Review of Catherine House Care Home from Eileen G (Cousin of Resident) published on 27 July 2026 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

Catherine House Care Home staff always make you welcome when you arrive and are always willing to help if you have anything to bring to your relatives rooms. All the activities are fun & enjoyable. The first time I visited the home was on January 24th 2025, with my Daughter. My counsins husband was admitted to Catherine House in April 2024. My cousin became a resident at Catherine House on April 9th 2026. At first it was upsetting for me to come and visit as she would get upset and asking me to take her home, I explained to her that she is now sitting beside her husband of which she had missed for the last two years.

Reply from Sherin Anup, Home Manager at Catherine House Care Home

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We know how emotional it can be when someone you love moves into a care home, and we're grateful you trusted us through that journey. It means so much to hear that you've always felt welcomed by our team and that your cousin and her husband have been able to be together again. Thank you for your kind words and continued support.

Review of Heanton Nursing Home from M W (Partner of Resident) published on 20 July 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
David had been resident in two care homes before he was resident at Heanton nursing home it was truly the best decision ever.
He was surrounded with respect, love, care and understanding about his complex dementia needs.
From the manageress, the clinical leads and all the carers at Heanton.
The patience when he was having a bad day, when he refused food and showers, they adopted the policy to leave him and go back later.
Above all they carried that care to all residents, husbands, wives, partners and all family members of residents who visited.
He was resident there from 2023 until he sadly passed in May 2026 and even then when we had a celebration of his life, the manageress Abi one of the clinical leads Marianna and a particular person Pam who was close to him came and supported me.

So thank you all for the support and care, you gave David and me xx

Review of Catherine House Care Home from Michael B (Father of Resident) published on 15 July 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My father has Alzheimer's and moving him into Catherine House was one of the hardest decisions our family has had to make. The care he receives has exceeded all our expectations. Every member of staff, the cleaners, caregivers, medical staff, catering staff and the management team, treat him with genuine kindness, compassion and respect. They have taken the time to understand not only his condition but also his background, personality, likes and dislikes, and they adapt their approach to suit his mood each day. There is an excellent range of activities and outings, with seasonal events and day trips that provide real mental stimulation and enjoyment. Since moving to Catherine House, both his physical and mental wellbeing have improved noticeably. It is clear that this is more than just a care home - it is a place where people are truly cared for, and we cannot thank the staff enough.

The staff are always friendly, chatty and very helpful and accommodating. Nothing is too much trouble. They are frequently checking up on the residents, they are always busy doing jobs but will willingly listen if you want to discuss anything. I thoroughly recommend this home and hope there is room for me when the time comes.

Overall Experience

Our dad was placed here post hospital and is now a full time resident. During this time we have learned about the overall care at Edenmore. I can honestly say we see him happy, settled and very well cared for. The staff are attentive with him and all residents and answer our questions. The food and tasty treats (mostly home made it seems) are always good. Thank you to the team.

Reply from Gayle Cooper, Home Manager at Edenmore Nursing Home

Thank you so much for your lovely words. It's wonderful to hear that your dad has settled in well and that you've been able to see him happy and comfortable with us.

My family member has been in Thistle Court for many years, where all the time there he has been cared for and treated with dignity at all times. There is always something going on at the home and every important day/date is always recognised. Not only are the corridors always cleaned and pictures in them but dads room is always immaculate. My husband was transferred to Catherine House February 2024 and died peacefully in June 2025. Very friendly environment. Staff are only too pleased to help. Residents are well cared for and happy. The residents are well cared for and encouraged to join in with activities if able. Visitors are free to come and go at any time they wish and stay as long as they want. I have always been offered drinks and always asked if I would like to stay for lunch, tea time, etc.

Overall Experience
My review can only be based on my feelings and expectations, which may be unrealistic. I have no knowledge or experience with other care homes for comparison. It's a complex environment, so nothing will be perfect or excellent, in my view. My wife, who is immobile and suffering from dementia of some kind

, is, I believe, better off in care than she would be at home. She says the food is good. I have not been there at meal times. When I visit they do bring her drinks and snacks. They also offer the same to me. The carers are good to her and friendly and helpful to me. But my wife says no. She speaks to her. She is partially deaf and cannot, sometimes, understand the accents. But she so quickly forgets. Value for money? I don't know. All care homes are expensive, based on my own financial perception.

