Harborne Lane is 5-star, very respected care home offering well above average residential care, and a very active management and administration team ensures the extra mile. All staff receive food supervision and training, home accommodation offers high cleanliness with full laundry service, and hygiene
on all used equipment is daily reviewed. Hospital and high class shopping close to the home with excellent care, parking also well provided, landscape gardens for residents, GPS attendance and a care team on site. All rooms have own toilets/showers, TV call buttons. Also, room for visitors, the entertainment team provide many options available to include cake/sicuits, etc, get-togethers.

My mom moved into Harborne Lane Nursing Home in August 2025. From day one the carers and management have been so caring and helpful. Before my mom went to Harborne as a family we had cared for mom since her diagnosis it was a hard decision to take for us to seek help and support from people outside
of our family. Mom had a number of falls. After one of her falls she ended up in hospital and it was noted that mom needed way more than we as a family could offer mom was sent to a assessment center which was a hard time as it was far away after the manager came to see mom at the assessment center she confirmed that the home could meet moms needs. Mom hadn't slept in a bed for a long time before going to Harborne the management said their goal was getting mom in a bed . The assessment center had not been able to do this but on day one mom slept in a bed for four hours this was a monumental achievement and something I thought would take weeks not days. I only have good things to say.

We understand how difficult it can be for families to make the decision to seek care, and we are honoured that you placed your trust in us to support your mom. We are so pleased to hear how well she has settled and that she was able to sleep in a bed from her very first day, which was a significant achievement. Our team is committed to providing compassionate and personalised care, and your kind feedback is greatly appreciated.

I am very pleased with the standard of care provided at this home. The staff demonstrate genuine compassion, professionalism, and patience, ensuring that residents are treated with dignity and respect at all times. Communication with families is excellent, and we are always kept well informed about
any changes or developments.
The home itself is clean, well-maintained, and provides a warm, welcoming environment. Rooms are comfortable and personal needs are always taken into account. The variety of activities offered helps residents remain engaged and active, contributing to their overall wellbeing.
Meals are of high quality, with consideration given to individual dietary requirements, and the dining experience is both enjoyable and sociable.
Overall, I have complete confidence in the care and support provided here. It offers both residents and their families peace of mind, knowing that loved ones are in safe and caring hands.

My mom has been well looked after since Oct 2024. Her room is always clean and fresh smelling. Mom's generally well presented and her clothes are kept clean by the laundry team. All carers look after mom in a caring manner and keep me well informed about how she's getting on, any gp attention or any
upsets.
There have been a few teething problems regarding her hearing aids being lost, damaged by being washed in the laundry, not being put in mom's ears, and sometimes not have working batteries in them. This has improved recently
Mom looks well and, although she's confused most of the time, she is always grateful for the care given to her.
Mom enjoys the activities provided and hopefully, the full programme will return once the new activities coordinator starts employment.
I have expressed concerns about TV content that is shown for a lot of the time. Wall to wall soap operas have never been my mom's choice of viewing. Maybe a bit more variety and music content could be explored

My Mother was a resident of Harborne Lane Nursing Home for just under a year and a half. Every person that came into contact with my Mother was kind, respectful and caring. Managers, carers, the ladies who washed the clothes, chefs and those in charge of resident's activities.
We were always informed
of how my Mother was from medical attention to what she had been chatting about. It felt that she really had individual care and attention. There was always someone to ask questions to with information always given. Even after my Mother's death, they dealt with the family's feelings with thought and respect. Thank you.

Overall experience is good. Staff and cleanliness of the home are good. Food has recently been improved, ie. food prepared for my father's liking. Staff do advise when medicine, and food not eaten by my dad.

My mum was admitted in April 2022 after a serious stroke. Not the most cheerful lady or accepting of care, she didn't understand what help she needed. We have been amazed by the care and attention that the manager, the deputy manager and the receptionist and the amazing team have shown to mum and also
to dad who visited almost daily. The loving way you supported us until mum's peaceful death in the home will long remain in our memory. It was a good day when I chanced upon your home and we will happily spread the word about your care.

The care home was purpose-built. Therefore the accommodation and facilities are excellent. The central heating system has been commented on several times and has to be monitored. I find it strange that there are no thermometers anywhere in the building. There is still a need for agency carers on occasions,
usually weekends, which brings the care standards down from excellent to good. There does not seem to be sufficient supervision of carers on those occasions. There are some excellent staff in other positions, i.e. admin, laundry and cleaning and they often provide care over and above their duties in order to make the residents more comfortable. The nurses are all excellent and provide nursing care of the highest standards.

Current Review Score: 8.6 (8.632)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.6 (8.632) out of 10 for Harborne Lane Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.9 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.764 for Harborne Lane Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (58 Excellents x 5) + (11 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 72 Ratings = 4.764
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.868 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Harborne Lane Nursing Home is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 68 registered maximum number of service users is 13.6. 5 Positive Reviews ÷ 13.6 = 0.368
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
