Failed discharge given by Eaglewood. Lack of empathy and respect given to my father during his stay and rehabilitation. Communication with family members was promised when they first arrived but nothing was ever received. The paperwork given was unclear, and carers and GPs have said this is not detailed enough, and still now, after four weeks, still trying to get everything into place that Eaglewood should have completed before his discharge. Completely disgraceful !!

Mum has been at Eaglewood since December 2019 and the care has always been fantastic from all staff. She has been in Watling up until now but for various reasons has now moved to Chestnut where we have no doubt the standard of care will remain.

Watling staff have always gone over and above as have the rest of the staff at Eaglewood. We are always very grateful.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share such kind feedback. We are incredibly grateful for your continued trust since your mum joined Eaglewood in December 2019. I came to the home a year ago.

Coming from hospital I came to PJ care Eaglewood and I know have mental health issues, I can go cray cray. I came to PJ to get rehab after a stroke which happened post my traumatic brain injury. I want to start by thanking the carers who have endured my turbulent behaviours and helped ease me into the person I am now. In my opinion, I only came here for rehabilitation for stroke but I have gained more and improved my mental health. I was unable to stand or walk when I came but the physios have been great and I can now stand, transfer and walk with assistance pushing me towards a better quality of life. My physio is still ongoing. This place can do with more funding to help better the lives of people with health conditions. The management is amazing, they listen to residents, the nurses on Oak have helped me so much in settling down and managing my mental health issues and behaviours. I found a family in Oak. A special shout out to Oak staff.

I was a resident at PJCare from April to July 2025, suffering from extensive nerve damage brought on suddenly by Guillane-Barre Syndrome. When I arrived on Oak Unit, I was extremely dependent on staff, as I was bed and wheelchair bound, and needed two staff to hoist me between the two. From day one, I was treated with dignity, respect, kindness and compassion by all nurses, carers, therapists, and support team workers. The whole team were amazing. Everyone had a polite and encouraging word to say, even as they passed me in the corridors. They took care of me, allowing me to focus on my physio rehab.

The physio team were absolutely outstanding, and I can not thank them enough for the thought and effort that went into my daily exercise programmes, in order to keep moving me forward, without the exercises becoming boring and tedious. When I was discharged in July, I was able to walk, run, jump, skip and most importantly dance again. Without them, this would not have been possible.

My son is cared for by a dedicated team of compassionate and professional carers/nurses. He is kept immaculate at all times and the employees appear to have an excellent relationship with him. He is exposed to appropriate stimulation and the home has recently made a great improvement with the activities it offers and access to the community. Staff morale always appears good and the management are always willing to hear any concerns.

I love the way my relative is very comfortable and listening to the music on the radio. That the team at the care home know how much he loves music and needs to listen to that is very impressive. He is clearly comfortable and well looked after with the music in the background, he was clicking his fingers as if he thought he was at a music concert and probably thought (as my husband chatted to him) that we were there with him.

Reply from Shaun OGara, Operations Manager & Registered Manager at PJ Care Eagle Wood Neurological Care Centre

Thank you so much for your kind words. Its wonderful to hear how much your relative enjoys the music and how it brings him comfort. Our team takes great care in getting to know each resident's preferences, so it's lovely to know that his love for music is making a difference. Seeing him so engaged...

The residents of the nursing home, suffering from a range of neuro-degenerative conditions are cared for and managed with considerable compassion and care by the carers and nurses. The nursing home is also excellent with its discipline in recording and monitoring the behaviour and actions of the residents and staff. This means the nursing home can communicate with funders with considerable knowledge of the residents. There is no cure for the various medical conditions at the home, but care is provided that makes life comfortable and safe for the residents at PJ Care there are regular meetings to discuss resident care with doctors and the management of the residents condition and risk is handled very effectively. It may not be realistic with the resources available, but I think the nursing home could also expand its activities to include some "informing", particularly for resident families. For example, could there be sessions for advice to families with communication for Alzheimer's patients, or/and what is the current situation with respect to treatments for neuro-generative illnesses.

PJ Care, the very best I've been to, excellent care for my brother. I went to five care homes with him before PJ Care and nothing compares to this place; staff and carers are 100%, always a warm welcome and smile. My brother has excelled since he's been there. If he had been left in the other care homes, I don't think he would be here today.

The interaction really helps him. Thanks to all the staff, also reception. I can now sleep at night. Thank you all.

Overall Experience
My brother has been resident in several care homes in the past years and I consider PJ Care to be the best. Being purpose-built, the layout of the building is very good. Corridors are wide and airy and there is plenty of natural light. My brother has a good size, room suitable for two or three visitors. He has a very nice outlook onto the communal garden.
Staff are very professional and kind and seem genuinely interested in my brother's wellbeing and progress. Staff have dealt patiently with his complex emotional and physical needs and do their best to alleviate the inevitable boredom that comes with being confined to bed.
My brother and his room are both kept clean and tidy even though my brother's condition can sometimes make maintaining this difficult.
Staff are always ready to answer any questions I may have. They are invariably polite and welcoming when I visit.

