About the role:
The Management Accountant at Athena Care Homes plays a key role
in supporting the financial performance and continued growth of the business.
Reporting to the Financial Planning & Analysis Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for delivering accurate financial reporting, analysis, budgeting, and reconciliations while supporting month-end processes, cash flow management, and operational decision-making across the care home portfolio. The role will help ensure strong financial controls, provide valuable commercial insight, and contribute to the delivery of high-quality care through effective financial management.
Salary:
Circa £35,000 per annum, depending on experience.
Shift Pattern:
37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.
Location:
Central Office, Russel House, Basildon, Essex, SS15 6TF. This
role is fully office-based.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
- Prepare accurate monthly financial reports, reconciliations, and support month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Monitor and analyse the financial performance of our care homes, providing variance analysis and commercial insight to support decision-making.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial planning activities across the business.
- Maintain accurate financial records and ensure effective financial controls, compliance, and reporting processes are in place.
Training, Skills & Experience Required:
- Previous experience in a Management Accountant or similar finance role, progressing towards AAT, ACCA, or CIMA qualifications desirable.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, budgeting, and financial analysis.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience using financial and payroll systems; Sage50 experience is advantageous.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to manage deadlines and present financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
- Collaborative and adaptable approach, with healthcare or care home sector experience.
