My husband spent the last 6 weeks of his life at Halwill Manor. I had always dreaded him having to go into a home however at Halwill he was surrounded by loving care and kindness. The Staff were always smiling and happy to help , nothing seemed to be too much trouble. They were amazingly kind and supportive
of both myself and my husband and there were always cheery greetings from everyone when I visited. I cannot praise them enough, they made my husband's final weeks as comfortable and happy as they could be and I will always be so grateful for that. If I ever have need of a care home myself Halwill Manor would be my only choice.

I couldn't have asked for a lovelier place for my dear mother to have been looked after in her last month or more on this earth. Every single member who works at Halwill Manor Home has the most wonderful way of making everybody feel special even the guests as they all really do care. I noticed immediately
how happy and willing everybody was as nothing was too much trouble for anybody. They really do care at Halwill Manor and it's so well kept in hygiene and cleanliness. We as a family, myself my brothers and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very impressed. We thank you for all your care given to our Mother grandmother and grandmother thank you all.

Although sadly my mother only had five months at Halwill Manor, they were the best five months she had had in a long time. What a caring, lovely bunch of staff. No matter what role they played in the home, you could tell they all cared passionatley. It is a small, well run family business which I believe
makes a huge difference.
Although I had reservations about Mum going into a nursing home, I couldn't have been so wrong. She came out of her shell in no time and was very happy.

My husband was a resident at Halwill for 11 months. After he settled in I do believe he was happy and was certainly well cared for by everyone. I was able to feel happy knowing I had done the right thing by choosing Halwill. I had contact with the staff regularly and was able to visit when I could.
The atmosphere here is that of a caring family and I would highly recommend this home to anyone.

My friend always looks so good, very smart. She is always very happy.
The staff all of them are always smiling and cheerful. I couldn't fault any of them. The manager always makes a point to come and say hello.
I would be very happy to move in.

Our Dad was discharged from hospital but was too frail and poorly to come home, so went into Halwill Manor Nursing Home. Although he was only there for 5 weeks before he died the care he received was second to none. His room and bed were always spotlessly clean, warm and comfortable. But what impressed
the family most was the wonderfully kind and caring staff that looked after him. They really couldn’t do enough for him and always treated him with kindness, patience and respect. The residents all seem to be treated as individuals and their own tastes and interests catered for. The day dad died my mum, sister and I were with him and the staff were so kind and supportive of us at that sad time. We are very grateful for the compassion shown to our lovely dad and us as a family.

My wife was looked after at Halwill Manor for four and a half years and I couldn't have asked for a more caring or loving environment. Although she could no longer do anything for herself nor, indeed, understand what was going on, she was as happy as she could be and was constantly smiling and pleased
to see anyone.

My mother moved to Halwill Manor in July 2022 until her death in January 2023, I found the home to be very caring, helpful and sympathetic to my my mother's needs in her state of advanced dementia. The staff were all very considerate and helped make my mother's final days as comfortable as possible.
I have a great deal of gratitude to the home for the care they gave her.

It was a very difficult decision for us to put Mum in a home but after several falls and ensuing hospital visits we decided we had no option. It was extremely difficult to choose a home because we could not visit because of Covid restrictions and our decision was made from talking to staff at Halwill
Manor and the help and friendliness we received from them over the telephone. This was excellent and stood out from other establishments we contacted. This level of care continued throughout her stay of nearly two years. She enjoyed the numerous activities they provided and we were able to regularly speak to her on the telephone and visit when restrictions allowed. We couldn't wish for more.

My husband entered Halwill Manor Nursing Home in November 2020 until his death on the 12th of November this year (2022). Throughout his stay he was treated with profound kindness, care and respect; the nursing care could not have been better.
In effect, they gave him two more happy years of life in
a warm and homely environment.
I shall be forever grateful to all the staff at Halwill Manor Nursing Home.

My Mum was a Resident at Halwill Manor for 9 years and in that time she was extremely well cared for by all of the wonderful staff.
All of her Health and Social needs were met and the care she received was of the highest standard. I always felt reassured that, after I had visited, my Mum was being
cared for in a loving way, which truly meant a great deal to me personally.

I always found the owner to be very approachable, she is a very genuine person who is very passionate about the care she provides.

Thank You.

I have worked in this line of work for 23 years and have had five family members in such places like this but this is best by far. Many thanks

My aunt was in a home over 100 miles away from us. It was very modern and clean. More a hotel than home. She was becoming increasingly isolated in her room and declining in health. We decided she should move nearer to family than her friends.
We chose Halwill on recommendation because of the level
of care.
It proved to be a contrast to her previous home, providing both a clean, comfortable and homely environment.
My aunt moved into a lovely sunny room with rural views. The staff immediately engaged with her, encouraging her out of her room, socialising with them and other residents.
She had two more years of healthy life and when she died it was due to old age rather than losing the will to live. If I need to go into a home one day I have already reserved my place in the Manor.

The owner, management and carers are so caring. Halwill Manor Nursing Home has a warm, homely feel. You were made to feel like family. All staff, including management, were friendly, always made time to ralk to you and answer any questions you asked and always contacted you if there were any problems.
I would recommend Halwill. The carers are very caring and well trained for dementia.

Dad took up residence at Halwill Manor during November 2018 at a point where his dementia was rapidly advancing and his medical conditions meant he ate nor drank very little.
He was a solitary individual by nature, but such was the welcome he received that he soon joined in the various entertainments
and activities on offer.
All of the staff offered the right level of support and encouragement to Dad during his final weeks and he genuinely enjoyed the company, humour and good spirit that prevails the entire home.
My wife and I are very happy with the memory that Dad spent his last days surrounded by love and kindness at Halwill. His face lit up when any of the staff spoke to him, and he really enjoyed an environment where everyone knew his name and made him feel special.

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.101)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.101) out of 10 for Halwill Manor Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.1 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.957 for Halwill Manor Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (44 Excellents x 5) + (2 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 46 Ratings = 4.957
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.144 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Halwill Manor Nursing Home is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 26 registered maximum number of service users is 5.2. 4 Positive Reviews ÷ 5.2 = 0.769
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
