Activities are tailored to our residents’ needs and abilities and are very much person-centred from musical entertainment and days out to exercise classes, games, arts & crafts, social gatherings, and meaningful one-to-one sessions.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

·  Lead and encourage residents to join in meaningful activities whilst maintaining their independence, choice and dignity, enabling them to lead as full and active a life as possible.

·  Facilitate a stimulating and varied programme of leisure activities and social events, inside and outside of the home, for residents to enjoy.

·  Work with each resident to understand their likes and dislikes, abilities and needs, and put together an individual activity care plan, evaluated regularly.

·  Enable residents to access the local community.

·  Enable residents to continue with their hobbies and interests as desired.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

·  A genuine interest in working with the elderly to enhance their wellbeing

·  Ability to communicate effectively at all levels

·  The ability to work autonomously and deliver on time

·  Flexibility to work across both of our homes in Kenley and Purley.

·  Excellent organisational & multi-tasking skills

·  IT literacy

·  An appreciation of the need for confidentiality in line with GDPR protocol

·  Enthusiasm and empathy

·  Well presented

Desired:

·  Previous Care Home and activities experience

·  Previous experience of administration procedures

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

·  Liaise with the Activities Lead regarding the Monthly Activities Plan and Daily Schedules.

·  Support and encourage residents to join in group activities such as bingo, tea pot afternoon, games and quizzes.

·  Liaise with relatives and staff regarding special individual requirements — such as birthdays and anniversaries, cultural and religious festivals and celebrations — and be aware of the religious calendar relevant to the ethnic mix of residents.

·  Organise materials and logistics for planned events and trips out.

·  Perform individual sessions with residents, which could include life history, reading, poetry, chatting over a cup of tea, reminiscence, and more.

·  Work as an active team member with colleagues throughout the home to ensure the highest standard of care is achieved.

·  Update ‘About Me’ with activity notes and oversee emails.

·  Update ‘Altra’, the activities platform which drives activities and events.

·  Undertake any reasonable request which facilitates the resident’s right to choice, dignity and respect.

·  Be familiar and competent in compliance for outside trips, with assistance from the team.

·  Undertake any other duties, within your area of competence, as required by the Manager.

HEALTH AND SAFETY:

·  Report immediately to the Home Manager any illness of an infectious nature or accident incurred by a Client, colleague, self or another.

·  Understand and ensure the implementation of Hill House Nursing Home Ltd.’s Health & Safety policy, and Emergency & Fire procedures.

·  Report to the Home Manager, or the Maintenance Team, any faulty appliances, damaged furniture, equipment or any potential hazard.

·  Promote safe working practice throughout Carey Care Homes.
