Gosberton House is a family run care home providing nursing and personal care for up to 46 older people and people with a physical disability.

The home is a magnificent Georgian property in landscaped grounds with a summer house, a Japanese garden, patio and the beautiful pond walk where residents can take in the peace and tranquillity of the very large pond and enjoy watching the ducks and other birds which reside there. There are seating areas all along the walk and around the extensive gardens. Situated in a quiet area of Gosberton village, which is some 6 miles from the market town of Spalding.

The local church is next to the home and there are footpaths to the local amenities such as post office, shops and pub. Car parking is available at the front and rear of the home.

The home was opened in 1989 with a ground floor extension (the Heesom wing) with en-suite single bedrooms built in 2000 to provide further bedroom and communal areas.

They pride themselves on their welcoming family atmosphere and their dedicated and experienced staff who deliver the highest standard of care whilst respecting residents' dignity and privacy at all times.

Whilst dad wasn't in Gosberton House for very long, the care he was given was second to none. All staff were friendly, caring and compassionate. I never saw a member of staff without a smile on their face. I was kept informed of my dad's care at all times. You only had to knock on the nurses door to
see someone and discuss the care and health of the resident. I would have no hesitation in recommending this home to other people.

My sister came to Gosberton House [GH] 2 years ago when it was tired, understandable given its age, and in need of an upgrade but with staff dedicated to residents.
She had a modern, small suite but felt it was too quiet. This was relayed to the owners at our regular 'family meetings'. They had many
modernisations planned and, over the next year, spent a fortune upgrading the environment. They had remembered my sisters request and offered her a new suite that was a perfect fit.
Admin & patient records were digitised, helpful when having to justify funding to local authorities/NHS. The food was also reviewed and the quality improved.
The programme of activities has blossomed with residents recently enjoying Carols, a Panto & a Christmas Party.
The biggest change from the new owners and management is they listen to their residents/relatives, and the staff care for the residents like they are caring for a member of their own family. My sister says Gosberton House now feels like her home.
Reply from alakan mathi, director at Gosberton House Care HomeThank you for taking the time to leave such a thoughtful review.
We are very pleased to hear how positively you and your sister have experienced the changes at Gosberton House. It is especially encouraging to know that the improvements to the environment, food, activities and digital systems have made a meaningful difference.
We strongly believe in listening to residents and their families, and your comments are very appreciated. Creating a home where people feel comfortable, valued and truly cared for is exactly what we aim for every day.
Thank you again for your kind words and continued support

This review relates to the home, its management and staff at this time as I'll write a further detailed review of the intimate care at a later date. Since the home was taken over by new management around 18 months ago there has been a huge improvement in staffs morale and wellbeing. Small things like
a smile, or a dress code for staff is now very noticeable throughout making it look professionally run. The management and staff are extremely kind, knowledgeable and caring in their roles and are equipped to cover most care home medical needs. Training of staff is very apparent in showing this. They treat not only the residents with dignity but us as relatives also and relatives are encouraged to get involved and take an active part not only in the care homes running but in recreation events too. The new management really do have the residents and relatives very much at heart and they listen and take on board any concerns raised and show the upmost respect and kindness to everyone.

My mother is registered blind, although she is still independent as much as possible. Myself and my siblings have had a few issues with regards to meals not being cut up and wrong meals being given even though I fill Mum's menu is on a weekly basis. Also, clothes being put into the wrong drawers even
though these are all labeled and she knows where everything is as she likes to dress herself. Apart from these issues which look to have been solved by management everything else seems to be ok.

Mum is always well presented whenever we visit, and although she is showing signs of gentle deterioration, the staff do their utmost to respect her wishes and treat her as an individual.
We have witnessed the warmth with which she is treated and she obviously has taken a shine to some members of staff
whose interaction obviously brightens her up.
I have reviewed her care plan, and it appears to be a genuine reflection of her gentle decline over the last few years and the changes that have been made to accommodate this.
When speaking to the senior staff, they always make time to discuss Mum's progress and maintain a positive, but realistic, understanding outlook towards her.
The atmosphere of the home is professional but also friendly, warm and caring.
It is reassuring to know that Mum is being so well looked after.

Current Review Score: 8.1 (8.079)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.1 (8.079) out of 10 for Gosberton House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 3 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.6 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.529 for Gosberton House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (18 Excellents x 5) + (16 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 34 Ratings = 4.529
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.55 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Gosberton House Care Home is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.25
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 50 registered maximum number of service users is 10. 3 Positive Reviews ÷ 10 = 0.3
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
