Job summary

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB:

To ensure all residents receive a well-balanced, appetising and varied diet suitable for individual requirements. Ensure that variety is reflected in meal planning and to ensure high standards of hygiene are used for food preparation and storage. The role involves mainly weekend shifts and potentially weekdays aswell.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

· To maintain overall responsibility for preparing meals and beverages as required, ensuring that all meals are regularly reviewed for quality control, quantity and presentation.

· Liaise with Head Chef to understand the menu and cooking requirements for each shift. In addition, liaise with appropriate staff regarding special dietary requirements.

· Ensure that only fresh foods are used in meal preparation, and that any refrigerated or frozen foods are used by the “use by” date.

· Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene control and practices at all times. Establish regular cleaning schedules and keep accurate documentation as required.

· Ensure that the requirements of the Food Hygiene Regulations and Food Safety Act are strictly adhered to and enforced.

· To be responsible for managing the kitchen work area including supervising catering duties to other kitchen staff as appropriate.

· Enforce kitchen safety regulations for all catering staff and remove faulty equipment and report required repairs or replacements to the Care Home Manager.

· Report any accidents or incidents immediately to the Care Home Manager and ensure the relevant documentation is completed and submitted.

· Monitor and keep written records of equipments checks, food and equipment temperature etc. This includes checking all refrigeration equipment is functioning properly.

· To ensure all cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery is kept clean, ready to use and is appropriately stored.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: £12.50-£13.50 per hour

Expected hours: 17 – 25 per week
