Band 5 Registered Nurse – Job Description
Reports to: Clinical Lead / Registered Manager
Location: Residential Care Home
Role Purpose
To deliver safe, effective, person?centred nursing care to residents, working as part of a multidisciplinary team. The Band 5 Nurse promotes clinical excellence, supports care staff, and contributes to high standards of governance and regulatory compliance within the home.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care

Provide high?quality nursing care in line with NMC standards and care home policies

Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for residents with a range of health needs

Administer medications safely and maintain accurate MAR documentation
-
Undertake clinical tasks such as wound care, catheter care, observations, and long?term condition monitoring

Respond promptly to changes in residents’ health and escalate concerns appropriately
-
Ensure safe infection prevention and control practices are followed at all times
Leadership & Team Support

Act as a role model for high standards of care and professionalism

Provide clinical guidance to care staff and support their development

Delegate tasks effectively while maintaining oversight of resident wellbeing

Support new staff and students through mentoring and supervision
Governance, Safety & Compliance

Maintain accurate, person?centred documentation including care plans and risk assessments

Contribute to audits (medication, wound care, infection control, care plans)

Report and record incidents, safeguarding concerns, and clinical risks in line with policy

Ensure compliance with CQC standards and NMC Code of Conduct

Participate in quality improvement initiatives within the home
Resident Experience & Family Engagement

Build positive relationships with residents and their families

Promote dignity, choice, and independence in all aspects of care

Support meaningful activities and holistic wellbeing

Communicate clearly and compassionately with families, advocates, and professionals
Skills / Qualifications:
- Add Registered Nurse (Adult) with valid NMC PIN
- Experience in older people’s care (placements or employment)
- Strong clinical assessment skills
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
- Excellent communication and documentation skills
- Commitment to person?centred care and safeguarding
- Desirable Experience in a care home setting
