Job summary

As a Domestic Assistant, you will consistently deliver a high standard of cleaning and hygiene within Wyndley Grange Nursing Home, contributing to our resident’s quality of care and sense of wellbeing. 

Working as part of a team, you will clean and tidy resident’s rooms and communal areas as detailed within the Wyndley Grange Cleaning Schedule, under the direction of the Lead Domestic Assistant.

You will have excellent communication skills and ensure all residents, relatives and visitors are addressed in a professional manner at all times.

Ensure that the caring culture expected at Wyndley Grange Nursing Home is consistently upheld and maintained.

Key Responsibilities – Cleaning

1.  As a Domestic Assistant, you will follow daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning schedules to ensure a clean, welcoming and tidy environment for residents, relatives and staff.

2.  You will ensure all residents bedrooms are vacuumed on a daily basis, and any dirty spots present on carpets will be cleaned in a timely manner. Bedrooms will be dusted, and tidied as required, taking care of residents personal belongings. In addition, you will always respect resident’s privacy and dignity when deciding an appropriate time to enter and clean bedrooms. 

3.  Residents en-suite toilets/shower rooms and communal toilets/bathrooms will be cleaned and sanitised on a daily basis, providing adequate supplies of toilet rolls, soap and hand towels. Floors will be steam cleaned,and equipment will be used in such a way as to ensure the operators own safety and the safety of residents, staff and visitors to the Nursing Home.

4.  All corridors and communal areas will be kept clean and tidy using appropriate methods to clean carpets, hard surfaces, soft furnishings, furniture and windows according to the requirements of the Wyndley Grange / Mill Cleaning Schedule.

5.  Operate with appropriate instruction vacuum cleaners, floor polishers, carpet shampooers and any other equipment, whilst understanding personal responsibility in meeting health and safety requirements. Ensure the safe and tidy storage of all equipment when not in use, and report any faulty equipment to the Lead Domestic Assistant.

6.  Ensure all rubbish and clinical waste is removed safely in a timely manner, and disposed of as instructed, ready for collection by the appropriate agencies.

7.  Have a clear understanding of the cleaning requirements of different surfaces, equipment, properties of cleaning materials and safe usage/storage meeting COSHH standards.

8.  Ensure all resources are used effectively and efficiently at all times to reduce unnecessary waste.

9.  Play a key role in reducing the risk of transfer of infection, cleaning body fluid spillages immediately, and infected rooms, in accordance with Homecroft Care Group Infection Prevention and Control Policy.

10. Undertake thorough, deep cleaning of vacated resident’s rooms ready for re-occupation.

11. Ensure all residents clothing is carefully laundered according to washing instructions, ironed, and returned to residents in a timely manner. All garments should be clearly labelled, and any repairs carried out as required.

12. Undertake washing, drying, ironing and folding of household laundry, ensuring that any items requiring disinfection are processed correctly and that Infection Prevention and Control Policy is strictly adhered to.

13. Take responsibility for identifying any work that has not been completed is reported to the Lead Domestic Assistant at the end of your shift.

14. Report any issues or concerns regarding residents to the Lead Domestic Assistant or Registered Nurse in charge of the shift, particularly those which affect the health and safety or welfare of the resident. Any such issues should be reported with immediate effect.

15. Communicate professionally and warmly with residents, relatives, staff and visiting healthcare professionals at all times.

2.  Work in accordance with Homecroft Care Group Policies and Procedures.

Key Responsibilities – Development

1.  Attend mandatory training sessions as specified.

2.  Participate in training, supervision and appraisal for self-development as agreed and required, to ensure up to date knowledge and best practice.

3.  Recognise your own limitations and seek guidance from the Lead Domestic Assistant as appropriate.

Skills / Qualifications:

  • Previous experience of cleaning within the care industry preferred.
