Brian was refusing to eat and near death. He needed food that he could hold in his hand and that he really liked. But he ate it really slowly. I managed to get him started on bananas. it would take 2 hours to get an insufficient amount of calories into him. He has lost most of his muscle mass. But
we all persevered and the staff took note of what I managed to get him to eat every day. They then added some fortisips to the bananas and Brian started drinking quite a bit of milk. They chased that success and he ended up eating like a horse. Then after 3 months of not moving from his bed I got him to sit up and rock back and forward to exercise his stomach muscles which had done nothing for 3 months. Then he managed to get onto a chair by himself At this point I showed the Lena the manager and she got a massive zimmer frame and got him to stand up and walk with physio. When I heard about it, that was one of the best moments of my life.
Reply from Lena Rehan, Home Manager at George Potter HouseThank you for sharing such a powerful and heartfelt review. Stories like this truly reflect the compassion, dedication, and perseverance shown by everyone involved in supporting the resident during an incredibly fragile time. When the resident was receiving end-of-life care, our priority was dignity, comfort, and responding to his individual needs. Our person-centred approach, combined with close collaboration with healthcare professionals, led to progress that once seemed impossible. Seeing the resident move from being bedbound to sitting out, and eventually standing and walking with support was an extraordinary moment for all of us. It reflects not only skilled care, but the belief that every resident deserves hope, encouragement, and the opportunity to achieve their best possible quality of life. Thank you for trusting our team and for being such an important part of this journey. Moments like these remind us why our home is built on compassion, teamwork, and dignified care.

The home is being slowly refurbished so yes, it may seem outdated to some, however, my relative moved from a luxury home to George Potter House and I couldn't be happier. Let's face it what really matters is the care and approachable proactive management that will deal with issues if they arise and
George Potter has an amazing team and management. Any issues are dealt with promptly and improvements are made immediately. The new lounge looks great and I am so happy it has a large accessible garden.

Positive.
Staff quickly respond to all issues. Most staff treated my Dad with dignity. Receptionist staff welcoming & informative. Management was very present & proactive in improving service & staff practice. My father's health & appearance improved greatly whilst at George Potter House. Brilliant
BBQ for residents, family & staff. Food sometimes difficult for my Dad to chew.
Negative - Furnishings very tired looking, a lot of staff changes/lack of transparency in billing & package of care.

I'm delighted to hear that our team treated your dad with dignity, and that our reception team were welcoming and informative. It's especially reassuring to know your father's health and appearance improved while with us, and I'm glad you enjoyed the BBQ.I'm sorry for the areas that didn't meet expectations. We now have a new management team in place focused on staff retention and wellbeing. I hope the meeting we've arranged will help to address the points you've mentioned and provide a clear view of our actions and timelines. We've planned a rolling refurbishment of bedrooms and communal areas, with refreshed dcor and furnishings to improve comfort for our residents. I will update you more in details when we meet. Kind regards,

My husband and I visited my sister Zohra on December 10, 11 and 12. Living in France, we can, unfortunately, only come 3 or 4 times a year. We first received an extremely warm welcome from the entire team, especially as the 10th was the day when George Potter House offered Christmas lunch to its residents
and their families. Since our last visit in June, we have noticed enormous progress in the way residents are looked after, in the quality of meals and snacks, in the care provided to everyone and in the cleanliness of the house in general. My sister benefited from a renovated room and is cared for by extremely attentive staff. We send our very sincere congratulations to the management and its entire team. We wish them a very happy New Year 2025 and thank them again with all our hearts.

I would just like to congratulate all at George Potter House for the wonderful Christmas lunch and entertainment that was put on for the residents today. It was a joy to see the residents and staff interacting and having a good time. Well done! When my stepfather was admitted to George Potter House
it was for palliative care and he was deemed end of life. I have to commend the care, support and medical treatment that he has received in the past few months which has given him a renewed vigour and he is no longer bed-bound. The manager and all the staff at George Potter House are providing an excellent 5-star service to all the residents.
Reply from Juliet Gallop, HM at George Potter HouseThank you very much for your kind words and we are so glad you enjoyed it. Our aim was to bring everyone together at such a special time and to see the joy on people's faces and the fun that was had, I think we succeeded. Have a wonderful Christmas and we hope to see you at the next event.

In for respite. He has dementia and it's the first time in 8 years he has been away. He loved the activities and I feel he was kept quite busy. Everything in the room was fixed and mended and the management was above and beyond what we expected. We will see you again.

My father was in a care home prior to this one. My father almost lost his life due to staff and management negligence.
I can proudly say today my father is taken care of like a human being. Staff not only amazing at what they do but they go the extra mile to make residents comfortable and happy.
Management
is on point. George Potter House is managed well you can simply tell by the quality of service residents receive.
George Potter House should be an example to many.

My lovely mum was a resident at George Potter House from November 2020 until September 2022.
My mum was so well looked after by all the staff at George Potter House. It was a hard decision to make for Mum but I'm so glad she was at this care home. The staff are lovely and kind. Mum was happy which
was so important. The carers are amazing. One carer, in particular, who my mum liked so much. She went above and beyond at all times. All the carers are fantastic.
It's so important to be treated kindly and with respect regardless of what's wrong with a person. The carers did this from day one.
I was kept informed of everything I needed to be kept informed about. I called on a regular basis at all different hours and that was reassuring for me. I visited Mum every week and Mum always looked well looked after and happy.
Fantastic care from when my mum arrived until the end of her life. I'm so grateful for all the care they showed my mum.
They are angels in disguise.

I went to visit my husbands step mother and the lady on the desk was extremely helpful, especially as we had to ring as couldn’t locate the home. The place had a good feel about it. The staff we passed in the corridors were pleasant and greeted us. The home was very clean with no trace of odour. We
found the patient to be well cared for with fresh hair. The room was compact but everything in it tidy and organised. When we left the receptionist advised us where we could get refreshments. Nothing was too much trouble for her and she was happy to chat about my step mother. My first impression of George Potter House was of a good environment with highly dedicated and approachable staff.

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.313)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.313) out of 10 for George Potter House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 12 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 12 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.643 for George Potter House is calculated as follows: ( (107 Excellents x 5) + (20 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 140 Ratings = 4.643
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.67 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for George Potter House is based on 12 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.8
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 69 registered maximum number of service users is 13.8. 12 Positive Reviews ÷ 13.8 = 0.87
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
