Job summary

Are you passionate about making mealtimes meaningful and enjoyable? Do you take pride in creating nutritious, comforting food for others? We are looking for a dedicated and caring Cook to join our team at Woodlands Care Home.

As our Cook, you’ll play a vital role in the health and wellbeing of our residents by preparing and serving high-quality meals in a friendly, home-from-home environment.

We use Apetito to provide nutritious, balanced main meals, which simplifies meal service and ensures dietary needs are met. Your role will include:

  • Preparing and serving Apetito meals in line with residents' dietary requirements

  • Preparing light snacks, breakfasts, and accompaniments (e.g., salads, puddings)

  • Maintaining kitchen hygiene and food safety standards

  • Supporting with stock rotation, ordering, and kitchen records

  • Collaborating with care staff to ensure residents enjoy a positive dining experience

  • ?? About You:

  • We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Experienced in a kitchen or catering environment (care home experience is a bonus)

  • Confident with food preparation and basic kitchen operations

  • Aware of food hygiene and dietary requirements (training provided if needed)

  • Food Hygiene Level 2 (or willingness to complete training) is essential.

Skills / Qualifications:

  • Level 2 Food Safety and Hygiene Certificate (required or willingness to complete)
  • Previous experience in a care home
  • school

  • or similar setting (preferred)
  • Understanding of allergen management and dietary needs (training available)
  • Basic knowledge of Apetito or willingness to learn (training provided)
  • Enhanced DBS check (required – processed by employer)
  • Basic cooking and food preparation skills
  • Good understanding of nutrition and portion control
  • Knowledge of food safety and hygiene procedures
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