Reply from Sherin Anup, Home Manager at Frome Nursing Home

Thank you for sharing your experience so openly, it's helpful to hear your perspective, and it's good to know your wife is being supported and that the small details, like food, drinks and how you're both welcomed, are making a difference day to day.

Review of Gibraltar Nursing Home from Mark O (Son of Resident) published on 10 March 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
My Mum has been resident in Gibraltar Nursing Home for over 18 months. She is immobile, suffering from arthritis in her legs, and also cognitively challenged, a condition which is slowly worsening as she slides into a world of her own imagination.
Her room at Gibraltar is very homely, and filled with a lot of her own familiar pictures, photos, including some of her furniture. The staff have made up a pictoral story-board of her life from family photos. Mum genuinely believes that she is living in her own house.

The staff at Gibraltar are excellent - very caring and dedicated. It is good to see that there is a very low turnover of staff, so most of the carers and nurses are very familiar to Mum. She has a genuine very good relatinship with many of the carers, inspite of making no sense whatesoever at times! Mum is happy in her room, but the staff will winch her out of bed and take her into the communal area to provide a bit more social stimulation.

Review of Catherine House Care Home from J V (Great-Nephew of Resident) published on 11 February 2026 Submitted via Website

I honestly can't praise this home enough. The staff have been absolutely amazing in the way they look after my great uncle, every single person is kind, attentive, and genuinely cares. The level of person-centred care is outstanding, they really take the time to understand each resident as an individual, and nothing ever feels like too much trouble.
The home itself is always spotlessly clean and welcoming, and the food is amazing. The activities go well above expectations, with so much thought and effort put into keeping everyone engaged, stimulated, and happy.

Knowing my great uncle is being cared for in such a supportive, respectful, and nurturing environment gives our family complete peace of mind. I would highly recommend this home to anyone looking for exceptional care.

Review of Heanton Nursing Home from Kelly W (Daughter-in-law of Resident) published on 20 January 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
My Mother-in-Law had early onset Alzheimer's and was diagnosed is 2020 at the age of 58. She had complex needs and she was physically very able but her mind was declining at a rapid rate. She went in to two other homes before we found Heanton. Neither had been suitable and I was losing hope that anyone could care for her as well as we could.
However I was wrong. Heanton was absolutely amazing for her. They understood her needs and although she had become immobile and non verbal she had lovely relationships with the staff. Small things made me so happy . They always spoke to her like she had her mind. They always explained what they were doing they knew what she liked and didn't like. They loved her. Its all you want for your family member when you have to entrust someone else with their care.
Now is the building lovely and modern - No! Does it need to be, do the residents care - No!

I wish I had found Heanton first. Thankyou to all the staff you are truly wonderful humans

My Dad has quite complex Dementia, and it is normally really hard for people to understand what he is saying, and to be able to connect with him emotionally so he feels safe, calm and understood. Heanton have been excellent from the day of his admission, and he just feels so safe there. When he lived at home he was always asking to "go home" and this would really distress him. Now he doesn't say this at all, and the team are just always able to find a way to connect with him, by encouraging him to be occupied with activities he likes doing around the house to have a sense of achieve, through to doll therapy where he has a focus for his love and affection. This was a very difficult decision from the families perspective, and we have been nothing but delighted and so reassured by our experience and the communication from the team. We cannot speak highly enough of how much his quality of life has improved.

Review of Frome Nursing Home from Debbie C (Daughter of Resident) published on 19 November 2025 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
Dad was a resident for three years and passed away recently. He was grumpy and sarcastic but with a twinkle in his eye, and the staff really got him. He made them laugh. And they really cared for him. This is not a frilly care home, but it is clean, caring, friendly and fun. The staff always treat the residents as family. I've seen and heard them and marvelled at their patience, skills and kindness. They do all the things we don't want to, and they do it with understanding, dignity and kindness.
The staff put on various entertainments and fun activities to keep everyone interested. It was delightful to see the staff celebrating Holi in the carpark! I couldn't help joining in. All festivals are marked with themed decorations going up. Every resident has a birthday cake made for them. And I loved that all the cupcakes for afternoon tea were beautifully decorated every day. Little touches like that really show how much effort the staff go to.

Thank you for looking after Dad.
