in the home, they give him the necessary care and attention he needs. Staff are friendly, respectful, willing to assist both residents and visitors, organise activities, outings, special events.
He has a lovely spacious room with his own private bathroom with plenty of space
to negotiate his disabilities, I couldn't wish for him to be in a better place and I hope that if my circumstances require 24 hour care I get to go somewhere like here.
My brother's needs are catered for, if he's poorly it has been noted straight away and the staff are quick to seek medical attention, taking him to appointments all over the north east. My brother has a good relationship with all the staff, including the cleaners who pop in and pass the time of day with him, which is lovely because his visits from friends and family have slowly dwindled. My brother particularly likes the food, all home cooked and a wide variety on offer.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.575)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.575) out of 10 for Elpha Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.975 for Elpha Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (79 Excellents x 5) + (2 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 81 Ratings = 4.975
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.6 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Elpha Lodge is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.6
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 24 registered maximum number of service users is 4.8, which has been reached with 7 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
