I am happy with the care my mum receives at Silverburncare home. Based on my observations the staff are caring and treat the residents with dignity and respect. The staff have a visible, caring and loyal interest in all the residents under thier care, especially my mum. My mum's needs are always met.
Always a friendy and welcoming environment. It feels clear to me that the home is managed to be a more than acceptable and high standard. The only criticism I would share, would be around resources. I think a few more staff are required, at times and could be more consistent in terms of familiarity. I also think that the unit can be overwhelmed, more staff would help address this as the carers are very capable but attention can be diverted leaving a lack of resource, especially when more than one resident requires one on one care during the day. Above all of that the care is excellent. I am always informed of any acute problems or worries the staff have regarding my mum. Thank you all
Reply from Jennifer Kimmins, Manager at Silverburn Care HomeThank you very much Kelly for taking the time to share such a thoughtful and balanced review.

My mam has lived in Silverburn for 2 years. Consistent staffing and friendly. I always receive telephone updates regarding my Mam as I do not live in Scotland, this gives me reassurance she is safe and cared for.
My mam has been having eating issues and staff have made sure she gets food she will try
and eat. In the 2 years of my visiting, the management have rarely been seen on my mam's unit, I think this should be addressed and they should make themselves known.

I find the staff from the minute we enter very friendly and welcoming. The home is always very clean. The menu however needs improving as mum requires finger food and I dont find that is always taken into consideration.

We appreciate you highlighting your concerns about the menu. We recently lost our beloved mother, who passed away peacefully in Silverburn Care Home where she had been so well cared for since May 2019. We would not hesitate to highly recommend Silverburn to anyone who is looking for a quality care home for their loved one. The level of care and kindness shown
by everyone in the nursing staff is first class. They took the time to get to know our mother well and were able to respond swiftly to her needs but also showed great warmth throughout. We would like to thank everyone in the Silverburn team, the management, the activities/events team who strived to ensure the residents were entertained and stimulated, all the nursing staff, specifically the Murdoch unit staff where our mum was cared for so well. Every single one not only enhanced our mother’s life, but also the lives of the whole family who could all rest easy knowing mum was so safe and well cared for. We take great comfort from that and we will all be forever grateful.

My mum was a resident in the Murdoch Unit {advanced dementia} at Silverburn Care Home for just over a year. Every member of staff, from the housekeepers to the management team are such a genuine group of caring people, always happy to help, nothing a problem. The activity coordinators do a wonderful
job keeping all the residents entertained, more so since the lockdown has been in place, video calling family instead. Silverburn has its own private mini-bus, which they use to take residents out and about, although, at present due to COVID it is also canceled. The care home has a wonderful online plan of care named 'relatives gateway' where I could log on and access all of the caregiving to Mum plus social activities and photographs. I cannot put into words how loving and professional all staff were, contributing to the superb care Mum received this past 14 months. I just wish Mum could have experienced a few more wonderful years living here, but unfortunately, this wasn't meant to be. Thank you.
Reply from Rishi Sujeewon, Manager at Silverburn Care HomeThank you, Alison. These words mean a lot to us. You all have been a great family and we will miss you all.

I was nervous when I first came in but I was soon put at ease by the friendly management and staff. I was soon made welcome by staff and residents alike. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff, they will sit and talk to you for as long as it takes. The atmosphere is very warm and caring, as I was
made very welcome. I feel as if I have known the staff for years, they are so supportive and they listen to what you have to say.

I must commend this Care Home and each member of staff that we have come into contact with. The staff are always polite and courteous and go out of their way to come and chat both with the service users and their visiting family.
Standard of care for the service user is exceptional - even on the
most trying of days. A big thank you to all.

My mum is a resident in the specialist unit. I'm more than happy with the treatment and care that my mum receives. My only concern is that sometimes the staff are put under tremendous stress as being the specialist unit some of the residents are very very demanding. I know the home always have the correct
level of staffing but sometimes they could really do with more support. We have to remember this unit receives patients that everyone else is struggling with.
Reply from Rishi Sujeewon, Manager at Silverburn Care HomeI am pleased that you are happy with your mum's care. Being a specialist nursing dementia unit, I agree not everyday is the same day. I met with the unit manager and deputy recently and one of the action point on your concern if not "area for improvement" is that we have now allocated an additional staff to this unit for 8am to 10am and also 6pm to 8pm on a day to day basis. We also use an additional full-time staff member for a day to a week if there is a new admission or more than one. Please do not hesitate to contact me for any other suggestions and thank you for trusting us to care for your mum.

Current Review Score: 8.1 (8.094)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.1 (8.094) out of 10 for Silverburn Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.3 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.8 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.319 for Silverburn Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (23 Excellents x 5) + (17 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 47 Ratings = 4.319
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.775 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Silverburn Care Home is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 50 registered maximum number of service users is 10. 4 Positive Reviews ÷ 10 = 0.4
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
