Mum moved into Bethany in Sept 2023 and immediately felt at home. By day 2 she was out of her room and mixing with people which she had not done since pre covid.
She enjoyed the care and support all the way through her time there.
In April, while in hospital with a chest infection, she was diagnosed
with advanced lung cancer that had already spread to other organs.
Without hesitation the management team agreed for mum to return home where they would care for her right to the end.
During her final weeks they stepped up the support more and more.
As the illness progressed, they, with the support a medical team, did everything to keep her comfortable, calm and pain free.
When she finally passed away the care did not end. They respectfully prepared her in advance of the funeral directors collection.
This was unexpected, specially when they told me it was something they wanted to do for her.
These people will forever have my respect and admiration for the job they do.

Mum had a stroke early march 25 had was hospitalised for over 3weeks the stroke affected her speech and swallowing.
Bethany dealt with her GP Paramedics and hospitalisation sending with her a red bag full of all the essentials needed for an initial stay and also lots of paperwork giving mum's personal
details her medical history care needs etc which was positively commented Aron by hospital staff as really helpful.
During mums stay Bethany kept in touch and even put themselves out to expedite her discharge.
Upon her return they have done everything possible to settle her back in and help with her new food requirements.
Thanks Bethany above and beyond again

The staff are fantastic and make the care home feel like home for my father. The rooms are very nice and he really enjoys all the food plus the tea and biscuits. There are plenty of activities to keep my dad busy and healthy.

Dad has been at Bethany Residential Home for nearly 12 months now and the change in him is amazing.
He is stimulated daily with organised daily activities, which he loves to get involved with which lifts his mood. The management are very approachable and always get back to you in a timely manner to
discuss things. They constantly assess the residents and are always looking for ways to improve their quality of life. The level of care is second to none. There are always carers around to chat to him. The health care he gets is amazing, as soon as the carers feel something is not quite right they act on it straight away. The home is very clean and tidy and the rooms are spotlessly clean.
The staff work tirelessly to make sure every resident is cared for and individual needs are met. Dad mentioned he likes a non-alcoholic beer from time to time and the home went out and got some for him, which made him very happy.
I highly recommend this care home to anyone who is looking for residential care for a loved one.

My mum has been asked to leave Bethany. This has left me with an enormous problem as Bethany was a 5 minute drive for me and now I have to travel about 40 minutes each way to see her. I have a husband with dementia so this has had an heavy toll as well as upsetting.
The staff were unable to cope with
my mum's state of mind. She doesn't have dementia and has full understanding of everything that is said. She hasn't lost her her hearing and has no other medical issues other than a demanding personality which has been exaggerated by the recent stroke.
We found that they weren't very kind to her and often had snide remarks. I can understand that she was difficult and so the staff were struggling to cope but I do feel that the staff ganged up on her and requested her removal. I think with a little more understanding and laying out of some ground rules to my mum this situation could have been avoided. This has left a nasty taste and so I'm afraid I cant recommend this home. Sorry

Reply from Robert Phelps, Responsible Individual at Bethany Residential Home

Thank you for your feedback. I am very sorry you feel this way. Unfortunately, sometimes we are unable to cater for individuals needs as they worsen to an advanced stage. After several reviews and discussions with Mum, yourselves and medical advice we did have to make the decision for Mum to find more suitable accommodation. I'm sorry that other local homes were also unable to cater for her needs and that the nearest specialist care centre was further than you would like to travel.

My mum has been a resident at Bethany for more than 2 years and she is very happy there.
The staff are amazing. They are kind, friendly and understanding. I like how they want to know more about Mum and us, her family and I like how they keep us informed if there are any concerns about Mum's well-being.
The cleanliness of Bethany is first class. The communal room is lovely and bright with plenty of seating and different areas for the residents to be able to relax. It is lovely to see the residents interacting with one another.
Prior to moving into Bethany Mum lived alone in a big house and she definitely missed seeing people. I am so happy that she is in this wonderful care home where she is well looked after, safe and happy.

Lovely care home with caring friendly staff. Management always approachable and available. Staff are reliable and some have worked there for a number of years so care is consistent to residents.
Feels like a home from home.

When the day arrives to entrust the care of your mother to residential care you are naturally concerned if you have made the right decision. I can honestly say that introducing Mum to Bethany was the best decision we could have made. Mum’s physical, mental and general wellbeing have improved dramatically
in the first three months of her being there, resulting in a positive knock on effect for us knowing that she is safe and so well cared for. Care staff are wonderful, always friendly and upbeat. Management and nursing staff excel by keeping us updated with health test results and medication reviews. This is a family-run and managed home, meaning that decisions are made and actioned without red tape and delays which sets an exemplary pathway that corporate establishments are unable to follow. The level of love and interaction from the staff and owners is beyond our expectations and I cannot thank them enough. A heartfelt thank you to all who make Bethany such a special place.

My mum has been here for two years. The level of care and attention has been phenomenal. The manager and the team show great respect to the residents. Plenty of activities. Sometimes feel that the home could do with more staff.

Staff are excellent, nothing is ever any trouble for them. My mother-in-law is very happy at Bethany. She has been very well looked after since she arrived and getting stronger every day, as quite frail when arrived. Enjoys the church service on a Sunday.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.558)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.558) out of 10 for Bethany Residential Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 10 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.658 for Bethany Residential Home is calculated as follows: ( (98 Excellents x 5) + (11 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) + (6 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 120 Ratings = 4.658

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Bethany Residential Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 36 registered maximum number of service users is 7.2, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
