My Aunt was cared for at Sundial Care Home for over three years. In all the time she was a resident she was cared for with such compassion and sensitivity by an amazing team of carers - full of fun and personality, and importantly - consistency. BUT it was the whole team that made her stay a home
from home: Leadership - involved, accessible and visible; Maintenance team - always hard at work improving the home and gardens; Domestic team - lovely home cooked food with plenty of variety and choice, & a spotlessly clean environment, clean clothes & bedding. Support team - organising a variety of events and activities to get involved in, or not. The finance team always responsive and helpful. It all made for a calm environment and me being confident that my Aunt's final years were comfortable and contented. This made me calm and confident.

My father was discharged from hospital to Edenmore as he was deemed unsafe living independently. Since his arrival six weeks ago, he has received excellent end-of-life care. I have been impressed by every member of staff I have met, irrespective of their role in the team. They are polite, caring, helpful
and hard working.

My husband went to Sundial from hospital on the NHS 4 week route to home unable to walk and still quite ill after 7 weeks hospitalisation due to a hip replacement and hospital based infection. The care team have been incredible and have embraced my husband and myself in their family, guiding me through
the very sad decision not to allow him home. Broken in body, mind and spirit in the 12 weeks he with with the care team they breathed life back into him, brought the smile back to his eyes and, incredibly, as I was told he'd never walk again, had him walking with a frame. It was a very difficult decision to relocate him closer to home and my very grateful thanks and love go to the wonderful Sundial family. Miss you all.

Since moving to Heanton Nursing Home, my father has been settled and happy. An individual and holistic care plan has ensured his care is personalised. Staff throughout the home are caring, patient and intuitive to dads' needs. There is a happy atmosphere, lots of laughter, empathy and a feeling of family.
Activities are encouraged, a lovely garden with a stunning view. The food is excellent and individualised if needed.

Just over 5 years ago it was evident that Dad's care needs could no longer be met at home. Mum entrusted Dad to the fantastic manager and caring staff at Hatherleigh Nursing Home. This was the start of the final stage of Dad's life. At Hatherleigh Dad enjoyed himself immensely!
The ethos of the home
is that there are no patients or clients, everyone is a family member. This was perfect for Dad as he suddenly had a much-extended family to spend time with. The love and care given to Dad, and other family members, by the staff is truly amazing, and we cannot thank them enough.
Dad past peaceful away in the safe hands of Hatherleigh Care Home in March. The respect and compassion given to our family and of course Dad was outstanding.
We were so pleased that members of the team who attended Dad's funeral were able to walk in with us as part of Dad's, and our family.
We have often referred to the staff at Hatherleigh as angels ,there is no doubt they certainly are. Thank you so much .
Reply from Macey Ryan, Communications at Hatherleigh Nursing Home

Thank you so much for your heartfelt words. It means a lot to us to hear that your dad felt safe, happy and content with us. Knowing that we were able to provide him with comfort, care, and a sense of home during his time here is what we strive for every day. Please know that it was an absolute privilege to care for your dad, and that he will always be a part of Hatherleigh.

The home itself is presently nicely and staff friendly. Car parking is not so good for visiting. Sadly for, those being cared for with reasonable facilities, mobility etc. There seems to be little going on by way of activities, no trips out, just a little entertainment, no visiting choirs or groups
and staff very busy with little time for personal activities. General care seems good, food excellent, just occasionally personal property can go missing.

Normally I loath writing a review about any service or product as I am a firm believer in one persons meat is another persons poison, and what I see as good maybe bad for another. However, in this instance I am breaking the long standing rule I have had. If ever there was an example of never judge a
book by its cover then Heanton Nursing Home is it. Although, the building and facilities look tired and worn the nursing care for the residents, as far as I have witnessed it, is beyond reproach. I have seen with my own eyes the whole team demonstrate a level of care, nursing, professionalism, patience and restraint that an angel would be proud of. Peeling wall paper, chipped paint and knocked around doors, in my mind, do not matter - the doors lock where they need to lock, and the chipped doors are no worse than in my home after the grandchildren have left. If my mother and father were alive today and needed a nursing home I would select Heanton without hesitation.

