Gibraltar Nursing Home

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My Mum has been resident in Gibraltar Nursing Home for over 18 months. She is immobile, suffering from arthritis in her legs, and also cognitively challenged, a condition which is slowly worsening as she slides into a world of her own imagination.
Her room at Gibraltar is very homely, and filled with
a lot of her own familiar pictures, photos, including some of her furniture. The staff have made up a pictoral story-board of her life from family photos. Mum genuinely believes that she is living in her own house.
The staff at Gibraltar are excellent - very caring and dedicated. It is good to see that there is a very low turnover of staff, so most of the carers and nurses are very familiar to Mum. She has a genuine very good relatinship with many of the carers, inspite of making no sense whatesoever at times! Mum is happy in her room, but the staff will winch her out of bed and take her into the communal area to provide a bit more social stimulation.
Reply from Marketing Department, Marketing Department at Gibraltar Nursing HomeThank you for taking the time to share feedback about your mum's experience in our home . We are so pleased to hear that she feels so comfortable in her room surrounded by familiar belongings, and that the life story board has helped keep those important memories close to her. Your kind words about our team will mean a great deal to them. Building familiar, trusting relationships is very important to us, and it's lovely to know your mum has formed such positive connections with the people supporting her.
Thank you again for your review and for trusting us with your mum's care.

Catherine House Care Home

I honestly can't praise this home enough. The staff have been absolutely amazing in the way they look after my great uncle, every single person is kind, attentive, and genuinely cares. The level of person-centred care is outstanding, they really take the time to understand each resident as an individual,
and nothing ever feels like too much trouble.
The home itself is always spotlessly clean and welcoming, and the food is amazing. The activities go well above expectations, with so much thought and effort put into keeping everyone engaged, stimulated, and happy.
Knowing my great uncle is being cared for in such a supportive, respectful, and nurturing environment gives our family complete peace of mind. I would highly recommend this home to anyone looking for exceptional care.
Reply from Macey Ryan, Communications Team at Catherine House Care HomeThank you so much for your kind words. Although my wife has only been in Catherine House for just over 1 month, it is obvious that from the way that other occupants in the rooms are treated with
great care as well.

Heanton Nursing Home

from Kelly W (Daughter-in-law of Resident) published on 20 January 2026

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My Mother-in-Law had early onset Alzheimer's and was diagnosed is 2020 at the age of 58. She had complex needs and she was physically very able but her mind was declining at a rapid rate. She went in to two other homes before we found Heanton. Neither had been suitable and I was losing hope that anyone
could care for her as well as we could.
However I was wrong. Heanton was absolutely amazing for her. They understood her needs and although she had become immobile and non verbal she had lovely relationships with the staff. Small things made me so happy . They always spoke to her like she had her mind. They always explained what they were doing they knew what she liked and didn't like. They loved her. Its all you want for your family member when you have to entrust someone else with their care.
Now is the building lovely and modern - No! Does it need to be, do the residents care - No!
I wish I had found Heanton first. Thankyou to all the staff you are truly wonderful humans
Reply from Marketing Department, Marketing Department at Heanton Nursing HomeThank you for sharing this with us, and we are so sorry for your loss. Hearing your mother-in-law felt happy, loved and cared for here means the world to us. Our team will be incredibly touched by your words. Knowing that she was able to spend her final days feeling safe, understood and surrounded by kindness is exactly what we hope for every person who calls Heanton home.

Thank you for trusting us, and for letting us be part of her journey. She will be remembered with great fondness by the team.

My Dad has quite complex Dementia, and it is normally really hard for people to understand what he is saying, and to be able to connect with him emotionally so he feels safe, calm and understood. Heanton have been excellent from the day of his admission, and he just feels so safe there. When he lived
at home he was always asking to "go home" and this would really distress him. Now he doesn't say this at all, and the team are just always able to find a way to connect with him, by encouraging him to be occupied with activities he likes doing around the house to have a sense of achieve, through to doll therapy where he has a focus for his love and affection. This was a very difficult decision from the families perspective, and we have been nothing but delighted and so reassured by our experience and the communication from the team. We cannot speak highly enough of how much his quality of life has improved.
Reply from Rafaella Faccio, Marketing Department at Heanton Nursing HomeThank you so much for sharing this, it really means a lot. We know how hard the decision can be, and it's lovely to hear that your dad feels safe and settled. Seeing him connect through the things he enjoys and feel more at ease day-to-day is exactly what we hope for.

