My husband was a resident at Barton Place Nursing Home for three years. During that time, being a very difficult resident, he received superb care and supervision. Nothing was too much trouble. My husbamd enjoyed being in the garden and all the outdoor space. He enjoyed the various activities which
were organised. I cannot fault Barton Place!

Absolutely the worst home. Lack of empathy, and care. No strong leadership. Manager lacks compassion and understanding of residents. Lack of English-speaking staff. Poor infection control. Too many unexplained injuries. Diabolical, how this is still open to care for residents is beyond belief.

Reply from Samantha Crook, operations manager at Barton Place Nursing Home

Thank you for taking the time to bring this to our attention, we take all feedback very seriously, and we are very sorry that you felt a lack of empathy and care at the home whilst your friend was a resident, our aim is to provide the best possible care to those we support, and it is something we take very seriously. We acknowledged there were failings and worked on them and progressed whilst working in partnership with our Regulatory Authority and Local Authorities, and we will continue to do this and strive to develop the home and the Barton Place Team to deliver outstanding quality of care and improve our service user's experience wherever possible. Again, I can only apologise for your experience and I know this was some time ago, but if you wish I am available for a call to discuss in more detail, so we can better understand your experience.

Dad has been made so welcome from day one. The staff are amazing. From kitchen staff to carers to management. They help with every situation. The food is very good and well-balanced diet. The home have activities weekly. The home is lovely and clean and is being upgraded by the current management. I
have been very surprised as I wasn't sure this was right for Dad yet. However, he has settled very well and I don't even feel guilty when I leave him there. The best thing for him and he's lucky to have such a good home.

Barton Place provides a safe environment for my brother with staff readily available to help with his specific challenging needs. Having just attended a relatives' meeting I understand that access will be available to his Care Plan and the daily log which will be very useful and will keep us informed.
In addition, with a new Activities Manager just started, there are plans to ensure that any activity is all-inclusive. My brother joined Barton Place in October 2019 and the Manager has gone out of her way to make sure that everything possible is being done to help him settle.

My Aunt came to Barton Place on 1st November 2019. She had previously been at one hospital for three weeks and another hospital for three weeks, when it was decided that she needed twenty-four-hour nursing care due to her fractured femur and her 3/4 pressure sore. She had also lost a lot of weight.
At
first, my Aunt refused to eat and drink and thus continued to lose weight. She was put on supplements and gradually started to eat puréed foods and drink well. She is now gaining a little weight. Her pressure sore is almost healed thanks to the care and dedication of the staff.
I have always found the staff to be caring and kind and the home is always spotless.
The two large lounges have been decorated in the last week or two which is a big improvement.

Mum has received a good level of care during her stay here. The staff are very caring and looked after her well. They made sure she was comfortable and took her outside to the garden when she wanted, as she loved to be in the fresh air during the summer. The nursing staff were regular vigilant and kept
me informed of any issues that arose. I was always made very welcome as a visitor. As a quiet person, mum was rather reserved and kept herself to hersself but a number of staff became rather attached to her during her stay, which made her feel at home.

Barton Place cares for its residents with very caring staff who do much more than the basics. My husband is always clean and neat, even if he objects to personal care. His room is always clean. The staff seem to anticipate his needs. The food is plentiful and suitable. I am always warmly welcomed.

My father required an emergency admission. I found the staff to be compassionate, kind, patient and interested in everything they could do to make my father's stay as good as it could be. They ordered in the specific food he wanted and took time and effort to understand his needs. I was very impressed.

I have found that the care home Barton Place always offers a very friendly greeting on arrival. Who ever it is knows where my sister is and takes us to her. The staff are very professional and make sure that if there is a problem I am contacted immediately. The reviews are done in a very professional
way, giving me explanations when needed. My sister has had very good care in Barton Place and I am very satisfied with that.

A very warm welcome every time we visit, we visited for my grandfathers birthday yesterday and the staff could not have been better. They made his birthday special, a cake was made, the room was decorated and even though he didn't know it was his birthday it brought a big smile to his face. He is very
well cared for at Barton Place, the staff take a keen interest to get to know their residents.

The staff were excellent in every way. The level of care is superb. Nothing is too much trouble. The culture is kind, caring and personal - this is due to passionate staff and strong, kind leadership with appropriate training but most of all nurtured kindness - please continue with this.
There is so
much to do (for staff) and all is done with a smile to a high standard and families never feel rushed.

Barton Place is a welcoming home to all its residents and their visitors. There is a real family atmosphere. The staff are amazing without exception. They show a genuine care for the residents and do their utmost to meet not only their physical needs but also provide emotional support and comfort. I
would not hesitate to recommend this home to others.

Although the home has gone through a difficult period due to turnover of staff and more importantly change of managers, there has been a distinct improvement in the services supplied. The care has vastly improved since the CQC inspection in September. The manager has installed a team of nurses and carers
who really care about the standards expected of them by relatives of the residents. There have been hiccups in the past, but now the home is a much better and happier unit.

Some minor ailments not always picked up by the carers and has to be brought to their notice, but generally, they are good. Management always ready to listen and act accordingly. After going through a sticky patch with many staff changes (both carers and management) seems to be more settled and providing
good service.

Current Review Score: 6.1 (6.119)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 6.1 (6.119) out of 10 for Barton Place Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 3.0 out of 5 from 2 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.1 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 3.000 for Barton Place Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (12 Excellents x 5) + (12 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 24 Ratings = 3

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.119 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barton Place Nursing Home is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 = 3

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 42 registered maximum number of service users is 8.4. 1 Positive Reviews ÷ 8.4 = 0.119

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Triinu

Triinu Poulter

Job Title: Operations Manager

My 27-year nursing career has been very colourful. Back in my home country Estonia, I worked in postoperative units for Vascular and Cancer surgery. Later on, I joined the Estonian Army and worked on this path for 4.5 years. After going to reserve I started to work in a Mental Health Hospital in the acute ward. In 2012 I moved to England with my family and started to work in a Dementia Nursing Home. I discovered a passion for looking after people with Dementia, and studied in a variety of ways how to look after those suffering from Dementia in the most person-centred way possible. Day to day in Barton Place I’m looking after the clinical and operational side of our beautiful home.