Heanton was the only option.
For quite a while there was no check-in in operation. Was a screen (COVID), then nothing - now a paper system.
No introductory 'sales pitch'. We have (partly) established who is what in the 'pecking order'.
Good staff generally, who keep me informed re falls and UTI's
etc. Hospital noted lack of cleanliness for a recent hip op (social services aware).
Previous room smelly, current room much better. No idea about activities or value for money.

My father was placed at Edenmore in 2022 after his dementia meant that he could no longer safely stay in his own home. I was apprehensive at first but any concerns I had were quickly dispelled. The staff were friendly and welcoming, showing us around the home and making sure he was settled before I
left.
Throughout his time there, he was well looked after and treated with dignity and respect, and he was happy in his surroundings. Residents were considered to be family members and looked after in that manner. A wide range of activities were arranged to entertain and keep residents engaged (including, on one visit, a "Mad Hatter's Tea Party" where staff dressed as characters from "Alice in Wonderland" which was a sight to behold!), and they would regularly share photographs and updates with us. If there were any concerns they would call me immediately to let me know. The staff and manager at Edenmore are second to none and I am glad my father was so well looked after during his final years.

My wife has been a resident at Heanton Nursing Home for some time now, she requires both physical and mental care. The care is provided expertly by the staff at Heanton. They are very good at what they do, my wife can be quite volatile, screaming and angry one minute, to be happy and bubbly the next,
the staff all take this in their stride.

My wife needs emotional and medical care and Heanton provides both these through their very competent carers and their expert nursing team, plus doctors are available when required. After visiting my wife, I go home feeling happy that she is well looked after by all the staff. If I have any queries, the staff, be it the carers, nursing or management are all available to listen to you and offer support.

The internal decor of the home is quite tired and needs a good bit of refurbishment, but the home is on lovely grounds with views overlooking North Devon, the staff are reliable and are like family friends.

I did not chose Edenmore, my husband was placed here by NHS for a four week period, but I don't think I could have chosen anywhere better. All staff members are very friendly, helpful and aware of all resident and their needs. I feel very much part of a large family and my husband is very happy and

I booked my mother with Dementia in for one week for respite costing £1600 plus £75 for paperwork. I was hoping that in her time there she would be quite active as she normally lives alone. The entrance had a long ramp for her to walk up with assistance from my husband and her stick past a skip. We
were shown to the communal kitchen and she sat down with a cup of tea and we left her chatting away. She was aware of her surroundings. On Monday and Friday, I called and was told she was doing well and settling in quite well. We came to pick her up the following Sunday. She was supposed to be ready to leave. We were taken to 2nd floor and she was in the hall slumped in a chair and quite confused and not wearing her own clothes. After looking around the home for her coat and wash back we went home. It would appear she has had little interaction and seems to have lost basic skills that she definitely had before she went in. Her normal carers are quite distressed by it. Wouldn't go back.

My 84-year-old father was depressed and stuck in his room, so a respite was recommended by his social worker. We managed to get him into Edenmore Nursing Home for 4 weeks when he arrived there he had a chest infection and was not eating very much. The staff at Edenmore welcomed him as a family member
and within days he was feeling much better, we decided to extend the rest bite for another 4 weeks as it became clear my dad was a lot happier. As a result of great care and attention from all the staff Dad as from the 1st of May, he will be a permanent resident of Edenmore. As a family we are so grateful to the manager and all her staff, they have been absolutely brilliant. would highly recommend this nursing home.
So a very big thank you for getting my dad smiling and laughing again, it is such a relief to be reassured that he is in very good hands.
Thank you with all our hearts.

My mum has been at the well-managed Sundial for a year now and we have no regrets about such a difficult and crucial decision. She is happy and content and the carers go to great lengths to show their compassion. They also make me so welcome when I visit Mum, usually daily and we both feel we are part
of a loving family. It’s great to see lots of improvements and a new minibus to take the residents out. Mum went out on a trip to a garden centre last week and enjoyed the well-organised outing. Thank you to all the carers for being amazing.
