Job summary

Make a real difference to the lives of our residents

St Mary’s Nursing Home is seeking friendly, compassionate volunteers to support our Activities Team in delivering meaningful, engaging and enjoyable activities for the people who live with us. This is a rewarding opportunity to contribute to the wellbeing, confidence and social connection of our residents.

About the role

As a Volunteer Activities Assistant, you will work alongside our dedicated Activities Coordinators and care staff to help deliver a varied programme of activities. This may include:

  • Supporting group sessions such as arts and crafts, music, reminiscence, quizzes and games

  • Encouraging residents to take part and helping them feel included

  • Assisting with one?to?one activities for residents who may benefit from individual engagement

  • Helping to set up and tidy away activity materials

  • Providing companionship, conversation and social interaction

  • Supporting special events, celebrations and themed days within the home

You do not need previous experience in care or activities — just enthusiasm, reliability and a genuine desire to brighten someone’s day.

What we’re looking for

  • Warm, patient and approachable individuals

  • Good communication skills

  • Ability to work as part of a team

  • Respect for confidentiality and dignity

  • Willingness to follow guidance from staff

  • A positive attitude and a sense of fun

All volunteers will receive an induction, ongoing support, and any necessary training. Enhanced DBS checks will be arranged and funded by the organisation.

What you’ll gain

  • The satisfaction of making a meaningful difference

  • Experience in a care and support environment

  • Opportunities to develop confidence, communication and interpersonal skills

  • Being part of a friendly, supportive team

  • A chance to build relationships with our residents and contribute to their quality of life
