My mother was cared for in Richmond the last 4 months of her life. The care and attention she received from all the staff was exceptional. They nursed her with professionalism and a warmth and sensitivity which was a reassurance and comfort to our family...we knew she was in the best place.

Mum went to Richmond nursing home straight from the hospital when she was diagnosed with vascular dementia and other illnesses.Over the few months that mum got, she was treated with kind, generous and attentive care from all the staff at the home. There was the most beautiful and lively atmosphere at
the home on every occasion that I visited mum, and that was every day. They made videos for us of mum, singing to her, making her laugh and tell stories or quote her poems, which we enjoyed, and I continue to look back on with happy memories. Richmond main concern was to keep mum safe and comfortable. They also kept us updated on what was happening in the home, with events and her dietary menu, when things needed to change ie:her food and water needing to be thickened. They did this with great thought so she would enjoy it.Mums room was kept so clean. They gave great personal care. The staff always went the extra mile for mum and us, we knew mum was safe. We trusted all the staff completely.

I can't praise the staff of Richmond care home enough. They looked after my mother in a way that brought peace to our family. The care and attention was 5 star. It was the best decision we ever made for mum. Thank you all for easing our worries!

We're a close family but we live very far away, and over three years, our mum got kind, generous, thoughtful care. During the pandemic lockdown, they took an iPad to her room every few days so we could do zoom and see each other. The door was never locked to us when we visited. We and other visitors
were always welcome. The staff were so upbeat and loving that, since mum passed, we miss them. The nurses were thoughtful. The home provided extra things to look forward to. Her food had to be pureed and yet they still made some of her favorite things. In three years of not being able to move, she never had a bedsore. On her 98th birthday, with travel restrictions in place, they decorated her room and made a party for her and for us on zoom. Nursing homes had always seemed sad places. But Richmond was not. It's beautiful and it's a haven of caring. We have precious memories of our visits there. The feeling of safety and trust made all the difference to us and our mum.

My mother was very reluctant to leave her own home but she took to the Richmond like a duck to water! This was in no small part due to the professional and genuinely caring attention she received throughout her sadly short time there.

My mother was a resident in Richmond over 4 years ago and was extremely well looked after until she passed away. When my Father was no longer able to look after himself at home, my sister and I had no hesitation in approaching Richmond to ascertain if they could provide similar care for him. The care
Dad has received over the past 12 months has been exceptional. His 100th birthday was just before the first lockdown and all sorts of celebrations were organised by the staff to celebrate this momentous occasion. Since March and the difficulties surrounding Covid-19 staff and management have done everything they can to protect the residents and to facilitate family visits and contact when visits were not possible. Phone calls and zoom calls were organised and visits outside when possible and inside in the newly constructed "Pod" when weather was inclement. Dad is very well looked after, he is settled and content and this is a great comfort to the family.

My father moved from another home where he'd hated the food and had a pretty bad time. He spent several months at Richmond, where the staff were caring and friendly and helped get him eating properly again. He enjoyed the quizzes and other activities they ran. During the earlier stages of Covid-19,
the home put in place sound measures to ensure infection was kept at bay, and later made arrangements to permit limited, safe visiting, which was much appreciated.

All of the staff are welcoming, friendly and professional. They interact well with the residents, ensuring their needs are met. Since the start of the pandemic, they implemented numerous controls and measures to keep the residents safe and prevent Covid infections from entering the care home, for which,
we are extremely grateful. When appropriate, they also facilitated visits, in a socially distanced manner outdoors, when the weather allowed. It is also easy to stay in touch using video calling, which is particularly important with other relatives around the world.

My mother (94-years) entered Richmond Care Home March 21st 2020. At first, she was very reluctant to leave her own apartment, but since dementia had set in and it was the beginning of the Covid crisis, we felt that she would be safer in Richmond. She had stayed there once before for a couple of weeks
when recovering from knee replacement surgery. At that time, we had been extremely impressed with the care and the facilities offered, so Richmond was an obvious choice for my mother. All I can say is that owing to the exceptional, indeed loving care, excellent food and a home from home environment, my mother settled in very quickly and happily. When I had the opportunity to visit, she never once mentioned returning to her apartment - this says it all! In fact, if my wife and I are ever in the situation of needing to be admitted to a care home, Richmond would be our first choice. All of the staff are a great credit to the caring sector.

Mum is 93, has dementia and needed to move into a care home at the start of the first Covid lockdown. I was very anxious about how she would settle in, knowing that she would not be able to have any visitors, but I needn't have worried. Richmond Nursing Home is in a perfect location on the shore, and
the view from the home is beautiful. We received a very warm welcome on arrival and had lots of opportunities to discuss Mum's problems with staff. Their approach to the pandemic was excellent, with a complete focus on the residents' safety. One of my biggest worries was Mum's strict dietary requirements. She must have both a gluten and lactose-free diet and even a tiny amount of gluten can make her ill. I am delighted to say that Mum is happy and has put on weight. A lot of care has been taken with her diet. Everyone seems very friendly. I can talk to her on FaceTime any time, and the staff are always happy to talk to me about any concerns. Overall, I am very happy!

The dedicated nurses provide excellent care for my Dad. I am promptly advised of any health issues or medication changes.
My Dad has an en-suite room with a sea view, which is kept spotlessly clean. Laundry facilities are also excellent.
All staff are friendly, polite, sympathetic and helpful.
The
dining room is beautifully decorated providing more of a fine dining experience than a canteen setting. The healthy food is homemade on the premises with good portion sizes, variety and choice.
My dad takes part in the activities, which include quizzes, art and craft, poetry reading, games and interesting talks. This contributes to a good social life within the home.
The excellent location means that I can take my dad for walks along the seafront.
Richmond is a well run and well-maintained nursing home. My dad has been living there for three years, and is well cared for and happy. As a daughter, I can highly recommend Richmond Nursing Home.

Current Review Score: 8.7 (8.679)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.7 (8.679) out of 10 for Richmond Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 3 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.7 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 5.000 for Richmond Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (36 Excellents x 5) ) ÷ 36 Ratings = 5

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.679 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Richmond Nursing Home is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.25

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 35 registered maximum number of service users is 7. 3 Positive Reviews ÷ 7 = 0.429

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
