While it was not an easy decision to move Mum into a nursing home, it had to happen for her own safety and wellbeing. We are able to relax knowing she is happy, well looked after and safe due to the kind and caring staff in Elsie Inglis.

The place is kept clean; she enjoys the food and activities,

and we are made to feel welcome every time we visit.

We were able to bring in photos, bedding, ornaments etc to personalise her bedroom (which has a big en-suite shower room) and she has a fantastic view over Holyrood Park.

While it took her a couple of months to settle completely, Elsie's is now definitely her home.

Last year we made the very difficult decision to get our mum into a nursing home where she would receive the proper care and attention that we were unable to provide. It was quite urgent that we got her into somewhere quickly and chose the first one locally that had availability. We visited and found
it to be fine but after only 2 days we realised it was not the place for her and needed to find somewhere else. We visited Elsie Inglis NH and the managers could not have been more helpful, pulling out the stops to have her admitted 2 days later. All of the staff from management to nurses/carers, cleaners, activity organisers etc are wonderful. The look after mum so well and we are very happy with the service provided. Most importantly mum is very happy and quickly called Elsie's home. She never lacks for company and enjoys the variety of the daily activities. Big thanks from a very grateful family.

Elsies is an excellent care home, going above and beyond to care for my mother. It seems a peaceful environment and all the staff have a great rapport with all the residents. Nothing seems too much trouble for the staff, regardless of how busy they are. I would really recommend Elsie Inglis care home.

From the management to the carers, nursing staff and entertainment staff - everyone is kind, and caring and can be counted on. They all go above and beyond to provide a valuable, happy caring home. There is a wonderful feeling of peace through and everyone looked after as well as this the meals are
great provided by a wonderful catering team. There is also a handyman who works diligently but also takes an interest in everyone - we are extremely happy with the care provided to our mother.

My husband has mixed dementia and has been a resident for 9 months. He sees his stay here as temporary and is often sad/upset that we are not taking him home with us. However, all the staff, carers, nurses, activities and housekeeping are very kind and understanding/patient. He often thanks them for
helping him. There is a good bunch of residents there with him. His room/furniture is quite basic, but enough. Invoicing is a bit erratic for my liking but I'm sure there is a good reason for this.

My Mum went into this care home in August 2023. We viewed several care homes before deciding to place Mum here. Elsie Inglis was fresh, clean and had a very peaceful and homely atmosphere. The staff were very welcoming and we were shown around the full home including the kitchen and laundry, which were
all immaculate. All staff members took the time to get to know us and always offered us a drink and snack on every visit. The food the residents are served is all homemade and catered to their individual tastes, nothing was ever too much trouble. Mum was always treated with dignity right until the end and I knew going away after every visit that Mum was well cared for.
The home has lots of daily different activities the residents can take part in should they wish and residents are encouraged to mix with each other.
The manager and the management team are second to none and always available to speak to directly and deal with queries efficiently.
Would recommend 100%.

My dad had been a resident at Elsie Inglis for a year. The home is a great place, the team are friendly and welcoming to family members. It is bright and modern and has lovely views of the local park. Nothing is too much trouble and at the weekend we hosted a small engagement party for my son, mainly
for Dad’s benefit. The Chef arranged a fabulous buffet for us and baked a delicious cake. It was really special for Dad and great memories were made for us too. I really can’t thank all the team enough for taking such good care of Dad.

My sister was given interim care here for 5 weeks after a couple of months stay in hospital. The care she received from all the staff was amazing. The home itself is clean, modern and very comfortable, the food that I witnessed being served to residents looked appetising. There seemed to be lots of
activities for residents to take part in if they wanted to. I was sorry to see her leave.

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.269)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.269) out of 10 for Elsie Inglis Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.4 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.855 for Elsie Inglis Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (72 Excellents x 5) + (10 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 83 Ratings = 4.855
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.414 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Elsie Inglis Nursing Home is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 49 registered maximum number of service users is 9.8. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 9.8 = 0.714
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
