  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.1 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.5 for The Pines Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (6 Excellents x 5) + (6 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 12 Ratings = 4.5

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

    1. 3 = 3

    2. Target of 7.6 positive Reviews (38 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 1 Reviews ÷ 7.6 Target = 0.132

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

Reviewer Connection to The Pines Care Home

  • Wife of Resident/Service User

My husband has been a resident at The Pines since January 2017. He suffers from picks disease - a type of Alzheimer's.
As a family, we can only thank the management, nursing and care staff for their kindness and support.
My husband has been treated with care and respect. The staff initiate activities and are aware of his likes and dislikes. The outdoor space at The Pines has been a great asset, as my husband is not aware that he is continued.

Gwen Maurice

Job Title: Home Manager, Operations Director

Description:

Gwen was born and bred in Wales and still lives locally – her native tongue is also Welsh. Gwen and husband Dafydd have 4 kids and an incredible 9 and half grandchildren!

Gwen is very creative and always seems to have one craft project or another on the go. She loves the outdoors too and loves telling her grandchildren about the big wide world. Recognising trees, plants and flowers as well as birds, animals, mountains and rivers is something Gwen is very keen to pass on to the little ones, so that they can enjoy it all too.

As well as walking and climbing many of the peaks in the Snowdonia Range, Gwen and her husband have also covered many of the trails on their mountain bikes. They are certainly adventurous – they have also explored many of the area’s quarries and caves! Before their arrival in Llandecwyn they owned a country house hotel, where Gwen was able to utilise her training as a chef to be the head chef at the hotel. Gwen loves to serve up high quality food and complement each dish with the right glass of fine wine.

Before moving to Llandecwyn they owned a country house hotel. Gwen is a qualified chef and was the main chef at the hotel. Good food is important to Gwen, as well as glass of fine wine to compliment the dish.

Gwen initially joined the Madog Care Group as a chef, working at the Madog care home in 2008.

The role of catering manager became available in 2009 and Gwen grasped the opportunity and took over the day to day running of both the Madog and Pines kitchens. She set about elevating the hygiene levels to the highest possible score with the Food Standards Agency.

In 2011, Gwen then became facilities manager – covering both homes and continued that upward trend when she eventually became outright manager of the Pines care home.

Gwen champions the cause of equality and it has enabled her to become the hands on leader she is. Through people management skills and developing good attitudes, her team continually achieve and maintain very high standards.

As manager, Gwen frequently undertakes training to ensure she remains on top of her role as well as being proactive in terms of new legislations and clinical governance.

Residents in the homes and the families that visit them should be confident and pleased with Gwen’s approach to health and well-being. Ensuring that the interests of each and every resident is met and the staff that are entrusted to care for them are given all of the appropriate tools to do their jobs well as is of the utmost importance.

Gwen strives for continual improvement, setting goals to reach even higher standards and believes that her and her highly qualified team are able to take the Pines Care Home and Madog Care Group in general, from strength to strength.

Job Title: Responsible Individual, Managing Director

Description:

Andy is native to North Wales and indeed his wife and children are fluent in the local tongue (Welsh!) Andy isn’t quite as fluent as his family are but does know a little bit (‘Tipyn Bach’). When he isn’t working, he simply likes to relax or spend time out and about with the family – which has just been increased by one member – Max the cockapoo! He also likes to keep fit and enjoys cycling.

In 2002 he became the financial accountant for a care home group based in Shropshire and was part of the team that saw the group grow from a solitary home to eight in just a few years.

In 2005, Andy took up a similar position at the Madog Care Group and within two years had moved into the role of Responsible Individual – a role that is all encompassing in terms of the home – health & safety, staffing, resources and of course finance.

A management buyout took place in 2012 as Andy took ownership of the company and the care homes have flourished ever since.

Despite his background in finance, Andy very much puts the residents first on his priority list and he encourages the rest of the staff to maintain this attitude. With an informal outlook to his management position, Andy is very friendly and approachable.
