When your home has been filled for 18+ years with noise, laughter, tears and being needed every day, it’s a big change when your children grow up and become independent. The house gets quieter, routines shift, and that sense of purpose can feel like it’s missing, leaving you looking ahead to what comes next.

The instinct to care and nurture doesn’t go anywhere.  For some, that need to keep looking after others remains strong, and finding a way to use it again can bring comfort.

You don’t need to have care home experience to consider this role, the attributes you need are already within you, built through years of caring for others.  You already have the instinct to care, the compassion, the patience, the want to look after someone.  With comprehensive, continuous training programmes, supported by a 12 week induction, you’ll have everything you need to feel confident in the role.

Personal Care – Part of your Role

Personal care is an essential part of being a Care Assistant, ensuring that those you support can maintain their dignity at all times. This includes helping with things like washing, dressing, bathroom visits and always respecting personal choices and preferences. For example, you might support someone in getting ready for the day by helping them dress and ensuring they feel comfortable and confident in the outfit they have chosen to wear. Or, for those living with a dementia, they may not always be able to communicate what they want to wear, so taking the time to understand their way of communicating, getting to know them, and recognising what helps them feel comfortable becomes a key part of the role. Their identity never leaves them -  it’s up to you, as a Care Assistant, to know and support that.
