About the Role

As a Handyman / Maintenance Operative, you will be responsible for carrying out general maintenance tasks and ensuring that the care home environment is safe, functional, and compliant with health and safety requirements.

Your work will support the wellbeing of residents by maintaining the building, equipment, and surrounding areas to a high standard.

Your duties may include:

  • Carrying out general maintenance and repair work throughout the care home.
  • Ensuring the building, fixtures, and equipment remain safe and operational.
  • Conducting routine checks and preventative maintenance on systems and equipment.
  • Responding promptly to maintenance requests from staff or management.
  • Supporting the home in maintaining health and safety compliance.
  • Working in accordance with risk assessments and safe working procedures.
  • Identifying faults or hazards and taking appropriate action to resolve them.
  • Assisting with the coordination of external contractors and service providers where required.
  • Maintaining the grounds and external areas of the property where necessary.

  • Previous maintenance, handyman, or facilities experience.
  • A good understanding of health and safety regulations.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to identify and resolve faults.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work with staff, residents, and visitors respectfully.
  • The ability to work independently while also contributing to a team environment.
  • A reliable and flexible approach to work.

Requirements

  • Experience in maintenance, building, facilities management, or a similar role.
  • Ability to identify risks and work in accordance with risk assessments and safety procedures.
  • Good knowledge of health and safety legislation.
  • Strong practical and technical skills.
  • Ability to prioritise maintenance tasks effectively.

Qualifications

  • A qualification in Plumbing, Gas Installation, or a related trade (City & Guilds / NVQ Level 2 or 3) is desirable but not essential.
  • Previous experience in maintenance or handyman work.
  • Good written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Basic IT skills for completing documentation and maintenance records.