I feel reassured that my brother is somewhere where his care is among the best that could be provided anywhere.

Personalised, compassionate care of the resident (and extended to me) by a professional, caring, multi-disciplinary team - many of whom have been caring for my husband since his admission eight years ago on Chestnut Ward. Continuity of care is extremely valuable and in his best interest as a young Alzheimer's patient, it's appreciated by myself as his main visitor (with my sister).
Highly recommend the overall culture and support at PJ Care, along with the loyal staff and great family liaison.

Thank you - a life savers of care, quality and nursing of my husband.

Every time I have visited Chestnut Ward, I am always welcomed as a member of the family, that is how PJ Care operate. The staff who take care of laundry, cleaning, meals, activities are all as caring as the care staff on the ward; some of the staff have been here for the past eight years. The level of professionalism and warmth reassure me that this has been the right place to enjoy "moments of joy", fun and laughter. Overall Experience

Mum had Motor neurone disease with 4 failed placements due to the complexity of the condition.

Although PJ Care Eagle Wood were not fully experienced in MND and its rapid changes and management, however, they excelled far beyond any other care facility. Personal care is second to none, very experienced and compassionate carers. The medications are always on time, there is a fabulous ratio of staff to residents not experienced at any other home. Mum was always clean and well presented. They assisted so much during Covid times, learned new technology and had fabulous communication.

Cons: due to complexity I feel an advanced practitioner would be an awesome addition. They could work better with outside organisations, nurses listen to carers, some staff had very little English language .

Overall experience: I can’t express enough PJ’s superiority over any other care establishment: all the staff: care, admin, nursing, management were amazing. I would Highly recommend.

thank you

My son has been a resident in PJ Care Eagle Wood Neurological Care Centre for just over a year following a haemorrhage and hospital stays and operations for 9-weeks and in the hospital for 7-weeks before joining PJ Care. The facilities and staff are excellent, and he is very well looked after. The home is only 10-15 minutes away from me, and in normal circumstances, visiting is an open-door policy, which I hope, like other relatives will resume ASAP. Of course, many activities have been affected due to Covid, but hopefully, soon things will slowly retreat to some sort of normality. I believe my son couldn't be anywhere better, both he and myself are very happy.

My dad has mixed dementia and moved from a previous care setting into a hospital and then into this care home in May 2020. He has received excellent care during his entire stay, so far. Occasionally dad appears to be wearing items of clothing that are not his own, but I think this have now been rectified. I have rated all options as excellent because every time I see my dad, he looks clean and well cared for. My only concern is, that since he moved into this setting, I have not been able to actually go into the care home and see my dad's room or how he is looked after. I have only seen my dad via zoom calls, via a garden visit (in summer) or via the newly built visiting pod (a screen separates us). I would like to be able to hold my dad's hand and give him a cuddle and a kiss but current restrictions do not allow this to take place. My dad has deteriorated severely since May 2020, through lack of physical contact with his loved ones (family). COVID tests are not an option for family visitors.

Reply from Sara Zielinska, Quality and Compliance Administrator at PJ Care Eagle Wood Neurological Care Centre

Thank you for your review and positive words about Eagle Wood. We are hoping that with the new vaccine and review around Covid restrictions that the Government will allow all residents to have face to face visits as soon as possible. Please do contact our Family Liaison Manager, if you feel he can be of any support to you. Thank you again.

I have only praise for Eagle Wood and the dedicated team who provide outstanding care for my wife. The home reacts at once to any changes to my wife's needs, as all her needs are me in-house; carers/nurses/doctors/consultants. In the first few weeks she was assessed by a variety of specialist (speech, swallowing, medication etc). The modern spacious building is always presented immaculately, from the welcoming staff at reception through to the wide corridors and generously proportioned en-suite rooms. Staff are always cheerful and welcoming. I could not be happier for my wife.

Review from Jacqui P (Daughter of Resident) published on 5 September 2018 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

My mother resided in the Chestnut Unit at PJ Care Peterborough from April to August 2018. Mum's diagnosis of semantic dementia led to several hospital admissions and a stay at an acute mental health facility, due to a care home and hospital staff not being able to deal with her behavioural issues. We experienced 'care' in a number of healthcare and home settings and I can categorically state that mum had the best care whilst she was a resident at PJ Care. The staff are, without exception, kind, caring, empathetic and compassionate. They went out of their way to ensure mum had everything she needed and more. This, whilst mum continued to have behavioural issues; staff at PJ Care take this in their stride and do not see it as abnormal or distressing behaviour. The leadership in the unit and training of the staff is reflected in their care and I have no hesitation in recommending PJ Care to anyone who is having difficulty placing their loved one in a care setting, which offers individualised care in a kind and compassionate way. Thank you, PJ Care, for making my Mums last few months as comfortable as they possibly could be.
