Job summary

Job Overview: (Note - In addition to these functions, employees are required to carry out such duties as may reasonably be required)

·  To assist in the preparation of meals and snacks under the direction of the Chef.

·  To serve and deliver meals to residents.

·  To undertake dishwashing, pot-washing and cleaning of kitchen and pantry areas.

·  To complete relevant documentation, such as daily cleaning schedules.

·  To work as part of a team to deliver all meals and snacks to residents.

Responsibilities and Duties of the Job

Role-specific Duties:

The Kitchen Assistant’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

·  Under the supervision of the Chef, assisting in identifying items to be ordered from specified suppliers to ensure sufficient supplies to maintain the catering operation

·  Ensuring required equipment is used with care, in accordance with suppliers’ instructions and training

·  Ensuring all required equipment is in good working order and, where a fault is identified, reporting the issue and withdrawing the equipment from further use immediately

·  Preparing food items under the guidance and instructions of the Chef

·  Supporting the delivery and serving of food, if required

·  Undertaking dishwashing, pot-washing and cleaning of the kitchen and pantry areas

·  Understanding the specific diets identified as required by residents, and share any dietary concerns with the Chef

·  Taking responsibility for understanding health and safety requirements

·  Being clean, hygienic and well presented at all times

·  Reporting any incidents or accidents to the Chef, and making an appropriate record

·  Promoting and protecting the welfare of residents at all times

Working with Others:

·  Assisting in the induction of new starters to the kitchen team

·  Developing effective working relationships with other employees within the home

·  Working cooperatively with the Chef and proactively identifying duties that need to be completed

·  Liaising effectively with care staff to understand the specific dietary needs of individual residents

·  Being polite and respectful in all communications with staff, residents or external visitors.

Personal and Professional Development:

·  Completing mandatory training and any other training, as directed by the Home Manager

·  Taking responsibility for your own professional development through performance and development reviews, including undertaking any relevant training

·  Understanding the health and safety requirements of the role

·  Understanding and following any relevant risk assessments

·  Seeking opportunities for personal and professional growth

Skills / Qualifications:

  • Previous kitchen experience is desirable. Experience working in a care home kitchen would be an advantage but is not essential
  • as full training will be provided.