Dad was a resident for three years and passed away recently. He was grumpy and sarcastic but with a twinkle in his eye, and the staff really got him. He made them laugh. And they really cared for him. This is not a frilly care home, but it is clean, caring, friendly and fun. The staff always treat
the residents as family. I've seen and heard them and marvelled at their patience, skills and kindness. They do all the things we don't want to, and they do it with understanding, dignity and kindness.
The staff put on various entertainments and fun activities to keep everyone interested. It was delightful to see the staff celebrating Holi in the carpark! I couldn't help joining in. All festivals are marked with themed decorations going up. Every resident has a birthday cake made for them. And I loved that all the cupcakes for afternoon tea were beautifully decorated every day. Little touches like that really show how much effort the staff go to.
Thank you for looking after Dad.

Edenmore Nursing Home

Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My Mother was placed at Edenmore at the end of 2022 and has resided there ever since.
My first impression (like everyone else's) is that you're in a well secured building because every door is locked, by keypad lock. You only come to realise the reason for this when your own mother tries to go walk
abouts, thinking she is in a supermarket, hairdressers or visiting a spa.
Being that every resident here has some form of dementia you soon realise the staff all have patience like no one else. They are kind, softly spoken, respectful and as I've said before patient.
Much as I want my mum to have her independence (as does she sometimes) she is not in a position to look after herself, unfortunately this is the best place for her, with the very kind staff.
Basically if you or your relative/friend is suffering from dementia, I would recommend this residence.

My Aunt was cared for at Sundial Care Home for over three years. In all the time she was a resident she was cared for with such compassion and sensitivity by an amazing team of carers - full of fun and personality, and importantly - consistency. BUT it was the whole team that made her stay a home
from home: Leadership - involved, accessible and visible; Maintenance team - always hard at work improving the home and gardens; Domestic team - lovely home cooked food with plenty of variety and choice, & a spotlessly clean environment, clean clothes & bedding. Support team - organising a variety of events and activities to get involved in, or not. The finance team always responsive and helpful. It all made for a calm environment and me being confident that my Aunt's final years were comfortable and contented. This made me calm and confident.

My husband went to Sundial from hospital on the NHS 4 week route to home unable to walk and still quite ill after 7 weeks hospitalisation due to a hip replacement and hospital based infection. The care team have been incredible and have embraced my husband and myself in their family, guiding me through
the very sad decision not to allow him home. Broken in body, mind and spirit in the 12 weeks he with with the care team they breathed life back into him, brought the smile back to his eyes and, incredibly, as I was told he'd never walk again, had him walking with a frame. It was a very difficult decision to relocate him closer to home and my very grateful thanks and love go to the wonderful Sundial family. Miss you all.

Since early 2025 the two lifts in Gibraltar Nursing Home have not worked. This means my wife and myself on our weekly visits have to climb three flights of stairs to visit a resident. It also means staff have to manhandle everything up three flights of stairs. This clearly contravenes the Health and
Safety Act. Talking to staff they have no idea what is happening. A disgusting state of affairs.

Just over 5 years ago it was evident that Dad's care needs could no longer be met at home. Mum entrusted Dad to the fantastic manager and caring staff at Hatherleigh Nursing Home. This was the start of the final stage of Dad's life. At Hatherleigh Dad enjoyed himself immensely!
The ethos of the home
is that there are no patients or clients, everyone is a family member. This was perfect for Dad as he suddenly had a much-extended family to spend time with. The love and care given to Dad, and other family members, by the staff is truly amazing, and we cannot thank them enough.
Dad past peaceful away in the safe hands of Hatherleigh Care Home in March. The respect and compassion given to our family and of course Dad was outstanding.
We were so pleased that members of the team who attended Dad's funeral were able to walk in with us as part of Dad's, and our family.
We have often referred to the staff at Hatherleigh as angels ,there is no doubt they certainly are. Thank you so much .
