Frome Nursing Home provided a very caring environment for my mother, who had dementia. They worked hard to understand my mother, to make her happy and give her dignity. She always looked very well turned out.

Very friendly environment. Staff are only too pleased to help. Residents are well cared for and happy. The residents are well cared for and encouraged to join in with activities if able. Visitors are free to come and go at any time they wish and stay as long as they want. I have always been offered drinks and always asked if I would like to stay for lunch, tea time, etc.

Reply from Sherin Anup, Home Manager at Frome Nursing Home

Thank you for taking the time to share this, it's reassuring to hear how welcomed you felt and how everyday life, from joining in to simply sitting down for a cup of tea, continues in a way that feels natural and unhurried.

My review can only be based on my feelings and expectations, which may be unrealistic. I have no knowledge or experience with other care homes for comparison. It's a complex environment, so nothing will be perfect or excellent, in my view. My wife, who is immobile and suffering from dementia of some kind

, is, I believe, better off in care than she would be at home. She says the food is good. I have not been there at meal times. When I visit they do bring her drinks and snacks. They also offer the same to me. The carers are good to her and friendly and helpful to me. But my wife says no. She speaks to her. She is partially deaf and cannot, sometimes, understand the accents. But she so quickly forgets. Value for money? I don't know. All care homes are expensive, based on my own financial perception.

Reply from Sherin Anup, Home Manager at Frome Nursing Home

Thank you for sharing your experience so openly, it's helpful to hear your perspective, and it's good to know your wife is being supported and that the small details, like food, drinks and how you're both welcomed, are making a difference day to day.

Overall Experience
Dad was a resident for three years and passed away recently. He was grumpy and sarcastic but with a twinkle in his eye, and the staff really got him. He made them laugh. And they really cared for him. This is not a frilly care home, but it is clean, caring, friendly and fun. The staff always treat the residents as family. I've seen and heard them and marvelled at their patience, skills and kindness. They do all the things we don't want to, and they do it with understanding, dignity and kindness.
The staff put on various entertainments and fun activities to keep everyone interested. It was delightful to see the staff celebrating Holi in the carpark! I couldn't help joining in. All festivals are marked with themed decorations going up. Every resident has a birthday cake made for them. And I loved that all the cupcakes for afternoon tea were beautifully decorated every day. Little touches like that really show how much effort the staff go to.

Thank you for looking after Dad.

My sister been here 2 years and in the two years a lot has been achieved with her. The staff attempted well with her conditions such as Down syndrome. We all had a learning experience with myself with dementia and staff with my sister having Down syndrome and I'm happy to say the right choice was made for my sister to come here because even know mistakes have happened both sides they have been felt with quickly and has put my sister best interest first. She has come from knocking on deaths doors and is now a happy bubbly person as she always was, and that's thanks to the staff. Determination to make sure she was well monitored and looked after.

My dad was very well cared for at the nursing home. The staff were very kind, helpful, thoughtful and very loving towards my dad. He was a bit of a character, was cheeky, mischievous and had a lot of fun with the staff. They make sure that the residents eat well, have things to do if they want to and have entertainment put on by others.

My mum has been a resident for the last 6 months. I was very anxious and upset about her moving in as I’d had no experience with care homes but the staff have always been so kind to mum and me that I’m sure it’s made the whole experience more bearable. Thank you all for your care and kindness.

My father was discharged from the hospital to Frome Nursing Home in July 2021 having spent fifteen weeks in hospital. The care provided by Frome Nursing Home was poor and as a result, my father had to be removed from the home and has subsequently been hospitalised again. My father was in Woodlands despite having Advanced Alzheimer's Dementia and this side of the home is only nursing. He spent long periods alone and that took a huge toll on his well-being. Whilst a couple of the carers were very good and my father built a reasonable rapport with them, Woodlands was not the right place for him and the staff did not have the experience to work with him. No activities are offered in that building and many of the residents are mobile and can move around and have an opportunity to interact with other residents. My father has suffered from loneliness, issues with his personal cleanliness, lack of empathy, and a good understanding of his needs. The impact of this on his well-being cannot be changed.

When I first visited my friend at the care home that she was placed in I was very impressed. The staff don't wear uniforms which I found a little confusing if I needed help (do you know where the hearing aid is?). I see that it makes the home a really friendly place. My parents were in a care home, but not as nice as this one. There was often a smell of urine, but not here. The food looks good, large trays of sponge cake, it all looks good. I believe the chef here wins awards - deservedly so. The staff are so friendly.

Generally, I am happy with the care home, although the standards can vary greatly from day to day.
All staff are polite and keen to help although there sometimes is a lack of man-management.
I like the laid back feel in the home.

I feel more regular feedback to relatives would be useful.

I have been visiting a very close friend who lives at Frome Nursing Home for over a year. It is an amazing place. They care for residents better than your own family would. In fact, they call people living there family members and I often heard one of the young pretty care workers refer to my friend as “granddad”.

The staff don’t wear uniforms which makes it feel much more like home and not a hospital or institution. Nothing is too much bother for them and they have such a kind happy face every day.

The food is excellent and I am often treated to a meal when I visit that I would happily pay for at any restaurant.

The manager is really friendly and makes everyone welcome.

I cannot recommend the home enough! My only complaint is that the chef should make the slices of chocolate cake slightly smaller as my waistline has definitely expanded since visiting!

My aunt has been at this home for a couple of months now and the care and support she has received has been exemplary! My family and I have had experience of other nursing homes before, and this one is truly different. The care staff at Frome Nursing Home have taken the time to genuinely get to know my aunt, so that they can make every single day happy and fulfilling for her - she has just blossomed since moving in! They have decorated her room just to her taste, they make sure they always have food that she will enjoy, as well as fun things going on that she can join in with; it's wonderful, warm home and I would highly recommend if you're looking for a nursing home in Somerset! I hope that my thoughts will help others choosing a nursing home for their loved ones, as I know what a difficult decision it can be - you will be in safe hands here!

My mother is 92 and has dementia, she has lived at Frome Nursing Home since June 2017. I can't fault the accommodation or the care, all the staff are unfailingly cheerful, friendly and welcoming. Mum is treated with warmth and respect and a lot of thought is given to making sure her individual needs are catered for. I'm kept informed or consulted as necessary on any decisions without being overwhelmed with detail. Everyone has been very kind and supportive to me and ready to listen to any concerns or questions I might have. I'd recommend the home without hesitation.
