I found it a very heartfelt place where my mother I felt was safe and well cared for. She was well fed, the staff were accommodating, friendly, tolerant and capable of the difficult level of care given.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the home and am thoroughly satisfied.

When my aunt was admitted in there she couldn't feed herself and with the dementia she couldn't have any sort of conversation she looked so unwell. I haven't visited her for a few weeks and when I walked in today 1/9/2025 she looked like a different person she was feeding herself and she was having
a little conversation with the staff, who are all brilliant nothing is to much trouble. I was so upset and scared about leaving her in there but I needn't have worried. Even the food was lovely she was eating salmon mashed potatoes and cabbage and she eat every bit of it. There is always plenty of staff about to assist you with any problems. I am completely satisfied that she is getting the best treatment.

The team at Folkestone Nursing Home are wonderful. Since my mum was admitted in June, she has completely changed for the better. She is eating more, speaking more. The team get her out of bed every day and she is no longer bedbound. Members of my family have also commented on how my mum has improved.

In 2019 my mother entered the nursing home. She was then more alert, responsive to stimuli and involved in activities. We were all better informed about her activities by the previous activities coordinator who sent us picture and videos of her engaging in painting parties and dance at present. I do
not know what she is doing (if anything) or how she is spending her time. Her dementia has progressed so she is withdrawn and confused, I would also like to see if she is also having any good time. The premises have been improved in those years, walls painted, drawings added, new chairs provided. The staff are approachable, informed keep to help and caring. She looks at ease, better looked after than we could possibly do.

On the 11th of December, my aunt was placed into the care home by Newham Council and the reviews were quite mixed. On visiting the care home I was introduced to the management and care team. Having been to the home on many occasions now I can say this is a first call home. Everybody is there to help
and has approached me on every visit offering help and support. A first-class care home I would highly recommend it.

My friend was very happy to be there. The staff were very attentive towards him. Every time I visited him, he was clean, shaven, and smart with clean clothes. Plus his bedding was changed regularly. His clothes were always washed, pressed and put neatly in his wardrobe. The staff always tried to encourage
him to eat and if he didn't like certain foods, they would always try to find some alternative. The staff were always smiling and would give him a little wave when they went passed his room - only a small gesture, but, this made him feel happy and at home. If I had any questions to ask the staff about his medical care, they were always happy to give me a complete answer. The staff were very caring, attentive and very helpful. I felt he was safe and happy. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend, Folkestone Nursing Home.

Up until August 2024 this place was unsatisfactory. The present manager started in August and things have slowly started to improve. Obviously there are still improvements to be made, and I was at one time going to move my father from there, but owing to the new manager overseeing a lot of mistakes
made in the past, I'm allowing him to stay.

I am so pleased that mother is no longer a resident at this "care" facility. My mum spent just over three years here, in which time there was very little access to any activities due to there being no coordinator for the majority of the time. The residents just sat around in a TV room all day with very
little interaction. The place was dingy and shabby as well. On numerous occasions, I would find my mum soiled and in discomfort. I also found untaken medication in her bed or on the floor. As there was no appropriate outdoor space. My mum didn't go outside for the whole time she resided there. Eventually, my mum had numerous falls and no one could explain how this happened. My mother has brittle bones. A male nurse was seen praying in my mum's room with his bag of clothes. My mum doesn't speak. Both the local authority and the CQC investigated and chose to believe the manager's lies, he denied everything. There is no CCTV. I pity anyone who has a relative or loved one living there.

Current Review Score: 9.0 (9.019)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.0 (9.019) out of 10 for Folkestone Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.2 out of 5 from 11 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.219 for Folkestone Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (75 Excellents x 5) + (32 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) + (13 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 128 Ratings = 4.219
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.8 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Folkestone Nursing Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 50 registered maximum number of service users is 10. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 10 = 0.9
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
