Learning and Development Practitioner
£45,000 per annum, Full-time (Monday-Friday), Permanent,
Based at Central Office (Parkland House, Exeter) with travel to homes
Think about the best learning you’ve ever experienced
- It probably wasn’t rushed.
It probably felt safe. And
it probably left you feeling more confident, not more anxious.
That’s the kind of learning we believe in at Peninsula Care Homes, and it’s why we’re investing in a Learning & Development Practitioner who can bring learning to life across our homes - visibly, credibly, and with purpose.
We’re a values-led organisation committed to relationship-centred care - for residents and staff. We believe learning is one of the strongest levers we have to improve care quality, staff confidence, and retention.
About the role
This is not a desk-bound training role.
It’s a hands-on, people-focused role where your presence, judgement, and approach directly shape care quality, safety, and culture.
You’ll work across our homes delivering high-quality practical training, supporting managers to embed learning into day-to-day practice, and ensuring we meet, and maintain, strong regulatory standards.
You’ll balance warmth with rigour, support with accountability, and relationships with results.
What you'll do:
- Deliver engaging, in-person practical and mandatory training (including Fire Safety, Manual Handling, and Basic Life Support / First Aid) in a way that builds confidence and competence
- Coordinate and support the Care Certificate so learning is meaningful, timely, and embedded - not just completed
- Maintain clear oversight of training compliance, keeping records accurate, visible, and audit-ready
- Support a consistent, high-quality induction experience that helps new starters feel capable and welcomed
- Work with apprenticeship and NVQ providers to support development pathways and learner progress
- Carry out practice audits in homes, offering constructive feedback and supporting improvement plans
- Partner with Managers and the Operations team to close gaps, strengthen practice, and sustain improvement
- Review and refine training models so learning is efficient, relevant, and aligned with best practice and CQC expectations
In short: you’ll help turn learning into confident, competent care.
Who you are:
This role will suit you if you’re someone who:
- Is confident and credible delivering practical training in health or social care
- Understands statutory and CQC training requirements - and why they matter
- Can coach, challenge, and support others without relying on authority
- Is organised, calm, and comfortable working within governance and reporting structures
- Values relationships, but isn’t afraid to hold high standards
- Is confident using digital systems (LMS, reporting tools, compliance trackers)
- Is happy to travel between homes and be visible where learning happens
You’ll hold - or be willing to work towards - relevant training qualifications, including Manual Handling / People Handling Instructor status.
You don’t just deliver training.
You build trust, confidence,
and capability.
