Behind every well-run care home is quiet, dependable financial discipline - the kind that doesn’t shout, but makes everything else possible.
At Peninsula Care Homes, our finance team provides the structure, insight, and stability that allows our homes to focus on what matters most: delivering safe, compassionate, high-quality care.
We’re now looking for an Assistant Accountant who takes pride in accuracy, enjoys bringing order to complexity, and wants their work to genuinely support people and positive change.
About the role
This is a hands-on, detail-driven role where your work underpins strong decision-making, governance, and operational confidence across the organisation.
Working closely with the Director of Finance, you’ll support financial reporting, analysis, and controls - while also providing practical administrative support linked to suppliers, facilities, and systems.
If you like your work to be structured, purposeful, and quietly impactful, this role will suit you well.
What you'll be doing
You’ll play a key role in keeping our financial foundations strong by:
- Supporting the preparation of monthly management accounts, including accruals, prepayments, and reconciliations
- Preparing KPI reporting, cost analysis, and short-term cashflow forecasts to support insight-led decisions
- Reviewing payroll data and helping resolve payroll queries with home teams
- Maintaining accurate records for supplier contracts, fixed assets, facilities projects, and maintenance planning
- Monitoring supplier performance and supporting cost and service oversight
- Assisting with external and internal audits and strengthening financial controls
- Supporting finance system improvements and digital ways of working
- Providing ad-hoc financial analysis and operational support when needed
- Covering core bookkeeping and central office administration as required
This is a role where detail matters, and where consistency and follow-through are genuinely valued.
Who you are
You’re organised, dependable, and quietly confident with numbers. You enjoy problem?solving, take ownership of your work, and aren’t afraid to ask questions. Ideally, you’ll bring:
- Proven experience in a similar finance or accounts role
- AAT Level 3 (desirable) or be qualified by experience
- Strong numerical skills and excellent attention to detail
- Confidence using finance systems and Microsoft Excel
- An interest in developing analytical skills, including using Power BI, AI?enabled tools, or business intelligence systems
- The ability to manage competing priorities and work flexibly
- A professional, friendly communication style and a collaborative approach
- High standards of integrity and confidentiality
- The ability to work independently while enjoying being part of a small, supportive team
You do need to care about things being done properly.
