Hatherleigh Nursing Home

Due to geographical restrictions, I am only able to visit my nan in person around once a year. However, as a family member who is unable to see her regularly, I have found Hatherleigh to be very accommodating in keeping me involved through telephone calls and by sending photographs of the various activities taking place within the home.

Nan is always happy when I speak with her and appears content with her surroundings and the care she receives. Our family members who live more locally visit regularly and have nothing but positive and kind words about Hatherleigh.

It is also straightforward to arrange days out with Nan when required. Overall, I am very comfortable with the level of communication and support provided by Hatherleigh and appreciate the efforts made to ensure that, despite the distance, I am still able to remain involved in Nan's life and wellbeing.

We have often referred to the staff at Hatherleigh as angels ,there is no doubt they certainly are. Thank you so much .

The home itself is presently nicely and staff friendly. Car parking is not so good for visiting. Sadly for, those being cared for with reasonable facilities, mobility etc. There seems to be little going on by way of activities, no trips out, just a little entertainment, no visiting choirs or groups and staff very busy with little time for personal activities. General care seems good, food excellent, just occasionally personal property can go missing.

5. My partner was allowed to sit in very wet pads after repeating to ask for help to the toilet this resulted in urine burns on his bottom and privates.

When I had to put my wife into a home I was not sure it was the right thing to do at this time. But a lady from the Hatherleigh Nursing Home visited me and reassured me how good it was. I decided to give it a go. For my wife, it is the best thing I could have done for her. She is happy and content in her little world. For me, it's hard to enjoy life now without her by my side. But I know she is looked after very well. The staff are her and my adopted family.

A wonderful caring and loving home. Dignity is maintained at all times for the residents. We were very lucky to find a place for our Father.

Food and drink is a difficult subject as the patients don't need 1000's of calories. Value for money is my biggest heartache of seeing so much money poured down the drain. I know we don't expect five-star eating, sleeping facilities but happy staff and patients are a must.

The care the resident is receiving is excellent. She looks cared for and loved. The staff are kind and considerate and good.

She loved having people around and her final years were happy - thank you for that to everyone at Hatherleigh.

Having no recent comparative, experience of care homes I have used 'neutral' choices. This review was completed prior to recent re-organisation, but held pending its completion, and has now been amended to reflect current opinions. The 'poor' mark for management reflects a continuing problem with the relay and/or recording of information within the home, which I have personal experience of. Plus the manner and timing of head office communications to the resident's Son which has caused him repeated trouble. I find the care and nursing staff standards good, but am aware that the numbers may not always be adequate. Regarding 'value for money' I have opted for satisfactory as I have no comparative data so wish to be neutral on this.

The home looks very clean, smart and inviting, staff are very caring, happy and attentive, welcoming to both family and service user.

I have been pleased with the way the home has made the client welcomed into this new situation. He has settled in well to the friendly situation. He likes some of the food better than others. A few of the activities he is beginning to get involved with. I'm impressed how the staff speak to him by name. He is not the easiest of character but has been quite happy when I visit him and he has no complaints.

Staff very pleasant and helpful. Patient seems well looked after.

The building is a fantastic complex and is kept in a lovely clean condition and the atmosphere is very happy and relaxed.

The staff have been very considerate and caring to me as it was difficult to let mother go after caring for her for five and a half years, but I know she is well cared for. It is great to have such a great home near my home so I can visit most days and spend quality time with her. Thank you. I would recommend Hatherleigh Nursing Home to anyone.
