My dad has been in this nursing home since Nov 2024. The standard of care provided by all the staff in this nursing home is second to none. Dad's nursing needs are also met to a very high standard with both the nursing staff and the local GP. His health was very poor on admittance. This has hugely improved.
I have been welcomed as a relative by every member of staff. Never once have I felt like I shouldn't visit or be part of my dad's care needs. The home is spotlessly clean at every visit.

My mother recently passed away after 3 years at Milton Grange. My mother was lovingly and professionally cared for from the moment she arrived. The love and compassion was very much appreciated. Every member of staff took the time to get to know her and the family members who visited. The level of care
was exceptional on every level. Any requests were accommodated where possible. I cannot recommend Milton Grange highly enough. A thank you to all the members of staff from all the family.

Treatment of my grandpa here has been excellent. The staff are attentive and caring to each resident. Rooms are always immaculate when I visit and they take the time to get to know each resident personally as well as updating the family whenever we visit.

My sister-in-law passed away on 15th October after eleven months. The staff have been professional and caring during this time. The last few weeks have been extremely challenging for the staff and the family are grateful for the exceptional care and attention she received. In my career, I have been
involved in many care homes in a professional capacity and would recommend that it should be considered if a placement is required.

The staff at Milton Grange are excellent. They are caring and offer great support to the resident's relatives. I was very happy with the care given to my mother for the 3 months she lived at the care home. Nothing was too much bother. They are a great team.

My relative has now moved from Milton Grange and I wanted to give it a few weeks before leaving a review as it was only fair to compare it to another establishment. Disappointing does not even quantify how I felt as a family member. Things were difficult enough during a covid outbreak without staff
members making it difficult to contact relatives and denying perfectly safe window visits. One particular staff member's attitude is beyond belief, stating that “they didn’t care what other homes did” when a window visit was requested. The same staff member terminated the unfinished call. As a relative you felt unwelcome, the home does not have a nice atmosphere. My relative (who has full capacity) was deeply unhappy and this was exacerbated by rude staff who treated him “roughly” in his words. The only reason I have given two stars is that a couple of members of staff (nightshift) are extremely welcoming, kind and willing to listen to both relatives and the service user.
Reply from Alice Karran, Manager at Milton Grange Nursing Home

I am sorry that the service user's relative was unhappy with the support provided in the service. At the time the service user was admitted, Public Health guidance was in place and the service user was shielded for 14 days of their initial admission and then, due to circumstances, the service was placed into lockdown. During this period restrictions were in place and window visits could not take place as this would be in a communal area as the room windows are too high in bedrooms. Public Health Scotland would not allow window visits and initially, families were not to visit, the service has to adhere to this guidance. When families did come in to visit the service user, flexibility was given to them and longer visits were given. As the manager of the service, I can say with conviction that the service user was never treated roughly and staff were more than accommodating. The service user was initially on Calder unit in the home and was moved to Lomond unit to assist family with visits.

Overall good, may have agreed on excellent, but I have not been inside Milton Grange since 12th March 2020. So I felt I can not say excellent in all honesty. What I will say, is the staff have neem wonderful in doing what they have been doing to keep the home Covid free. However, no physical contact
or close contact is taking its till in my mum and family.

We are very happy with the service provided. My Mother has a close bond with the carers. This gives the family reassurance that she is being looked after properly. There is always plenty of staff on duty who are friendly and helpful. There is never a problem to talk to management or nurses if required.
The food is a good standard and always plenty.

Made to feel at home. The staff are very friendly and always on hand, I feel there should be more staff especially at night. Dad settled in better than we expected. Carers are overworked they really need more help two on night shift is not acceptable.
Reply from Alice Karran, Manager at Milton Grange Nursing Home

There is 4 staff on night duty and a twilight worker, giving 5 staff overall on night duty until 11 pm. There is then 4 staff all night in the care home as per staffing notice.

Current Review Score: 8.9 (8.916)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.9 (8.916) out of 10 for Milton Grange Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.9 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 5.000 for Milton Grange Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (45 Excellents x 5) ) ÷ 45 Ratings = 5
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.916 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Milton Grange Nursing Home is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 37 registered maximum number of service users is 7.4. 4 Positive Reviews ÷ 7.4 = 0.541
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
